Bex slowly walks around the truck with her gun pointed and as she walks around the last part she comes face to face with shane
“bex “ he whispers before he hears the shot that will change his life forever as soon as he hears it Shane sees Bex hit the ground. He fires shots into a big container where the shots originally comes from, he then shakes bed and pleads
“Bex, bex?Get up, come on bex, open your eyes. He feels tears well up as he realizes Bex may be dead.
Kneeling in front of her, he then in the corner of his eye he sees her, Lazarus his biological mom reaching for the gun and he yells “stop, put it down, drop it.” as the gun is still pointed at her. She then throws the gun a few feet away from her.
She then reaches her right hand over her body to the wound she has as she says “she dead? Looks dead”
“Stop talking, I'm going to need you to put your hands behind your back and turn around ” Shane says as he gets up from being right next to Bex and gets closer to Lazarus.
Lazarus shakes her head “I told you im not going back in that box, just do it pull the trigger”
“No, no I'm not a killer like you.” Shane said
“Shaneive seen your military record, killing comes naturally to you. Because that's who you are. Even now you're thinking about putting that bullet through my brain, aren't you? You want to kill me. You hate me for taking your sweet Bex, don't you?”
As shane realises she brought bex into the conversation he gets angry but doesn't pull the trigger
“Shoot me” as gunshots go off in the distance. “SHOOT ME” he gets more angry and then he puts the rifle in the arm and shoots 3 times.Lazarus and Shane take deep breaths. “Turn around and put your hands behind your back.”
“I won't let them put me back into a box, Shane” lazarus said
Bex comes slowly into consciousness and tries to look around, as she does she hears the muffled conversation between Shane and what sounds like Lazarus.
“Turn around” yells Shane and then he hears it, a tiny sound coming out of the direction of where bex is he turns slightly to look at her.
Shane whispers “bex?” and that's when Lazarus tries to grab the gun she threw earlier but being fully conscious now moves quicker and shoots lazarus. After she does she tried to get up but failed she then falls back down to her back He kicks the gun away from Lazarus and runs back to Bex gathering her in his arms
“Bex! Hey it's ok, I got you, hey it's ok, you're alright. I need a medic! He frantically begins to look around the abandoned warehouse to see if anyone was around. He yelled “I need a medic!” as she slowly lets go of his arm
He barely hears or remembers what happens in the next 10 minutes he hears a muffled “send a medic to our 20”
It comes out whispers but he hears bex say “ im ok, im ok
“ ok. I got you” shane whispers
“Im ok” Bex says trying to reassure not just Shane but also herself.
“Hey” Shan says as he starts to feel her loosen her grip on his arm
He feels the blood pooling around him as Bex slowly loses consciousness again in his arms. He just remembers the blurbs of the ambulance coming, the EMS guys getting her into the ambulance and telling him they're going to take her to the Cheyenne regional medical center and then they leave with Bex as shane stays there zoned out still in Bex’s blood, starts taking her to the Cheyenne regional; medical center.
Hassani breaks the spell Shane was under by addressing him and telling him to go clean up and meet him at the hospital. Shane gets to the hospital less than an hour later and asks where Rebecca Henderson is staying as he gets to her room his breath slows there bex was in a hospital room with too many wires and tubes coming out of her. He stays there for hours and decides to get some snacks to hold him over because he wasn't leaving until he knew she was ok. and if anyone has contacted Sam, her daughter, which no one has yet. So he offers reluctantly
“Hey sam.are you alone right now?” asks Hassani.
“No, right now I'm with a friend, why?” Sam says as she takes a few steps away from rylie her friend she was with.
“ Something happened to your mom and I need you to meet me at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center immediately.” Hassani says as he paces outside of bex’s door.
“OMG what happened? Is she ok?” Sam says as she starts to pace back and forth.
“She was shot in the arm during a recent mission but she is alive and the doctors say she should be waking up soon.” Hassani says, trying to calm Sam down.
Hassan hears Sam taking a deep breath as she tells him that she can't be there until tomorrow night because there's no plane tickets from University of Oregon to Cheyenne tonight and the earliest is tomorrow morning at 10 am.
A few hours later Bex slowly wakes up and Shane shoots up from the nearby chair and comes closer to Bex.
Bex looks over and smiles at Shane as she says “damn you look like shit.”
Shane quickly counters that with “Hey im not the one in a hospital bed”
They stay like that and chat for a while and then Shane decides to go grab some snacks and when Bex’s phone starts ringing, Bex picks up the phone and smiles when she realizes it's Sam.
“Hey sam” bex says with a small smile.
“Oh my god youre ok. you scared the crap out of me.” Sam says finally relaxing slightly after seeing that her mom was ok..
I'm sorry about that and don't worry about it, it just grazed my arm and wanted to admit me for 72 hours.”
“Are you alone? Please tell me you're not alone. I feel so bad that I'm not with you right now.” Sam responds.
And at that moment Shane knocks on the door and walks in holding red vines and a few other snacks he knows him and Bex likes. Bex looks up makes eye contact with shane smiles then looks back down to the phone to look at Sam
“No, I'm not alone right now Shane is with me.
“Oh who's Shane? I don't think you have ever mentioned him.” Sam says.
“Oh he's my friend and coworker within the FBI we’re on the same taskforce. He's actually the one that saved me.” Bex says as she looks back up at Shane.
Shane stood still in the doorway just watching Bex excel at being a mom and comforting Sam. feeling like he was intruding, he slowly then backs up to go back outside to give Bex some space but Bex then looked back up at him and said “ hey you dont have to leave you can stay in here i dont mind
Shane paused his movement for a few seconds before coming back into the room and closing the door behind him. But he still was fully convinced so he just stood right by the door.
Bex looked up at him and quietly said with a tired smile "seriously stay On the phone, Sam immediately caught the shift in her mother’s voice.
“Ohhh,” Sam said slowly. “So that’s Shane.”
Bex rolled her eyes. “Do not start.”
A quiet laugh escaped Shane before he could stop it.
“Hi, Sam,” he said awkwardly, stepping further into the room.
“You’re the one who dragged my mom out of a gunfight.” she asked with a hint of surprise in her voice
“ yeah i was and she would’ve done the same for me.”
Bex looked down for a moment, suddenly very interested in adjusting the hospital blanket.
Sam noticed immediately.
Interesting. She thought but she wasn’t gonna comment on that while Bex was recovering from a gunshot wound.
“So,” Sam continued casually, “are you the reason my mom sounds so much more happy then she normally does even after almost dying after getting shot in the arm. “
“Sam,” Bex warned.
“What? I’m just saying she usually doesn't smile this much while we're on the phone and she usually threatens at least three people a day.”
“That is not true.”
Shane gets quiet after hearing that confession from Sam but quickly Shane smirks and says. “IThe threatening part is a little true though..”
Sam laughed for the first time since getting the phone call, and the sound alone seemed to relax everyone in the room.
For a few moments things almost felt normal.
Then Bex shifted slightly and pain flashed across her face.
Shane noticed instantly.
His expression changed. “Hey, don’t move.”
“I’m fine.”
“You got shot six hours ago.”
“It barely hit me.”
“You passed out in my arms.”
The room went quiet again. Not an awkward silence, just one that reflects what everyone went through a few hours ago. Sam broke the silence first.” I'm glad you're ok mom and ill see you tomorrow.” and then she hung up.
