Yin and Yang

Work Text:

“We fit each other. See?” Wifies traced the grooves of the yin-yang. “There’s a bit of you in me, and there’s a bit of me in you. You and me, we fit each other.”
There’s a bit of you in me, and there’s a bit of me in you."

Like Parrot’s blue-green feather hanging from Wifies’ ear, like the Wifies’ yin-yang on Parrot’s cloak. He couldn’t bear to take it off, not even after so much had happened between them.
Not even now, after so much had happened between them and it had become clear that Wifies hadn’t fit him, not ever. And if there was a bit of Parrot in Wifies, it hadn’t been enough to stop him from making Paragon, from blackmailing his friends, from imprisoning Parrot.
Still, he wonders some days if they’re more alike than he thinks.
If, one day, he might resort to the same methods Wifies did, Lettuce did, Ashswagg did. If all he is just another ruler who started off with good intentions but lost his path somewhere along the way, engulfed by the corruption of power.
Someone’s tapping his shoulder, and he turns to glance at them. It’s Theo, good old Theo with his claims of being the biggest bird and wearing that shiny cheap necklace.
“Hey,” Theo says. “Whatcha thinking about?”
And his ideas of corruption are so ridiculous Parrot could almost scoff at himself. How could that happen, with Theo here? Reliable, steadfast Theo, who would never betray him. There would always be a way back - and even if Parrot had to grope around blindly in the darkness to find that way, at least there would be a friend by his side.
