Work Text:

“I really can’t wait to take a hot bath and lay into bed.” Lucy mutters out. It has been the longest day. “And just feel your arms around me.” She never expected Tim to love cuddling so much but it’s become one of her favorite things about him.

Tim knows that it was a stressful day for her. “Hey, I’m really okay.” He uses the pad of his thumb to wipe a few tears off her cheeks. Nolan thought he found Tim’s body hours earlier and instead of confirming if it was him or not, he just said it over the radio. Lucy couldn’t get in touch with her husband and worked herself into a panic attack because of it. Tim had been on another call and his radio had been damaged. His phone was on silent and he hadn’t realized it until after. When he finally saw her, she jumped into his arms.

“I know that now but it was terrifying when Nolan said it.” Tim almost murdered the man but stopped himself. They finally get home and head inside. “Mama!” Their son Liam runs to her. He’s two years old and he has brightened up their lives. “Hi baby.”

Luna had been kind enough to pick him up from daycare today. “Thank you, Luna. We appreciate you. Today was rough.”

“Wade told me. I love spending time with him. He’s eaten and had his bath.” Liam goes to Luna to say goodbye and then goes to his daddy.

Lucy walks Luna out and locks the house up. They had grabbed takeout on the way home. “Someone’s tired.” She wraps herself around her boys. “I just need this for now.” They sit there until Liam starts squirming.

“Why don’t you go get him settled for bed, okay?” Lucy takes him in her arms. “I’ll get dinner situated and be up in a few.”

Tim kisses her temple and kisses Liam before going to get things ready for dinner. Lucy goes to Liam’s room and rocks him to sleep tonight. She hasn’t done this in a while but she does not want to let him go. “I love you baby boy. You are truly the greatest thing to happen to your daddy and I.” She kisses his forehead and he nuzzles into her chest. He’s fast asleep but Lucy is struggling to lay him down. Tim comes upstairs and sees Lucy with Liam.

“Is he asleep?” Lucy smiles at her husband.

“He is. I just wanted a few extra cuddles.” Tim kneels and puts his hand on Liam’s back. “But we need to eat and try to sleep.”

Tim helps her stand and transfers Liam to his crib. “Dinner is all set up and waiting for you.” Kojo lays in his dog bed in Liam’s room and they shut the door. Tim leads Lucy downstairs and they eat their dinner. They clean up and head to their own bedroom to get ready for bed.

“The shower is ready to go baby, come on.” Tim nudges Lucy to the bathroom. She needs to feel Tim close to her after the day they had. This is bothering her way more than it should. It’s just hard to hear what she did over the radio and then not being able to get in touch with Tim at all. “I’ve got you.”

They get into the shower and hold each other. Lucy lays her head against Tim’s chest, not caring that she isn’t cleaning herself up. “Today sucked. Those minutes felt like hours and I thought I lost you forever.”

“I’m sorry, Luce. I could kill Nolan for being so stupid.” He murmurs.

“Well, he heard the wrath of Lucy Bradford and I’m pretty sure I scared him straight. He’s either on his way back to Pennsylvania or he’s going to not be so stupid anymore.” Tim’s lips curl slightly. “If he knows what’s best for him.”

“Something tells me that he will be working the drunk tank for quite some time. The Watch Commander can be a hard ass.” Lucy smirks and shakes her head.

“But at least he’s cute and his real ass is adorable.” Her hands move down and she pinches him. “I love you and I promise I’m doing everything that I can to always come back to you.”

“Make love to me Tim.” Lucy whispers, needing to feel all of Tim right now. He wastes no time in capturing his lips with hers and they don’t care how long their shower ends up being.

Tim puts just one of his shirts on Lucy for the night. It’s long enough and smells just like him. Once he’s in bed, she curls into him and he wraps his arms around her. “Sleep well Luce. I love you.”

“I love you Tim.” She is already on her way to falling asleep and he waits until her breathing evens out before closing his own eyes.

Tim feels someone thrashing besides him and he feels Lucy digging into his chest. His eyes pop open and he knows that Lucy is having a nightmare. “Lucy, baby, wake up.” She accidentally hits his face. “Lucy, I’m here. I’m alive. You’re okay.” He rubs her back and brings her out of her nightmare. It takes longer than what he thought to come out of it but she finally opens her eyes. “There she is.” He murmurs.

“Oh god, Tim. I’m sorry. It was actually your body in the dumpster.” He pulls her close and never wants to let her go. “I thought I was over having nightmares.”

Tim rubs her back. “It was pretty traumatic for you. There is nothing wrong with having nightmares. I’m here for you, okay? I’m worried about you and I wish that I could take this all away.” He kisses her and she relaxes into his embrace.

“I hate Nolan right now.” Tim isn’t a huge fan of him at this moment.

“Me too, Luce. Do you need anything right now?” He looks down at her.

“I just need you.” She whispers and Tim hopes that she falls back asleep easily. It takes some time but she finally manages to fall asleep. There were many reassurances from Tim, which seemed to have helped. He knows that he needs sleep but he is more worried about Lucy. After almost an hour, he finally dozes off again.

Unfortunately, he wakes up startled when he feels Lucy clutching him tightly and digging her nails into him. She was having another nightmare and he could see tears on her face. “Luce.” Tim rubs his hands along her back gently. “Baby, I’m here. It’s Tim.” She startles when Tim says her name a bit louder and then she looks relieved.

“I’m sorry Tim. I don’t know why I can’t seem to get this out of my head.” She covers her face with her hands. “What is wrong with me tonight?”

Tim puts the small lamp on. “Look at me, Luce.” He gently cradles her head in his hands. “It’s okay to feel however you need to right now. There’s nothing wrong with you, okay? You can’t control nightmares.”

“But I literally keep hurting you.” She puts her face into his chest.

“I don’t care about that. I just want you to be okay. I have got you, no matter what.” Lucy still hates this. She just relaxes into his embrace and feels his heart beating against her hand. Liam is still asleep, thankfully, and for that she is grateful.

“Do you want some tea before trying to sleep again? I think that it could help.” Tim murmurs. Lucy nods and he grabs her hand to help her out of bed. They go downstairs and Lucy sits outside while Tim makes her tea. He comes outside and hands her the cup.

“You always know how to help me through everything.” Lucy says after taking a few sips of her tea. “Thank you for always knowing what I need and taking care of me. You’re always here no matter what and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you.”

“I will always be here for you. I just want you to be okay. I’m here and I’m sorry for what happened today.” Lucy finishes her tea and Tim cleans her cup up. “Let’s try to go get some more sleep.”

Tim takes Lucy in his arms once more, hoping that she falls asleep and can stay asleep. The rest of the night she does sleep and when Tim finally wakes up, she is asleep in his arms still.

When Tim does go into work the next day, he may or may not threaten Nolan, but that’s really no one else’s business.
