“No screaming or pleading?” It almost teased, leaning forward until it loomed completely over Great. The head folded weirdly over the shoulder, looking at Great for a moment. Seconds or minutes, Great didn’t know, but his heart slammed inside him until it was the only thing he felt and heard.
The being leaned back, a crack of bones, and moved its arm toward Great’s feet. Or what would have been its arm, as the bone stopped at the elbow, a string of flesh moving with the movement “You’re wounded.”
Its skull moved toward Great, the eyes glowing in the dark - the dull gray reminded Great of looking into a dead person’s eyes “Why so quiet?” It purred, and Great had the dreadful realization that the mouth was not moving as the muffled voice continued “Must I make you scream to hear you again?”
