Tim Bradford always had worried about becoming his father during childhood.
Now, since his dad had passed, and he fell in love with Lucy, that worry disappeared. Not completely, but mostly.
But then, Tim's Mother, Joy, had come back into the picture.
After years of no contact, and the never ending memories of his childhood, she wants to come back.
Lucy, like always, lets her in, earning a front row seat for the coming weeks, and a starring role.
Tim had more panic attacks, was more quiet than normal, and had been avoiding both Lucy and his mother.
Joy acted her part as the concerned mother, but knew the real truth to why Tim was spiraling.

That’s what his tired brain notes first: two gunshots in rapid succession.
And then: handgun, not close.
It’s automatic, and he can’t help it: two gunshots, handgun, not close.
And then: silence, a pause, like the world is holding its breath—an unsettling stillness that magnifies every other sound: the hissing pipes, dripping water, and his heartbeat, a fast staccato, thud-thud-thud.
Tim sucks in a breath—but it refuses to make it all the way into his lungs. Thud-thud-thud, his heart straining against his aching ribs. He wants to tell himself not to jump to conclusions, and that this doesn’t necessarily mean anything:
