Work Text:
The first thing Izuku feels when the veil of sleep is lifted and he wakes up is the grounding weight of an arm around his waist. With his eyes still closed, he lets his own hand wander up the cool arm all the way to the shoulder. There's a steady breathing somewhere next to his ear, his yet undisturbed partner sleeping soundly under the blue All Might styled covers right by his side.
A deep yawn makes the green haired boy stretch a little bit. He's careful in the action, mindful of the sleeping form next to him. Reverting back from the movement, Izuku finally blinks his eyes open and turns to his left. The proximity of the other body makes his nose brush Shouto's cheek as he turns and it immediately raises the butterflies in Midoriya's stomach. He has to pull back just a touch to have a better look at his boyfriend. A smile tugs at his lips as he watches the other boy's still and peaceful expression.
It's way too early. Izuku has this routine: waking up with the sun, running around the campus, working out before classes. The third year has just started a few weeks ago, but nothing is really different from the way it was before. He's always been industrious. Always keeping to the schedule. It's become his lifestyle at this point. No need to alter it.
The only thing that has changed is the official status of being Todoroki's boyfriend. That's a new one. Though it doesn't really feel this way. Their connection has always been on another level. But now that both of them have been through hell and back, now that they have had some time to think things through, reconsider the priorities and life goals, now everything is finally falling into its place. The first thing being Shouto falling asleep in Izuku's bed more often than not just because he can. Because he is always wanted there.
The sunshine is slowly finding its way into the room, creeping up to the bed to warm up the sleepy faces on the pillow. Midoriya has to get up, find his shorts, and leave, just as he does every morning. But somehow, today – as he watches the way the sun plays with Shouto's two colored hair and the way a few strands move back and forth from his breathing – he cannot find the will to move.
Izuku just sighs and settles in more comfortably to watch his boyfriend. His green eyes dart from the perfect hair that doesn't seem to ever tangle to slightly rosy cheeks and then to pink lips. It's mesmerising how calm and relaxed he looks. It's in everything: his facial expression, the rise and fall of his chest, the way his hand is fixed on Izuku's side.
Midoriya lets himself raise his hand and bring it to Todoroki's face. His fingertips gently land on the reddened patch of skin somewhere around the boy's left temple. He traces a line from there and down to Shouto's chin, then slowly down his pale neck.
The movement makes the other boy stir and he hums absentmindedly in his sleep. Izuku almost stops blinking to catch every single shift on Shouto's face. His mismatched eyelashes flutter and in a few seconds the green eyes are met with blue and grey ones.
"Hi," Izuku whispers, afraid of ruining the tranquil atmosphere around them.
Shouto swallows sleepily and the corners of his mouth lift slightly. The simple movement makes Midoriya's smile grow ten times bigger. His beaming grin is enough to warm up the hearts of both boys.
Shouto's slow blinking reminds Izuku of a sated cat, so languid and lazy that it makes him want to protect this state of his boyfriend for as long as it is possible. Midoriya drinks in his blissed out expression, his hand travelling upwards from Todoroki's neck to play with the hair on the boy's nape. He tugs at it gently, scratches the scalp underneath his fingers and lets his hand rest there, just holding the weight of Shouto's head. The boy's chest rumbles with a deep, content growl at the ministrations.
"'Zuku," he manages to mumble, his eyes slipping closed once again. "Leavin' alr'dy?"
"No, not today," he reassures him quietly, content to let Shouto have a few more moments of peacefulness. The boy lets out a relieved sigh and smiles again.
The green haired boy leans in and plants a soft, close-mouthed kiss to the inviting lips. He registers a pull on his waist and in a moment he's completely pressed into his boyfriend, head-to-toe, with no chance of escaping. Izuku giggles slightly, not at all opposed to such closeness. The space between their faces is pretty much non-existent now, so Midoriya does what he can do best in this situation: kiss everything that's in front of him. Every part of his boyfriend's handsome face is under the attack of feather-light kisses: his nose, cheeks, forehead. But special attention is paid to one particular detail. The scar.
"What're you doin'?" he can barely contain his smile as he squints at Izuku. The kisses leave slight tingling in their wake and it makes Todoroki giddy with delight.
"Showing my love." Another kiss lands near Shouto's left eye and the boy blinks a few times to clear his vision and meet Izuku's gaze.
"For my scar?"
The green haired boy stares at him for a few beats, studying the added details that came with the state of awakeness. He could swear that this man is becoming more and more beautiful with every passing minute.
"For the things that make you you."
Shouto seems to be contemplating this idea for a few seconds. He stays silent, but his body is as relaxed as ever, eliminating every thought of discomfort or unease. So Izuku just waits. Their gazes are locked for some period of time and everything feels so comfortable that he never wants to leave this moment.
Just then Shouto tilts his face forwards and his lips connect with Izuku's right cheek. He almost gasps at the tender contact and his whole upper body goes red.
"You're just as beautiful," he murmurs against Midoriya's scarred skin.
"Shouto…" His smile is once again brightening the whole room and his eyes are dangerously watery as he wraps his arms securely around the love of his life.
"Kiss it again," he pleads quietly and Izuku beams, the chance to press his lips to the boy's face again and again making his heart race with adoration and affection. Shouto's wish is fulfilled dozens of times, he cannot hold back his soft giggles anymore and as they lie tangled in sheets, both of them feel the most alive, they cannot help but fall more and more in love with each other.
It is in moments like these when both of them know for sure that everything they went through was not for nothing. And so they cherish such minutes as if they were pure gold. Because they truly are.
