Work Text:

Okuyasu sat pathetically sad on Josuke's double bed, waiting for the party to end. Of course, he couldn't miss his friend's 20th birthday, but when everyone started getting drunk, he decided to stay in the guest room, which, by the way, was very nice.
He lay down on the bed, thinking about how stupid he was, all the deaths that had occurred because of his small brain. And then a knock on the door, it opened.
"Hey, Okuyasu, are you alright, man?"
Josuke only stuck his neck into the room, and it was obvious he was drunk; just look at his messy hair and his tired yet ecstatic gaze.
"Relax, Josuke, I'm fine, really, you can go have fun, it's your birthday."
Okuyasu gave him a small, sad smile. Josuke continued to insist.
“Dude, you’re not doing well at all—”
“Hey man, I’m old enough to take care of myself, okay? Go back to the party, Rohan’s waiting for you.”
Josuke sighed.
“Alright, but if you need anything you can call me.”
Okuyasu just nodded, and as soon as the door closed again, he lost himself in his own anguish.
'Maybe if I hadn’t been born everything would be okay, maybe my brother wouldn’t have died, maybe everyone would be better off, maybe…'
He vividly remembered his brother’s death, the smell of burnt flesh and exposed wires, he remembered Shigechi, how he died silently and nobody noticed, he remembered Aya and poor Hayato. Okuyasu never forgave himself for what happened to the boy; today he’s certain that the child is no longer the same.
Then, another knock on the door.
Now, the one who had entered the room was someone else, Yuuya Fungami. He wore a black leather jacket over a white tank top, black leather pants, and brown boots. He gave Okuyasu a small nod, closed the door behind him, and sat down beside him.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Okuyasu scoffed.
“Josuke told you something, didn’t he?”
“He didn’t need to tell me anything, I came here on my own.”
It’s strange how quickly they became friends. Okuyasu basically became Yuuya’s anchor of support when he broke up with a girlfriend or argued with a relative; it was pleasant to chat with him every afternoon while they consoled each other with sweets.
“Yuu, you don’t need to come here, I’m fine.”
Yuuya rolled his eyes.
“Okuyasu Nijimura, if I didn’t know you so well, I’d think you just had a headache.”
He put his arm around Okuyasu’s waist. His touch was warm and gentle.
"Hey Niji, you know you can tell me anything, I would never say anything about you,"
Okuyasu sighed.
“Well, I don’t know, I’m not calm enough for that.”
Yuuya took his hand off Okuyasu’s waist for a second and pulled something from his jacket. Cigarettes.
“Want one? It helps to calm down.”
He stood up and went to the nearest window, opening it and lighting a cigarette with his lighter. Okuyasu decided to get up and go to his side.
“Well, do you have any extra?”
Yuuya pulled another cigarette from the pack and lit it for Okuyasu, who gladly took a drag.
“Well, Yuu, I think I should cease to exist.”
Yuuya almost dropped his cigarette.
“What?!”
“I think everything would be better if I hadn’t even been born, I mean, I think nobody would have died while we were looking for Kira.”
Yuuya was silent for a few seconds.
“Niji, that’s not true, you know very well that none of this was your fault.”
“No, you only say that to console me, Yuu. If it weren’t for my damn chicken brain, nobody would have died.”
Okuyasu took another drag of his cigarette. Yuuya left his on the windowsill. He gripped Okuyasu’s face tightly.
“Nijimura, look closely at my face.”
Now Yuuya’s face was completely serious, his casual smile, only for Okuyasu, had dissipated, and his blue irises shone icily, focused on the other boy’s gray eyes.
“None of this was your fault. You’re not stupid, you just think you are because you were brainwashed in your childhood, okay? And even if you had a chicken brain, what’s the problem?”
He released Okuyasu’s face and picked up his cigarette again.
“I like chickens.”
Perhaps it was the compliment, perhaps it was the close contact, but Okuyasu felt his face flush.
The two remained in comfortable silence for a few minutes, and then Yuuya finished his cigarette and, with one drag, threw the filter out the window.
He exhaled the smoke and looked at Okuyasu, who still hadn't fully recovered from the compliment and was still a little red. Yuuya chuckled softly.
"Heheh, you're so silly, Niji, I guess that's why I never thought you had such..."
"Suicidal thoughts?"
"Yeah."
His smile faded.
"But seriously, Niji, if you need someone to talk to, I'm always here."
He rested his head on the younger man's shoulder, who automatically stiffened.
"Yeah, I guess... thank you."
God, what was Okuyasu thinking? He hadn't thought straight, but when he realized it, his arms were wrapped around Yuuya's shoulders.
"God, forgive me, Yuu."
He closed the space between them, his lips touching the other boy's, which were comfortably warm. He mustered his courage and slipped his tongue into the other's mouth, which he accepted without the slightest effort.
They kissed intensely, their tongues fighting for more and more space. Yuuya's hands quickly slid to Okuyasu's hips, which he squeezed with each intense kiss, and honestly? He was loving every minute of it. He could feel every sensation of Yuuya, from his tongue with a bitter taste of cigarettes to the warm and welcoming touch that arose in his hands.
After a few more seconds, they separated, staring intently into each other's eyes.
"So…" Okuyasu decided to start a conversation, looking away while blushing intensely. "What did you think?" "
Is this your first time?"
"Yes."
"Good." Yuuya licked his lips. "Not bad. Want to try again?"
Although the kiss had ended, the touch hadn't, and Yuuya held the other boy's waist tightly, making them both feel each other's heartbeat.
"Damn it, Yuu, how can you be like this?"
Yuuya was genuinely confused.
"Like what?"
Okuyasu stared into his eyes, looking redder than a pepper.
"Well, how can I say it? You're so amazing and so handsome and so…wow."
Yuuya placed a small kiss on his cheek.
"That's really sweet of you to compliment me, but you should value yourself more. I also think you're certainly charming."
Okuyasu fell silent. He was still trying to process what had happened in the last few seconds—the affection, the compliments, everything.
"Well, want to leave this party? It's really boring."
The two separated, but decided to leave their hands intertwined.
“But Josuke-”
“Relax Niji, Josuke is doing really well, he won’t even be bad”
Okuyasu sighed.
“Right”
