Go for it, Supergirl!!

Summary:

“Kara, what the hell are you doing?” Lena asked, resting her arms against the railing.

“What do you mean?” Kara said, her cape dancing in the wind. “I’m Supergirl.”

It's been a few months since Kara has revealed her identity and Lena and her have settled their differences. The only problem being Kara has become too cute! Even more so since she's revealed herself. And Lena just can't take it!

Chapter Text

Lena watched Kara eat a pot-sticker with a small smile on her face. Her beloved friend had always been one of the cutest people in the world, being an alien and all—that was quite the tall order.

Kara truly was glowing. The corners of her lips were upwards, feet kicking in the air despite having a few inches over Lena. “These are so good! No beyond that.” She scarfed another one down. “Super good.”

Oh god. Lena thought, with a slight blush. She turned and covered her mouth. How can Supergirl be so cute?

“I am so glad I don’t have a gag reflex!” Kara said, popping another pot-sticker into her mouth. Then another and another. By the fourth pot-sticker her cheeks were blown wide, like a chipmunks.

Lena sighed. “You and me both.” She couldn’t watch any more of this. Her heart wouldn’t be able to take it. Quickly she stood up, ignoring how Kara watched her curiously. “Is a girl’s night supposed to be this gluttonous, or is that just you?”

Kara finished the last of the take-out box, looking guilty. “Ha, ha, sorry… You know I’ve got quite the appetite.”

Lena reached over the counter, she wore a oversized gray MIT hoodie, she had gotten in many years ago during her master’s program. Her dark hair was free and flowed down her back, without the usual ponytail and business suit combo. She was soft.

“Would you like a drink?” Lena said, opening a cabinet, she took out a bottle of scotch and two wine glasses. “This brand happens to be pretty strong. So, who knows, maybe you’ll finally get drunk for once.”

Kara laughed, loose and carefree. “I don’t think I’m getting wasted unless I’m on a red sun planet.” She rose off the couch, picked up the greasy box and tossed it into the trash.

“Is that so? Why, if I didn’t know any better. I’d say you’re afraid of trying my scotch? I mean I would need a swab of your saliva to create Kryptonian-alcohol, but I’m sure that wouldn’t take me too long.”

Kara smirked and much to Lena’s shock, returned the teasing. “If you want,” she whispered into Lena’s ear. “I could act the part.”

She leaned against Lena’s back,  wrapped her arms around her waist, and tucked her chin into the croak of Lena’s neck. “Ohh, I’m so drunk, Lena, whatever shall I do.”

You can’t act at all. Despite that Lena still grinned shakily, her hands were currently occupied, and Kara’s hold was tight. She was trapped in a hero’s arms and doing her very best not to break. “Kara…” she whined, “what the hell are you doing.”.

“I’m drunk. See,” Kara pecked Lena on the cheek. “Very, very, drunk.”

You’re killing me. Lena cried in her mind, hissing as Kara moved in for another kiss. “You can’t act to save your life.” She tried to move away but one of Kara’s hands moved from her waist, and took hold of her chin.

“Nope, I’m drunk.” Kara said. Was she hearing her correctly or was Kara’s voice somewhat husky?

“Drunk on you~!” Kara began kissing Lena’s face in rapid succession and all Lena could do was shove her away before things took a step further into uncharted territory.

“You’re a terrible actor.” Lena sighed, free at last, the wine glasses in her hands long forgotten. “That was the sort of acting you’d find in a soap-opera! And I’ve seen Pitch Perfect, you’re pulling the shower scene. That’s right! I know what that is.”

“…”

Kara looked utterly and truly lost, before she shook her head, and begun to laugh right at her. “I thought you said you didn’t like musicals. Does this mean you’ll finally come with me to see Wicked?” She smiled brightly.

“No!” Lena held the glasses in-front of her face. Shielding herself from Kara’s everything. “You don’t fool me, Kara, I won’t let you drag me into a musical number. I forbid it!”

“But you could be…” Kara sang, doing jazz hands. “Popular.”

“Shut it. I don’t sing, I don’t dance, and I won’t see Wicked… Not right now anyways. You haven’t done enough to earn my time.”

“I have to earn your time?” Kara sighed, finally, placing her hands on her hips. Her hair loose and blue eyes wide with joy. “I kept my secret from you for two years. If anything we have to make up for lost time.”

Lena blinked, shocked and flustered. “I mean… I guess that makes sense.”

“I have my moments.” Kara grinned, taking the glasses from the speechless Luthor. “There’s so much I have to tell you about Krypton, you would’ve loved the Science Guild, I don’t think I ever told you that was my guild, so maybe I’m totting my own horn here but…”

Kara’s words faded into nothing. Without the fake-glasses blocking Kara’s face Lena could finally appreciate her beauty. Those sky-blue eyes… her pink lips… the subtle marks on her forehead that showed a small hint of aging even a god wasn’t able to bypass… Even the little birthmark above her right brow.  Lena saw it all.

Kara set the glasses down, then effortlessly popped open the bottle of scotch. “I’m so glad I can finally share all of this stuff with you,” she laughed and Lena wasn’t even listening. Too busy drinking up the sight of her to give a damn about scotch.

But, finally, finally. Lena woke up and said. “That’s cheating.”

Kara poured her drink. “How? I can’t just, not, use my powers.” She finished pouring her glass, handed Lena her’s and rested against the kitchen island. “I poured our drinks, which makes us even. I think its time we spend more of our nights… like this.”

“Just the two of us?” Lena questioned, not looking at Kara. “You mean how we used to.”

Kara nodded and a still silence passed over them. Neither had the courage to say anymore, and there wasn’t anything that truly needed to be said between them.

It wasn’t until Lena downed her scotch in one gulp, allowed herself to get tipsy and carefree, did the quiet finally end. “We aren’t even,” she waved a hand, speaking absently. “Not in the slightest.”

Kara smiled stiffly. “I don’t think we’re ever really going to be even—”

Lena cut her off. “You need to come over more often. Treat me to drinks, a night out on the town, whatever, just know we aren’t even until that happens.”

Kara blinked at Lena, then again, then she did it another time. Her scotch wasting away in her hands.

“You don’t have to do it if you don’t want.” Lena said, trying to save the night. “It was just a suggestion.”

But all her worries disappeared once Kara’s face brightened like the sun. “Well, I guess I’ll have to come over more often.”

Lena’s heart squeezed before she returned Kara’s smile. “I suppose so, Supergirl.”

***

When she had said Supergirl, she didn’t expect for it to be taken so… literally.

“Kara, what the hell are you doing?” Lena asked, resting her arms against the railing.

“What do you mean?” Kara said, her cape dancing in the wind. “I’m Supergirl.”

“…”

This has to be some sort of Superhero favoritism. Lena thought. Not even Alex would see her doing something this outlandishly, trope-y.

The newly revealed hero, held two cans of beer and she had a subtle confidence to her. Supergirl stood up straighter, her voice was bolded and she looked down at Lena like she was everything, nothing, and more.

“Miss Luthor,” Supergirl said, “I believe I owed you a drink,” she held out a can for Lena. “And a night with me.”

She knew what Kara was playing at. Using the fact she chose the title Supergirl instead of Kara. Deciding to play along, and see where the night takes them. Lena hissed. “Didn’t I say that to Kara Danvers?”  She looked at Supergirl with barely hidden disgust. “I certainly, didn’t, request to see you. Supergirl.” Lena crossed her arms, appearing every bit of the classic Luthor archetype, her brother and Superman popularized.

I don’t care if you are close with Kara. I have no reason to trust you.”

Supergirl laughed. “Unfortunately, Miss Danvers is busy at the moment.”

Lena quirked up an eyebrow. “Oh really, do tell, since the two of you are so close surely you know something—”

She was rudely cut off by a can being pressed up against her cheek, Lena winced, shivering. “C-cold…”

It felt like the can had been recently chilled. Or the more likely. Kara used her freeze breath on it and planned this out to mess with Lena.

“This isn’t professional,” Lena hissed, her voice raising in pitch while Kara kept the can on her face. “Not in the slightest.”

At Lena’s torment came Supergirl’s satisfaction, she laughed and laughed and laughed. It was a deep bellied type of laughter, the type that caused lines to crinkle at the corners of your eyes and your smile lines to show. “I never claimed to be.”

Finally, she released Lena from her chilly torture and held out the can for her friend to take. “Now drink up. Cause you’re stuck with me tonight.”

Lena rolled her eyes, taking the beer. “Great.”

Supergirl’s smile softened and her eyes did the same. She held her own can with both hands. “Don’t you want to know why Kara needed me to show up in her place?”

“Well let me think.” Lena held her chin. “The both of you are blond, blue eyed, muscular, tall, chatty, puppy-like.”

“That’s not what I meant.” Supergirl chuckled. “And you know it.”

“Fine, tell me then. Supergirl.” Lena teased. “What’s kept my friend so busy?”

“…”

“Planning.” Supergirl answered.

“With what?”

“With stuff.”

“…”

“Why did you tell me to ask you this question if you won’t even answer it.” Lena scoffed, looking down at the traffic and city lights. “As always you’re a coward.”

Supergirl licked her lips, ran her thumbs against the metal rim of the can. “I’m sorry, for being a coward…” she sighed. “I will tell you this. Miss Danvers is very devoted.” Supergirl’s thumb dug into the metal, causing it to spring upwards. “She told me to tell you that you’re her favorite person, that you make her… Her.”

Lena had nothing to say and Supergirl came roaring back.

“Have you ever toasted before?” Kara, no, Supergirl asked. “I’ve never had to chance to. On my planet. We didn’t indulged in things like this. Maybe you could show me how, Miss Luthor?”

There was a small silly little smile on Kara’s face. She was a awful liar, and she always would be.

“You want me to teach you Earth’s customs?” Lena pinched her nose bridge. “Honestly, how are you real.”

“I’m Supergirl.” She smirked, as if that made things any better. “Only you could teach me things like this. I trust no one else but you.”

“Then, you’re foolish.” She sighed. “And full of it. My family isn’t human. At least, not in the traditional sense.” Yet, still, she opened the beer can, bubbles frothing at the surface. “But. Fine. Do as I say and don’t make me regret this.”

Supergirl’s mouth parted, before stammering out. “I wouldn’t dare.”

“Good. Now follow my lead.” Lena tapped her can against Supergirl’s who soon followed suit. First we tap our glasses.”

“Like this?” Supergirl asked.

“Just like that.” Lena smirked. “But you did mess one step.” She teased watching as Supergirl tilted her like a puppy. “You forgot to open your can, Kara. Don’t you know that’s the first part of toasting?”

“It is? Ah, damn it.” Kara sighed, realizing she broke character.

“Oh god, I can’t believe that’s what did it.” Lena giggled into her fist. “You’re so easy sometimes, almost adorably so.”

Kara huffed she placed a hand on her hips and puffed out her chest. Trying to re-channel her Supergirl confidence. “I’m not adorable. I’m badass and naturally not Kara Danvers. Because she wears glasses and I do not! Nope.”

Lena smirked. “So you admit it? You’re Kara Danvers.” She rose her can into the air. “Well here’s to you being honest with me Supergirl.” Lena shouted, making her voice echo into the night. “I knew those glasses were useless!”

“Hey! Be quiet.” Kara placed hand over Lena’s mouth. “The entire city doesn’t need to know their hero makes three trips to Noonan’s every morning…” she groaned. “Oh gods, that’d be so horrible. I don’t think I’d ever be taken seriously again.”

“Don’t sell yourself short, Kara,” Lena took a sip of beer. “There’s also your rather… interesting dating life. I mean I can count every guy you’ve dated from off the top of my head. There’s James. Then Mon-el. Then William. Oh and don’t forget about Winn!”

“Winn doesn’t count!” Kara argued. “He kissed me. Not the other way around. And you know I didn’t really like Mon-el… He was just, the most.”

“Familiar.” Lena finished. “Yeah, I know all to well.” Hot. Cute. And utterly tragic. We really do make an odd pair. She thought, taking another sip of beer.

“I don’t mean it like that. I mean I love you Lena, I love you more than anything in this world.” Kara bowed her head. “Mon-el was okay but, well, he’s not…you.”

Lena quirked up an eyebrow. “Are you flirting with me?

“Uh…”

“Oh Kara, You don’t happen to still be a little drunk, now do you?” Because if she were to take her friends words to heart  she wouldn’t know what to do with herself—Maybe she’d die from sheer joy and boundless fear? “Well, aren’t you smooth.” Lena said instead.

Kara laughed. “I’m not completely clueless. By the way about that night on the town. Do you think you’d be available on Friday we could go to Al’s? They added a stage, and there’s mics, and all that stuff.”

“Hm?” Lena finished off the last of her beer. “Is this just your attempt to make me sing.”

“No.” Kara turned her head. “Okay, maybe a little.”

“I might be.” Lena added, “But that’s only one night. I want more than just three nights with you Kara. In fact, I want a whole week.” she grinned. “Nothing more, nothing less. Think you could do that, darling?”

“Umm,” If Kara could blush she’d certainly would have done so by now, her eyes were wide and her lips were parted. “I can try to do that.” She weakly grinned.

“That’s not a yes.” Lena said, then took the untouched beer from Kara’s hand. “I’m taking this as confiscation.”

“...” Kara tucked her lips, placing her face in her hands.

“What? Is there an issue.”

“I haven’t drunken it yet. I should have some of the beer I brought over shouldn’t I?”

Well, aren’t you a sly dog. Lena opened the can and held it out. Without any words needing to be exchanged. Kara took a small sip of the beer, not making eye contact with Lena. Once she was finished Kara turned away, her confidence gone into the wind.

Lena took a sip of Kara’s beer. Feeling the warmth Kara had left behind, their lips touching indirectly, she couldn’t help but smile. Damn it all. She really is the cutest.
