Chapter Text

“Wow.”

“Yeah. That was…

You were…

…pretty awesome.”

She blushed, softly looking away, twirling a lock of her hair.

“So were you.”

A reddish tinge formed on the emerald shade of his skin.

No. You were.” He returned, more insistently.

“No, You.”

“You.” The two faced each other, mere inches away, drawing closer and closer.

Off screen additional voices could be heard.

Hey, wait-”

“Amadeus, what’s going-”

A high pitched scream rang out as Luna threw her hands around his neck, standing on the tips of her toes and leaning in for a kiss. Ami remained silent watching the screen, emotions running through her mind. She found herself heavily relating to whoever screamed.

“Oh boy.” Amadeus looked up at the screen, a photo of the new Giant-Man kissing the ally/enemy/corporate-sponsored-hero known as Protector displayed on the screen.

“Well at least you and Luna are off the hook.” Cindy replied.

“Yyyeah…”

“What was that all about, anyway?”

“I dunno. I mean, nothing. We just had a little moment I guess.”

Eh, it never would have worked.” Ami chimed in, purely because she wants what’s best for Luna. That was definitely why.

Cho looked at her, offended. “What?”

“Luna was born and raised in Seoul. You’re too American.” Loud. Brash. Cocky. Arrogant. “You speak Korean like a little kid.”

CIndy laughed. “He speaks English the same way.”

“Whatever!” He waved them off, pivoting to the mission.

Ami didn’t actually dislike Amadeus. He’s smart. Capable. A good leader when he can get past himself. But he would be terrible for Luna. She wouldn’t. And what kind of friend would she be if she let her friend date someone bad for her?

First of all, Luna has a no dating clause. Now, Ami’s not totally closed off. If she wants to date she still should be able to. But whoever she dates needs to be able to keep it a secret. To be fine with the relationship not being public information. Somebody private. Like a superspy with a dual identity.

To that point, she needs somebody able to blend in. Whether they’re trying to hide from fans or out in public for them to see, they need to not draw attention. She’s already used to disguising her identity. And Ami Han is Luna’s coworker. Plenty of reason for her to be around. She doesn’t need protection, but whoever she dates should want to. She wants to. God, she wants. Be able to. Admittedly, he would be good at the protection part. He’s literally a Hulk. But discrete? Not at all.

Cho is too confident, too self-centered at times. She doesn’t need somebody who is going to focus on his own pursuits, to prioritize them over her. She needs somebody who will be there to support her, to hold her up, not somebody she has to take care of. Utterly devoted to her. She can take care of herself. And Luna. Ami would pamper her, comfort her, whatever was needed she would do it with joy.

She deserves somebody who will understand and respect her culture. She’s literally a part of it. He speaks Korean fine, obviously, he’s the seventh eighth smartest person in the world. But he is, as she pointed out earlier, American. He’s spent most of his career running with Hulks, Greek Gods, and the Illuminati. It’s still a part of his identity, but he comes from a different world. They come from the same one. Have been working together for as long as Seol Hee had her powers.

Actually, she hates him. She’s just decided. How dare he? How can he look at her, in all her radiant beauty, with her shining smile, with a personality so warm in direct contrast to her powers, and think he’s good enough? That he’s entitled to that? And seriously, what was she thinking???! That just because he’s handy in a fight, and has a good moral compass, that he’s worthy? She’s not either. Like seriously, what could she possibly see in him?

This all just concern for her friend of course. That’s why seeing her kiss Brawn left her feeling disgusted. Angry. Frustrated. Jealous. She could date anyone else, NO, just not him! Eventually, Seol will find somebody better and Ami will be devastated happy(!) for her. All she cares about is her happiness. Finally telling the truth.

Ami thinks, wants, knows she could do better. That doesn’t mean she has feelings for Luna, she does, it’s just an objective fact. Ultimately, nobody is worthy of her. Also a fact. But Ami would spend every second of every day trying to be. Hypothetically, of course. And if Luna finds somebody who will do that, Ami will endorse them wholeheartedly.

…

Fuck.

Who was she kidding?
