Chapter Text
Lucy wished this day would just end.
It was just dumb mistake after dumb mistake from the other officers. Then, there was the domestic gone wrong- and she ended up having to call it in as a homicide.
Tim somehow had the day off, which also placed her with even more problems on her plate.
She heard someone walk over, but she just kept staring at her paperwork.
"Lucy..." Angela's familiar sounding voice felt like a soft blanket of comfort, "You have to go home. Your shift ended almost an hour ago, and your boyfriend won't stop bugging me to ask where you are."
Lucy frowns as she stared at Angela, "I can't, or at least not yet," she motioned toward the paper with her hands, "I still have to finish all of-"
Angela cuts her off, "No, Lucy, you are getting changed and going home. Paperwork can wait 'til tomorrow."
Lucy sighs not in the mood the argue with Angela.
"Fine." Lucy grumbles harshly, putting her pen down and closing the file.
Angela shoots her a look of sorry, turning away before Lucy knew Angela looked back.
She puts the files away with shaking hands, her eyes becoming more and more glassy.
She wiped at her eyes as she walked toward the locker room.
She couldn't cry- or at least not yet.
-
The door slamming pulls Tim out of his thoughts.
"Lucy, is that you?" His voice flooding concern.
She nods as she walks straight past him.
No kiss, no hug- just blank, empty eyes and silence.
He grabs her wrist lightly.
She flinches.
He immediately softens and pulls her closer to him.
"Lucy, baby, what happened?"
She doesn't respond-nor look him in the eye.
She rips her arm and walks out of Tim's reach, "I'm tired, Tim. Good night."
She walks out of the room- leaving Tim in the living room.
He knew that trying to help- would just end up with him sleeping on the couch.
All that he could do was sink into the couch.
-
Tim stares into the empty space in front of him.
Then he hears a small noise from their bed.
Like someone was trying to cry quietly.
"Luce?" He calls out but earns nothing back in return.
He opens the door, finding her up on the bed.
He sits down onto the bed, pulling her closer to him.
"Baby, what's wrong?"
She looks up- her eyes watery and tears running down her cheek slowly.
She chokes out a sob, before she realizes it.
"It's just..." Her voice breaks as she pauses, "everything that could have gone wrong, did."
Tim rubs her back, "It's not your fa-"
"Except it was." She sighs, "Webb lost cruical evidence, twice, and then there was the domestic..."
Lucy broke.
Her shoulders shake violently as she sobs- and Tim holds her.
"I've got you, Luce." He coos, "I've got you. Just breath with me."
Her breathing matches his, her sobs coming slower than before.
"Baby, you're okay." He whispers, "I've got you."
She wipes the last of her tears away, pulling away slightly, "How do you do that?"
He smiles slightly, "Do what?"
"Whatever you just did," Lucy waves her hands in the air lightly, "Calm me down that fast and..."
Her voice trails off, and she turns her eyes away from Tim, "Nevermind."
His hand finds hers, and he squeezes it, "And what, Lucy?"
She pulls her hand back, slowly getting off of the bed, "Nothing, Tim."
She grabs clothes from her dresser and walks into the bathroom.
He just stares at the door as she shuts it.
-
She sits on their bathroom floor, her chin resting on her knees.
How could he love her?
She was so many things wrong, and he still loved her.
How?
A knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts.
"Lucy, can I come in?" Tim asks softly.
She stares at the door, responding quietly, "Mhm."
He notices her on the floor, curled up.
"Figured you weren't showering."
He sits down next to her, wrapping his arm around her.
She stiffens at the contact, so he pulls away.
"Luce, are you sure your okay?" He asks, "I know your day wasn't the best, but this isn't like you."
She stares at the floor.
"I'm fine, Tim." She says quietly, "It was just a long day."
He stays quiet next to her, looking at her with worry written throughout his eyes.
She stands up, as does he. She tries to leave, but he grabs her wrist lightly.
"What is the answer your looking for, Tim?" She snaps, ripping her hand away from him, "I clearly don't have it."
He opens his mouth, but she stomps out of the room before he can say anything.
She grabs a bag and stuffs her necessities in it, and clothes for the next day.
"Lucy, where are you going?" Tim asks, following her practically out of the door like a lovesick puppy.
"Anywhere but here for the night, or that is until you actually..."
She cuts herself off, her boots thumping across the pavement to her car.
"Lucy, wait!" He calls out, but she slams her car door before he can say anything.
She pulls out of the driveway, not looking back.
