Chapter Text
The sky suddenly darkened to a void, a warm air waving over the crowded playground. The silver object floated down, fire and smoke billowing out from the bottom. The ship landed in front of everyone and the crowd froze, green aliens with long antennas and beady black eyes adorned with armour stepped out. Knight Matt bravely stepped up, grasping a hold of the sword on his waist.
Suddenly, Matt was brought back to reality as he heard Mello’s voice from above.
“Didn’t you just start that game?” Mello asked, shadowing Matt from the sun as he leaned over the red haired boy. “There’s already a boss fight?”
Matt shrugged, shifting on the creaky bench to make room for Mello, “Most adventure games are pretty fast paced.”
Mello leaned over him almost entirely, like an annoying sibling, looking down at the game so closely that Matt could only see the back of his head. Matt rolled his eyes as he snapped his DS closed.
“What do you want, Mels?” He asked as Mello straightened back up.
“I don’t know.” Mello answered, leaning back against the bench. “We’re outside for once, and you’re just playing video games. Why don’t you enjoy it a little? I mean, even Near is enjoying it.” He pointed out, gesturing over at the white haired boy. Matt looked over to see Near sitting in the grass, solving a puzzle.
“I mean, it’s not the most entertaining, but at least he’s doing something!”
“Well, what do you wanna do?” Matt looked back over at Mello, “You wanna go play tag with the seven year olds over there?”
Mello couldn’t hold back a scoff at the idea. Mello had always hated interacting with the younger kids, he thought it’d make people see him as less.
“I don’t know, I just don’t wanna sit here watching you play video games the whole time we’re out.” Mello rolled his eyes, his arm slinking over the back of the bench.
“You don’t have to stay with me.”
Mello didn’t say anything in response to that, couldn’t. There wasn’t anything good to say in response to that.
Suddenly, the voice of Roger cut through the air.
