Summary
Sokka, Tactical Ambassador to the Fire Nation, is the ultimate strategist who knows he doesn't belong in his element anymore. As adept as he is with troops and maps and trade, he's lost in his incompetence as a non-bender surrounded by Fire Nation warriors. He keeps his burgeoning feelings for the Fire Lord behind an invulnerable barrier of wit and professionalism, sure that the "chasm" between him and the Fire Lord can never be crossed. With the pressures of the crown and the enormity of post-war reconstruction weighing heavily upon him, Zuko sees in Sokka the one anchor that holds firm beneath the surface of all that uncertainty. He depends upon Sokka's genius to highlight his failings, but his self-doubts keep pulling back at the same moment they move toward him. It takes an honest confession for their unspoken desires to break through, but when they do, they must face the barriers that have grown between them. In "Master of the Fire," they discover each other's hearts and come together as equals to prove that true mastery comes from a partnership between fire and ice.
