The sun was burning down on New York, making Miranda sweat in her tight dark blue Versace dress, clinging to her body like a second skin. Caroline and Cassidy were standing on her left, her right arm slung around her wife's waist.
“Come on Mom, please.”, Caroline begged, her sister making the same puppy eyes. “No.”, the editor repeated once more, curling her fingers tighter around her wife’s waist. “Oh come on darling, please.”, Andy begged as well, tugging on her wife’s arm. “I will not get into such a low establishment.”, Miranda continued vehemently, trying to pull out of her family’s grip.
The twins sighed before going inside the bowling hall and leaving their mothers outside to mingle. “Come on darling, please. You promised it to the girls.”, Andy begged even more but the older woman didn't move a single inch.
A puff of air left her, before she started striding towards the entrance of the bowling hall. Andy was hot on her heels, catching up with her wife just before she opened the door. “Come on Andrea, or do I have to wait forever for your pretty little ass.”, she huffed, making Andy smile and lean down to kiss the cheek offered to her.
The white haired womans lips lifted slightly and she walked inside behind the brunette. Loud music was blarring through the speakers, positioned strategically around the room, making the editor flinch inwardly.
Andys hand softly pressed into the small of her back, gently guiding her further into the room. Miranda was surprised at the lack of people and her wife smiled knowingly. “I booked the whole thing for two hours, no one will bother us here today.”, the younger woman leaned in to whisper. Miranda leaned in for a soft kiss, smiling against plump lips. “Thank you darling.”, she muttered, before continuing further into the wide space, spotting her daughters already sitting at one of the bowling lanes.
“Mom! We knew Andy could get you in here.”, the twins called out excitedly, running over to the couple. Lights switched on beside them and a young guy walked up to them. “I'm assuming you're the Priestly family.”, he asked with twinkling eyes, a silver sword dangling from his earlobe.
“You may assume right.”, Miranda said sternly, tapping her foot impatiently against the hardwood floors. “If you could all follow me and tell me your shoe sizes while we're on the way, that'd be nice.”, he explained further. They all followed him obediently, Andy zoning out of the conversation a bit, being lost in her own thoughts.
“Andrea darling, do you want something to drink?”, Miranda woke her from her trance, placing a soft hand on her elbow. “I'll just take a water, thank you.”, she murmured, her hand catching her wife’s slipping one.
“Are you alright my love?”, the editor asked gently on their way back to the bowling alley. “Yes, sorry darling. I was just lost in thought.”, the brunette reassured the older woman. They put on their shoes, the twins practically buzzing with excitement. “Mom, Andy can we start, please.”, they begged with their biggest puppy eyes.
“Yes of course.”, Andy ushered them on, looking at the guy for some advice on how to start. “Okay, now I just need your names and we can start.”, he explained, smiling at all of them. “Cassidy, Caroline, Andy and Miranda.”, Cassidy replied, jumping around him with a spring in her step. “Cassidy, do get a grip on yourself.”, Miranda chided her daughter, lightly grabbing her arm.
Caroline snuck around him, watching how he typed in their names. “Are you gay? You look gay, our uncle Nigel is gay.”, she asked him bluntly, his ears glowing red with embarrassment. “Caroline!”, Andy called out, barely containing her laughter, while Miranda looked absolutely mortified. “I'm so sorry for her.”, she apologized, her ears almost just as red.
“I'll leave you to it now, if there's a problem I'm at the bar.”, he chocked out, before dashing out of the conversation.
Shortly after, the bowling alley came to life, making the twins jump. “I do hope you know that I love you both very much.”, Miranda said to the twins, staring down the hideous bowling shoes, she'd have to wear. “Yes of course Mommy, we love you very much too.”, they replied in total synchro, smiling their cutest smiles.
Andy had already changed her shoes, standing next to the twins with one hand on each of them. “Go pick out your bowling balls girls, I'll help Mommy change her shoes.”, she told them before turning back around to her wife.
“I don't know why Mommy needs help with her shoes.”, Caroline whispered to her sister. “How would I know, she's a mystery.”, the other twin answered before they both shrugged their shoulders and got to work on the bowling balls.
“You can already start girls, we'll be with you in a minute.”, Miranda ordered them softly, sagging back against the couch cushions. “Come on love, put on the shoes.”, Andy pleaded, kneeling down in front of the older woman, “I know how much this hurts your pride, but the girls are so excited for this, have been for weeks.” “Get off the floor darling, you shouldn't be kneeling down.”, Miranda murmured, grabbing the hands offered to her to pull the younger woman up and next to her.
The shoes glowered at her as Miranda slid off her stilettos to put on the horrid red, white and blue shoes. Sniffing slightly she stood up and offered the brunette her hand, as the girls cheered for a strike they just shot. “I do think, we should tell Nigel to come here though.”, the editor snickered, making her wife laugh softly, it was her favorite sound in the world.

It wasn’t as bad as Miranda had thought it’d be. The girls certainly had their fun, winning strike after strike, beating their mothers at the end. They were both snuggled up against her sides, having long fallen asleep as they watched Jurassic Park. The end credits were just starting to roll, when Andy appeared in the doorway, smiling at the sight of her lovely family.
“Should I get them to bed?”, she asked quietly, stepping closer to the couch. “No, no I’ll make sure of it. You go to bed already, I’ll be with you in a minute.”, the editor replied, smiling at her wife, who stepped back out into the hallway.
Slipping out her arms from underneath their bodies, she gently nudged Cassidy’s shoulder. “Cass, baby, wake up. I need to get you to bed.”, she murmured softly, into her daughters hair, smiling as the young girl groaned slightly.
“Carry me Mommy.”, she requested sleepily, stretching out her hands to place them on her mothers shoulders. Miranda grunted softly, as she lifted her daughter into her arms, who immediately curled into her body, soft puffs of air landing against the editors skin. Carrying the small redhead up the one flight of stairs, she placed her on her bed, smiling at the sight.
A “Good night Mommy” drifted to her ears, making her smile even more as she tucked in her daughter and kissed her goodnight.
Stretching her back on the way to the living room again, she groaned at the prospect of carrying the other twin upstairs.
Caroline didn’t even wake up as she carried her upstairs to tuck her in and lightly kiss her temple. Plates and drinks went into the dishwasher and the tv got turned off, before she finally walked upstairs to her bedroom. Andy was already waiting for her, smiling as she caught sight of her wife.
“Were they not too heavy?”, the brunette asked, patting the space next to herself. “Of course not, you know that I’m perfectly well of carrying my own daughters.”, Miranda replied, sticking her nose into the air like a child, but a smile was dancing around her lips. “I know that you are love, my strong and beautiful wife.”, the younger woman snickered.
“I need to dash to the bathroom real quick, then I’ll finally be with you.”, the editor leaned down to her wife, pressing a tender kiss against soft lips.
She was in and out after 15 minutes, finally dropping into bed with her face pressed into the pillow.
An arm snuck around her waist, gently pulling her closer. As Andy nuzzled her nose against the older woman’s throat, Miranda turned around. “I love you my darling.”, she murmured quietly, leaning forward to capture those haunting lips in a soft kiss. The younger woman smiled, placing her hand on her wife’s cheek. “I love you too.”, she answered, stealing another kiss from the gorgeous woman, who she called her wife.
Deep blue mixed with chocolate brown, their eyes totally focused on each other as they each got lost in the sight of their partner. “Do you think we should tell them?”, Miranda asked suddenly, slightly pulling back. Her fingers traced over her wife’s hipbone and up towards her abdomen. Drawing small circles on the soft skin of the younger woman’s belly, a smile lit up her face.
“I think we should wait a bit longer. What if it doesn’t work out again?”, Andy asked, her voice shaking slightly, making the older woman look up from where her hand was resting. “I’m absolutely certain that it’ll work out, but we’ll wait as long as you need.”, she replied, placing her hand on the cheek offered to her. Her fingertip caught the tear making it’s escape across flushed skin.
“But what if it doesn’t? What if it‘s gonna be like the last times?”, the brunette asked, now barely containing the sob threatening to break free. “Then we’ll find a way to work through it together. You know that I am always at your side my love.”, Miranda whispered softly, pulling her wife closer against herself. “I’m so grateful to have you.”, Andy chocked out, pressing herself further into the older woman’s chest.
The editors hand was running soothingly up and down her wife’s back, trying to calm the younger woman’s nerves. “We’ll tell them about their sibling at the right time.”, she murmured, pressing a kiss against the temple of the woman she loved with all her heart.
She knew this wasn’t easy for Andy but they’d work through this as best as they could and do everything in their power to keep their baby.
Running her fingers through brown locks of hair, she hummed a slow song, noticing with relief how her wife’s breath slowed down. Sneaking one hand back down to the brunettes belly, she felt the small smile against her throat, before drifting off into sleep shortly after her wife.
She had everything she had ever wanted and even more and soon they were going to have their own little miracle.
