Chapter 1: Planning

Summary:

Angela plans for her first Mother's Day with Amanda

Notes:

Also, please God don't read this Smosh. This is purely poorly written fiction based on real people. Nothing I write is a fact, it's just based off their Internet personas

Chapter Text

Angela looks over her calendar as she double checks her availability for an improv show.

As she scans through the dates she freezes, her heart stopping for a moment as she stares at the second Sunday of May.

Mother's Day

Usually she'd send something to her mom, maybe have brunch with her and her brother.

But this year she doesn't have her mom, this year she has Amanda, her mama.

The holiday has always been something rigid and forced, her mom demanding a perfect day with her perfect kids and perfect presents.

So when she tries to think of what to do for Amanda, her mind is empty. Nothing is good enough for someone as incredible as her.

She sits brainstorming for a while longer before an idea pops into her head. Angela quickly searches for his contact and calls him.

“What's up Ang?” Trevor asks as a greeting, “We like just left work.”

“What do you do for Raven on Mother's Day?” she asks without preamble, “I've never really done it before.”

He hums as he thinks, “Usually I'll make some kind of card or picture with Josh at work.” he begins to explain.

“Then on the actual day I let her sleep in and give her the card, maybe with something else I bought beforehand,” he continues, "I try to make sure ahead of time that the meals of the day are set so she doesn't have to cook and then I’m on my best behavior all day, trying to be extra cute if I can.”

“All Amanda will want is to spend the day with you,” he assures her, “You don't have to do anything big, that's what Raven always says.”

“But I want to,” she murmurs, “She deserves it.”

Trevor hums again, “Then I guess we've got work to do,” he tells her, “We can enlist Arasha to help, she's great at surprises.”

“We?” Angela asks confused, “I just needed advice, you don't have to help me.”

He chuckles, “We're family Ang, of course I'm gonna help you.”

It takes a bit of coordination, but about a week before Mother's Day, Angie and Trev sit in the little corner at work with Arasha to make their cards.

“Thanks you helpin’ me!” Angela says excitedly as she looks over the table at all the supplies.

“I love helpin’” Trevor chirps, “Usually I do this with Josh, but I'm not goin’ to Mythical soon so he gave me this last month.” he explains, pointing at a sticker book full of flowers.

Arasha smiles at the two littles, “So we're making cards?” she clarifies, placing a stack of construction paper on the table.

Trevor nods, reaching forward to grab a few different colored pages, “Always make a card and sometimes if I have more time Josh would help me make something else, like once we made a orgami raven, but that was really hard and Josh did most of it.” he rambles, looking over at an overwhelmed Angela, “Need help?” he asks softly.

She shakes her head, reaching forward to grab a purple piece of paper, “Can do it.” she mumbles confidently.

The two littles move their focus to their cards, Trevor rambling to Arasha while Angela works in silence.

“What're you doing Rash?” Trevor asks curiously as she begins folding a pink piece of paper.

“I liked your origami story with Josh so I looked for an easy looking flower,” she tells him, placing her phone down so he can see the tutorial, “Thought I'd try before offering to help you two.”

“Cool!” he says excitedly before returning his focus to his own card, the trio working in a surprising quiet.

Angela looks over at Arasha nervously before looking back down at her card. She looks up again and accidentally makes eye contact with her, letting out a small squeak in surprise.

“Do you need help honey?” Arasha asks gently, placing her third flower on the table, “I'm happy to help you.”

The little nods hesitantly, looking back down at her card, “Can't spell good,” she mumbles, her eyes flicking between the other two searching for disapproval.

“Spelling is hard,” Trevor cuts in before Arasha can answer, “Mommy says it doesn't matter if I spell wrong, but sometimes I ask for help anyway.”

Arasha nods along with him, “I'm sure your mama won't care if there's words spelled wrong, but I'm happy to help you spell.” she confirms, glancing down at the half finished card, “This looks beautiful, Angie.”

She blushes lightly, gripping the crayon tightly in her hand. “Can do it.” she whispers to herself, her face shifting from anxious to determined.

Angela lowers the crayon to the paper and begins to add the writing to her card, slowly writing out each letter as she attempts to decipher the words in her head.

As she writes, Trevor finishes his card and Arasha begins to teach him how to make the flower, with him managing to finish his first one before Angela looks up again.

“Done!” she chirps proudly, pushing her card to sit next to Trevor’s. “I try too?” she asks excitedly, grinning when Arasha pushes over a square of yellow paper to her.

At the older end of her age range, Angela is able to follow along and make a passable flower on her first try. The trio make a couple more before Arasha's alarm goes off.

“That means Amanda will be here soon,” she reminds the littles, digging into her bag to pull out two large yellow envelopes, “I brought these for your cards, but you can take your flowers home in them too.”

Both littles carefully place their crafts in their envelope, as well as splitting Arasha's flowers at her insistence. Closing the envelopes they both write Mama/Mommy on them before Arasha tucks each one into their individual backpacks.

“Thank you so much Arasha!” Trevor basically yells, pulling her into a big hug.

“Yeah, thanks you!” Angela agrees, joining in the hug with a bit less enthusiasm than Trevor, “And thanks you, Trev.” she adds when the hug breaks apart, pulling him into a second one.

Trevor beams, “Love helping my family,” he tells her, giggling at her excited smile.

“All right cuties, let's clean this up so we can all go have some lunch before we age up,” Arasha tells them and the littles return to the table to clean, having it completely cleared off by the time Amanda heads over.

“What did you guys get up to?” Amanda asks curiously as she lifts Angela into her arms as well as pulling Trevor into a hug.

Arasha rolls her eyes when the two littles look at her with wide eyes, “We played with some Legos and had a mini dance party,” she tells the caregiver.

Amanda raises an eyebrow, but lets it drop like everyone in the office tends to do with Arasha and the littles.

Trusting her to have something good planned.

“I shouldn't have left this to the last minute.” Angela mumbles to herself in the middle of the seasonal aisle at the store.

It's only a few days away from Mother's Day and she's looking for something else to get Amanda on top of the card and flowers she made at work.

With her biological mom, she only wanted nice gifts, even when they were kids. But she knows Amanda won't care, that she'll be happy with anything she gets, either way Angela wants it to be perfect.

Walking up and down the aisle again, she calls Chanse.

“What's up bitch?” he answers, “I'm driving with Tommy.” he adds, Tommy saying hi right after.

“I'm trying to decide what to get Amanda for Mother's day,” she explains, “It needs to be perfect.”

Chanse sighs loudly, “Amanda doesn't care if it's perfect, she'll be happy with anything you give her.” he reminds his best friend, “If you want advice, pick something that she can use. So every time she does, she gets to think of you.”

Angela smiles to herself, grabbing something off the shelf and placing it in her cart, “Thank you so much Chanse,” she tells him gratefully, “That was actually helpful.”

He scoffs, “I'm always helpful,” he snarks playfully, “And thanks for reminding me that I need to plan for Father's Day.”

“You don't need to-” Tommy starts, but Chanse cuts him off.

“Love you Ange, talk to you later.” he says and the call disconnects, leaving Angela alone in the store again.

Gift acquired, she moves on to the grocery section to buy ingredients to pre-make some food.

Angela smiles at her sleeping girlfriend, carefully removing herself from her arms and climbing out of the bed.

Quietly she exits their bedroom and takes out the presents she hid in the guest room, setting everything on the coffee table.

Continuing on, she rearranges the fridge before attaching a note she wrote while big and heading back to the bedroom.

She tapes another note on the inside of the door before quietly walking over to her dresser to grab the Wicked pajamas Amanda had gotten her back before she became her caregiver. She puts them on with a slight grimace, still not enjoying wearing little clothes while big.

Taking a deep breath, Angela carefully climbs back into bed, Amanda instinctively pulling her into her arms.

Angela cuddles into her as she closes her eyes, hoping she can give Amanda the best Mother's Day ever.

Notes:

I had this idea and started weeks ago, but decided to leave it until the day/day before American Mother's Day

I haven't finished the other chapter, but that's because it's currently like 3k words. I'll get it done on time, promise lmao

Hope you enjoyed and I'll be back tomorrow with the second half (and maybe a small epilogue with Trevor)

Thank you to Im_totally_asleep_rn for reading through the first chapter for me!
