Work Text:
Lucy smiles at Tim.
She does it often, of course-most times without realizing it- but she loves how it softens him.
She knew he had a rough day, a missing child that became a homicide investigation, then a robbery with a fellow officer involved. But, as she smiled, his shoulders softened, his jaw unclenching.
"God, I love you, Luce." He signed, pulling her into a hug.
He pressed a small kiss to her hair as he stood up, "Babe, I'm so sorry to do this," Lucy prepared for the worst as he sucked in a breath, "I have to use the bathroom."
She giggled, her cheeks flushing slightly, "Go! Go, I'll order more to drink."
He nodded as he walked away, and she spun back to face the bartender, "Could you just refill these again?"
The bartender nodded as she set down a cup she was wiping.
She walked away with the cups, just as another bartender walked over.
He set a drink in front of her, it hitting the counter with a soft clink.
"The man at the other side of the bar bought this for you."
Lucy's mind flipped to the day back in December- just for a split second.
She shook her head, "No thanks. The only man buying me drinks tonight is my husband- who is currently in the restroom. "
"You sure?" The Bartender raised an eyebrow, " Seems like he knows-or knew you before."
Lucy shrugs her shoulders, "If he has something important that he wants to say, he can come to me and not be a creep."
The Bartender nodded as the original walked back over to her, shooting a look at the other bartender.
He picked up the drink, walking away.
-
It didn't take long for someone to sit down next to her.
He smelled of cigarettes and whiskey, exactly how Chris would.
"What do you want?"
"You're hot." He grins.
"You're not." She deadpans, taking a shot of her tequila.
She's never been a whiskey girl- even though it is one of Tim's favorites- and she never will be.
"You look like my ex." He smiles, staring at Lucy.
She looks over at him, catching a glimpse of him.
Chris.
"Well, shit." She mumbles, wishing the tequila was stronger.
Chris's eyes open wide, "Wait, you... are my ex."
"What do you want, Chris?" She snaps.
"To try us- again."
Lucy locked eyes with Tim across the bar, who currently looks like he wants to murder someone- or well, Chris.
"No." She sighs, as Tim storms over.
She grabs his arm, half to calm him down, and half to ground herself, "I found someone else, and we got married. End of story, now fuck off."
Chris drunken smile drops, "I knew it."
Tim opens his mouth to scream at Chris- for everything he did to Lucy- but Lucy stops him with a single tap of her finger.
"You did cheat on me." Chris grumbled, "You bitch. I car-"
"No, Chris, I broke up with you before getting with him." Lucy deadpans, "Don't even try to say that you cared for me. You cheated on me three times. Three! I deserved someone else- so I dropped your deadbeat ass."
Chris groans, "Lucy, I never cheated on you! You act like I was abusive or something."
"What about the three girls I found in my bed?" Lucy choked, "And you did abuse me. Emotionally and physically, I have literal scars to prove it."
Chris laughs, "Yeah, right."
Lucy's face darkens, "You don't get to laugh at what you did to me, you bastard."
"If you don't leave us alone, we will have to arrest you." Tim grumbles, locking eyes with Chris.
Chris scowls but stands up- walking back to his seat.
Before he sat down, he turned back to them.
"I knew you were a bitch- I just didn't know how stupid you could be. He's going to leave you like everyone else did- and you'll come running back to me."
Tim already was far enough away from her- although it was only a second- but didn't hear what he said.
He turns away, and Lucy turns her eyes to the floor, not allowing herself to cry.
Not yet.
Tim rubs her back softly, "Hey, let's go somewhere he isn't."
Lucy nods, her face blank.
She walks putting a 50 on the bar counter.
They walk out- together.
-
They walk to their car in silence.
Lucy would normally talk the whole way- but she was just... quiet.
She didn't look up at Tim with her normal smile each time he would crack a joke. She would just laugh emptily, keeping her main attention to the ground.
They hop into the car, keeping the uncomfortable silence between.
Tim didn't start the car- and Lucy didn't notice, she just stared ahead.
"Luce?"
She stares at him; her eyes already filled with tears.
"Oh, Luce..."
She breaks, sobs filling the room.
"I... I've done so much to get him out of my head..." She chokes, "and he just f-finds a way to come back in!"
Tim steps out of the car and rushes over to the passenger side.
He pulls her into a hug, letting her sob into his shoulder.
"Hey, I've got you... I've got you." He coos, lowering her down as her knees give out.
"But do you?" She chokes out between sobs, looking up from where her head once laid- and now locking eyes with Tim.
Tim stares at her, confused, "Of course I do, Luce, what do you mean?"
She drops her eyes back to the ground.
"If he told you anything that is about us, it's a lie." Tim reassures her, "I love you, and I always will."
"And I know that... it's just-"
"Luce, you don't have to explain it, I understand."
He pulls her back into a hug, letting her breathing settle before he helped her back into the car.
Pressing a kiss to her temple as he starts the car.
"Our normal spot?" He asks, pulling slightly out of the parking lot.
"Yeah," She smiled softly, letting the weight of everything go.
