Work Text:
It was the evening, the time for children to go home at golding boys academy to go back to their dorms. Yet at an empty class, A Brunet sat alone.
His body bended and his hands struggled, trying to tie ropes together. In a more, specific way. His face looked puzzled. A drop of sweat going down his forehead with his tongue poking out from the side of his lips.
A book was wide open beside two poles, A rope circling around them. The Brunet was tying the ropes together. though,it was all messed up, crooked with strands poking out. Compared to the other ones in the class it was a complete mess.
‘It's supposed to go down here right? No, no, Wrong way! How about up here? Wrong again!’
It was just Him and His thoughts alone in the classroom. Even if the AC was cooling him off, he was still all heated and riled up.
The Brunet was so focused on the ropes he didn't notice the door open and shut.
“Like… this? “ He grunted, untying the rope again.
“Still focusing on the ropes, Maurice? “ Maurice yelped in shock, pushing his chair back in doing so.
He looked to see a fair-headed boy staring right at him with a small grin.
“Roger! You seriously gotta stop scaring people like that. “ Maurice Lectured, focusing back on the ropes.
Roger shrugged. He pushed back a seat beside Maurice and plopped down on it. Leaning his head onto Maurice’s shoulder.
“But, yes. I'm still focusing on the ropes as it is very hard for me so go away now, Shoo not now. “
“What if I want to help? “
“I doubt you do. “
“Maybe I do. “
Maurice slowly turned His head towards Roger, a large smile plastered on his lips. It seemed as if all distress had gone away. “You would? “
“I would. “
“Great! I'll go back now-” Maurice was already standing up, getting ready to run when Roger pulled him back. Gripping his shoulder.
“I said I'd help, not do it for you. “
Maurice gulped, “Alright… so, um, how do you do this one? “
Maurice pointed at the book and Roger looked.
“Chain knot?” Roger Reiterated
“Yessirrr.” Maurice nodded.
“I did that one earlier. “
“Wait- really? Which one? “
Roger pointed towards the back. A neatly knotted chain was hanging onto two poles, It was elegant and neatly done, nothing like Maurices. Maurice raised his brows, looking back to Roger.
“Like, THAT one? “ Maurice pointed.
“Yeah.”
“Holy shit dude- didn't Mrs. Wolfhard like, glaze that one a lot? “
Roger hummed. A small smirk played on his lips. “Yeah, I'm just… goated like that. “
Maurice pursed his lips and returned back the ropes. “Okay, you're just glazing yourself now. “
Maurice tried pulling the rope down when Roger stopped him.
“No- you gotta make like a slipknot.
You don't pull the ropes out.
Okay, thats like a tight knot dude- Don't lick it!
Wrong
Wrong.
Wrong
Wrong.
Wrong! “
Maurice was raining in sweat as Roger continuously commanded him. Seriously, Maurice was going crazy having to redo every strand and wrinkle it might go to his brain!
Maurice wasn't paying attention anymore, aimlessly looking forwards the white board which seemed to be more entertaining. Honestly, even if this was probably half his grade Maurice was getting demotivated.
‘The teacher can fuck herself and her shit cauze I'm not doing any- never doing any of this shit again on go-'
”Maurice! “ Roger shouted. His Scottish accent fully unmasking itself. Maurice jumped a bit and blinked twice.
“What? “
“Stop daydreaming, seriously. “
Maurice huffed and held the ropes tightly again. His mind started to wander once more, was it this way, this way, or that way? He thought. He was about to be pulled in again when he felt Rogers hand tap his.
“Focus. Please. “ Roger begged, his brows and grey eyes turning puppy like.
His blonde hair was a bit messy and matt somehow getting pushed back by the AC and his face was pale, decorated with Rosey cheeks and all making him look like a normal teenage boy, not that of a sadist who burns small animals.
Maurice swallowed some spit, “... Yeah, alright. How'd y-you like, do it again? “
- -
After about half a hour or so, Maurice finally finished.
It was crooked, battered, wrinkly, ugly, and horrid! But hey, it was a chain knot and the teacher didn't specify if it had to be pretty or not and be did the assignment. Only terribly…
Maurice thought of the last part and shrugged. He smiled at the finish project with a hair so messy a bird could mistake it as it's nest. “I-i did it! “ He spoke proudfully.
“You did. Now go and put it with the others, i have to get going. “ Roger stood up, dusting his pants.
“What- really? Not gonna congratulate me? “ Maurice stood up also.
“I just did. “
“Well why don't you stay for a bit? “
“Cant, I have to meet my mum. “
“Wait, you're mums in the school? “
“Yeah, guess who. “
“... Mrs. Robin? “
“Nope.”
“Mrs. Winchester? “
“Wrong again. “
“Mr. Haskins? “
“I said mum, not dad. “
“Well- who is it then. “
Roger chuckled, getting closer to Maurice. “It's the arts teacher. “
“... Wolfhard..? “
“Correct.”
“Your, mum is the arts teacher, Mrs. Wolfhard? “
“Very correct. “
“But i… i… Roger, wolfhard. “
“Yep, come on buddy. “
“Oh wait… You guys have like, the same last name and that means you guys are the same family- Holy shit! “
“There you go. “
Maurice's mouth was agape, thinking of questions to ask And words to say. He started to remember the special treatment Roger had even back when they were still kids. The extra snacks… the head pats… the more frequent compliments… oh it was like finding out you were in a simulation after going through a bad life in there.
“Then why- “ Maurice thought of the first question to ask.
“Why what? “
“Why'd you help me? Because i like, suck alot. “
Roger let out a small giggle before then pecking Maurice’s cheek. Leaving the brunet more confused.
“I can't have my mom knowing the boy I'm with sucks at arts and crafts. What'll she think of me? “
“well… the wolfhard family IS known for their arts skills. “
“Bingo! Now, I've gotta go. See you later Maurice. “ And with that Roger skipped out the class.
Maurice wanted to come but he looked over towards the table. Still messy with books and pencils. So instead, he said,
“Yeah, I'll call you later, I think. I love you! “
