Chapter Text
Diavolo woke up on the street. He rubs his head. He sighs. He’s tired of these deaths. He doesn’t even remember what happened to him to be put in this never-ending situation.
“Ugh… That one was really bad… I hope something like that doesn’t happen again any time soon…” Diavolo groans.
Diavolo looks around, assessing his new surroundings. He seems to be in a Japanese town. He sees a store called the Kameyu Department Store. Diavolo decides to go inside, so he’s not on the street. He doesn’t want to get run over again.
As Diavolo stands up, he realizes he has a light purple sweater on. “W-what?”
Diavolo is caught off guard. This sweater belongs to Doppio, who died back at the colosseum. His soul became separated from Diavolo’s after Chariot Requiem swapped everyone's bodies. Is Doppio back? How…?
“Ugh, whatever. It’s probably just a dumb outfit for however I’m dying this time… It’s just a coincidence…” Diavolo says to himself.
Diavolo walks inside of the store. A clock inside reads 7:30 PM. He decides he wants to find a place to hide, so he can’t get killed easily. He finds a section in the market that sells clothing, and he shuffles between two suits hanging in the corner. Despite his attempts to hide, Diavolo is still fully visible due to being 6’3” with neon pink hair.
Diavolo realizes this, and comes back out. When he reemerges from the spot, he sees that an employee is staring at him.
“Um… Do you need help, sir?” The man says, visibly confused at the scene. He looks like he’s about 5 inches shorter than Diavolo, and he has slicked back blond hair. Diavolo's eyes linger on him for a moment.
Diavolo blushes, embarrassed. “Oh– um. I’m- I’m fine… I was just… looking for a suit.” Diavolo stammers, “Going inside them like that helps me see if they fit.”
Diavolo turns around, and pretends he is choosing between the suits.
I need to find a way to get this guy away from me! He could be a serial killer for all I know!
“I would get that one,” the employee starts, “The purple would match your hair.” He points at the suit to Diavolos right.
“Um, actually that’s more of a pink. It’s just desaturated.” Diavolo corrects him. He doesn’t really know why, since he usually would try to get away in a situation like this—But there’s something charming about this man that tells Diavolo he should keep talking to him…
The employee in front of him interrupts Diavolo's thoughts. “Your hands are nice.”
“I beg your pardon?”
The man chuckles. “Ah, nevermind. That was off topic, wasn’t it? My apologies.”
“My name is Yoshikage Kira. What's yours?”
Diavolo doesn’t respond immediately. Telling this man that he just met his name is risky. But he decides to play along.
“That’s a personal question.”
Kira laughs, “You like your privacy, huh? I can respect that. I prefer to live a quiet life as well.”
Diavolo wishes he could use King Crimson and see what this guy is gonna do… Is he a threat? Or is he really just a charismatic worker? Diavolo wants to trust him, but he has an intimidating aura that makes him suspicious. He might as well keep talking to him, since if he is dangerous, Diavolo can’t do much about his fate without his stand.
Diavolo sees that Kira is holding a thin messenger bag, which makes sense considering the time. He must be on his way out of work. Diavolo thinks maybe it would be a good idea to stay with him overnight, so he doesn’t have to sleep on the streets.
“Hey, I think I’m done shopping here. Can I walk home with you? I’m a tourist… I don’t know my way around here very well, and I need to find a place to stay. You could, uh, show me around.” Diavolo says.
“You don’t have a hotel?” Kira questions, “Why didn’t you book one before you went on vacation?”
“I never said I came here on purpose!!” Diavolo snaps back.
Kira gives Diavolo a weird look. “Uh, right…”
Kira starts to walk away, then turns around. “Well anyways, if you want to stay at my place, that’s fine with me,” He starts walking again, “I may have extra room for you.”
Diavolo takes a few steps to catch up to Kira, then goes next to him and walks with him. As they leave Kameyu, Diavolo sees that there’s a weird lump in Kira’s bag. “What’s that?” He says, pointing to the bag.
Kira looks at Diavolo, and clutches his bag. “That’s none of your business.”
Diavolo’s face grows uneasy as he watches Kira’s demeanor change. What could Kira possibly be hiding? Diavolo knows it’s a bad idea to pursue further, but he needs to know what the deal with this man is. Diavolo steps forward. “What’s in the bag?”
Kira furrows his eyebrows, turning to face Diavolo. “I suggest you stop questioning me.”
While Kira is saying this, Diavolo sees a purple glow emanate from the man as a double begins to take shape.
A stand.
How could this be possible? Throughout the thousands of deaths Diavolo has gone through, in not one of them has there been another stand user. Has the loop finally come to an end? No… That’s not right. Requiem’s ability wouldn’t let that happen.
“Wait— Don’t- Don’t attack me. You have a stand?”
Kira hums, "Are you referring to my Killer Queen? If so, then yes. I guess I am.”
“I’m a stand user, too. I can’t use my abilities anymore, though.” Diavolo responds.
“You can’t use them? What happened?” Kira asks.
Diavolo is relieved he is interested. Looks like his death has been postponed… Maybe this guy is safe, after all…
“I used to be a mob boss. Some little shithead overthrew my organization. I couldn’t beat his ability…” Diavolo continues, “He put me in a loop. I’m going to go through an infinite cycle of death. I’m surprised I haven’t died yet. Usually I last a few minutes at best.”
Kira unsummons Killer Queen, “Interesting. You said you were a mob boss?”
Diavolo nods. He doesn’t care at this point about revealing his identity since he’s already long dead and his fate is sealed. “Now that I’ve revealed my secret, will you tell me what the deal with your bag is?”
Kira scoffs. “You expect me to tell you? I’m not dead, I still have to preserve my identity.”
As Kira says this, he grazes his hand over his bag and the hand-sized lump seems to disappear as smoke flows out of the top. Diavolo rolls his eyes, he was hoping Kira would be less secretive after he just shared so much of his own disclosed information.
“Why don’t we head to my house now? It’s late. I want to make sure I’m in bed by 11pm.” Kira says while walking. Diavolo follows Kira back to his home.
