Chapter Text
The family outing continued the same day. The group is having a fun time on the private island. Rafayel had dragged Caleb and Sylus into the water and had them play catch with the Lumerian. You, Xavier and Zayne watched the trio play in the water while enjoying a coconut drink and some fresh fruits.
You are in the middle of Zayne and Xavier, a coconut drink in your hand while you use your Evol to make the game more challenging. Your head is leaning on Zayne’s shoulder, making use of his cool air to keep yourself from melting by the hot sun.
“This is so relaxing. It’s a good thing you agreed on taking a day off today when you’re such a busy doctor. I appreciate that, Zaynie” you said while you nuzzle your head further into his side.
Your doctor’s lips curled upwards at your action, allowing his head to lean to yours. “Don’t mention it, darling. I would always spare my time for you”
“Even on busy weeks?”
“Even on busy weeks”
You smile widen at his words and lower your head to rest on your pressed knees, a distant look on your face. “You know, Zaynie, with all that has been happening, I’m starting to think something bad will happen to you”
The doctor stops mid-sip, his hand slightly gripping tighter around his drink. “What makes you say that?”
“Well, I just have this hunch, call it a snake hunch or something, and it’s telling me that you’re hiding something from me” you look him straight in the eyes. “You’re not hiding anything from me, right, Zayne?”
For a moment, you could swear you heard Zayne’s heart stopped a heartbeat. You look at his indifferent face, trying to see if your words have any effect on him.
It’s not like you don’t trust him, your doctor is a very honest person and he has proved that fact over the years you have been together but sometimes he can be very secretive about his pain or discomfort in order for you or the others to get worried which will only lead to more worry later on when they eventually finds out.
But before you could get any answer from him, a giant wave splashed you both right on the spot.
“What did I say about warning a girl ahead of something!”
“My bad, cutie! I was aiming for the old dragon but he redirected it to you!” Rafayel shouted from where he was while trying to aim another wave at Sylus.
“It’s not my fault you have a bad aim, fishie”
“Excuse you! I have a sharp eye thank you very much. Now stop moving around so much and face me like a man!”
You shake your head in amusement as the duo continue their friendly battle, completely forgetting Caleb who is now currently using his Evol to make a huge wave about 20 feet tall that fell directly on them.
“CALEB!”
Not wanting to miss out on the fun now that you’re soaking wet, you hurriedly stand up and join the trio on their little battle, leaving Zayne alone on the shore.
The doctor could only sigh in relief that you’re easily distracted from your question. It would only worry you further if you knew about his outburst last night.
A dry towel dropped onto his head and began to rub itself on his wet hair. The doctor’s body relaxes at the touch and slightly leans his body back.
Xavier works on drying the black hair in silence. His mind kept relaying back to the scene this morning. Zayne, his handsome doctor who always tries to save as many people as possible with his hands even when others have given up, laying motionless on the floor, frozen by his own Evol. It hurts him to know that he could’ve done something about it if only he had gotten up earlier and checked on the doctor sooner. Maybe if he did, his doctor won’t suffer that much. His doctor is too kind for this world.
Xavier’s head leaned forward to rest on the other’s head, inhaling the scent of frozen jasmine to reassure himself that the other is here and alive.
Zayne didn’t mind the extra weight on his head, knowing his lover is only worried about his well-being. If it was the other way around, he would also be worried to death about him.
They didn’t exchange any words for a few minutes, enjoying the sound of distant laughter of their other lovers and the waves crashing to the beach. The hunter moves first, his body moves lower until he’s sitting right behind the larger man, his hands wrapped around the middle, and pressing his body close to the other. He nuzzles his nose close to his nape, leaving gentle kiss trails on the skin.
The air became twice hotter for Zayne. He lets out a shaky breath, closing his eyes. His hand placed itself on the smaller’s hands, patting the hands in reassurance. The kisses stop, seemingly assured enough, and settle on nuzzling on his neck.
The doctor let himself smile, his body further relaxing to the body behind him. This is nice, letting himself be cared for by one of his lovers. Maybe he should tell you and the others about his Evol outburst and let them fuss over him. He never admits this out loud but he likes it when he’s the one being the center of concern. It’s a nice role reversal with all the time he’s the one concerning them.
He was so relaxed and deep in his thoughts that he didn’t hear the sound of footsteps coming from the sea and stepping on sand.
The others stop from where they are when they see the sight of Zayne, eyes closed and face relaxed, leaning most of his weight on Xavier. The blonde looked at them and put his index finger in front of lips. The others get the memo and tip-toe around the duo to get themselves dried and cleaned after a long water fight.
Once the others are out of sight, Xavier returns his attention to Zayne who has drifted to sleep some time in between. He changes his position a bit to make it more comfortable for his lover, carefully adjusting Zayne’s head to lean fully on his shoulder. The doctor frowned a little from the change of position, easing back to normal after the blonde whispered assuring words to his ears.
He stayed in that position for a while, enjoying the sight of the sun setting in the horizon and the sky changing colors into a color that is similar to one certain Lumerian’s eyes.
And as if said Lumerian can read his mind, familiar purple hair appears above him and looks down to him.
“It’s getting dark outside, we should let the doctor rest inside so he’s nice and warm,” Rafayel said while draping a blanket over Zayne’s body. “Should I carry him or you?”
“I’ll carry him” Xavier answered and began to wrap the blanket around the doctor, being careful as to not move the doctor too much. With careful hands, he lifts the wrapped doctor into his hands bridally.
“Alright, whatever suits you, bunny”. The artist trails behind the hunter as they walk inside the villa.
Inside the villa, Sylus is spread out on the large sofa with his phone in hand, typing with his thumb with a relaxed expression. You’re laying on your stomach on top of him, your phone also in hand, scrolling through a few posts your friends have given you.
“Finally deciding to come in, bunny?” Sylus said from his position. “Thought you’ll be there for the whole night and keep the doctor all to yourself”
Xavier ignores the dragon’s remark and continues to head to the master room. “I’m not that cruel, Sylus”
“Of course you’re not. Our bunny is too kind to do that”
“Alright, Sy. Don’t tease our bunny further, he looks ready to drop dead” you lightly punch your dragon in the chest to get his attention. Your dragon let out a low huff but followed your words and continued to scroll through his phone. “Don’t mind him, bunny, he’s just grumpy he hasn’t had his alone time with Zaynie”
“Don’t spread lies, sweetie”
“It’s not when I can read your desire like an open book”
Xavier didn’t hear the rest of the conversation as he had entered the master room, a large room where they will be sleeping together most of the time while they’re on the island, and put the sleeping doctor in the middle of the bed, tucking a blanket over the man. It’s a good thing the room is similar to their master room back home, it’s better if the doctor wakes up to a familiar surrounding.
He sat down on the edge of the bed, eyes never leaving his lover. He hopes that the doctor is having a good dream. He rarely opens up about his dreams, finding it unnecessary to share that irrelevant information. Well, he understands the feeling of not wanting to worry his lovers but he’s worried that if the other keeps his dreams to himself it will affect his mental state. If he’s bluntly honest, he would say that the mental state of each one of his lovers is messed up than what most humans can endure, not that his own mental state isn’t the same as theirs, one of the consequences of living too long.
The hunter sighs and lays on his side beside Zayne, making himself comfortable on the soft sheets as he feels his body growing tired. Looks like he still needs more rest afterall.
Without thinking, his body moves on its own and settles on the left side of Zayne, curling his body into a ball like a cat. He breathes in deeply the scent of jasmine before his eyes slowly close shut.

It’s cold. Is the night always this cold on the island? He doesn’t remember the room being this cold when he slept. Did someone open the window? But he feels no cold wind inside, only bone freezing cold. Is he having another episode again? Could his suppressor be acting up again?
He tries to move his body to seek the warmth of one of his lovers but he finds that his body won’t move, or more precisely, his body couldn’t move. It’s as if his whole body is…frozen?
From the distance, he can hear muffled voices of his lovers saying something. He tries to open his eyes to see what they are doing, using his strength to even move an inch of his eyelid. His vision is a blur of muted colors mushed together by mostly white, it kinda reminds of that one painting Rafayel ever showed them in one of his galleries. He wonders if that painting is inspired by this kind of sight, that would be both amazing and concerning.
“–breathing! He–”
“–outside with–”
“–melt down the–”
The voices grew louder with each passing minute. It seems that whatever is coating him, it must be ice considering how cold he feels right now, must be melting off him. His artist must be using his fire Evol to melt it, but he can’t tell for sure, the colors are still mushed together. He could only see a little purple, silver, and red, but he saw no hazel green…
Zayne had frozen him, didn’t he?
“Wha–Xavier, don't move yet! Your body is still frozen solid!”
“Zayne…” He managed to whisper, his voice barely audible to hear. “Where’s–”
Your hands caressed his face in a comforting hold, your thumbs gently rubbing under his eyes. “Zayne, he…ran off after he woke up but Caleb had chased him right after. He’ll be okay once Caleb catch up to him”
Xavier’s body instinctively relaxes under your touch, rubbing his face against your palms. That’s good at least, Caleb and Zayne are childhood best friends, they’ve known each other longer than any of them. If there’s someone who can get Zayne back, it’s Caleb. He trusts the Colonel to get the doctor back to them.
