Work Text:

The soft smell of flowers, the sweet scent of fresh whipped cream, that shin subin could almost taste on his tongue.

The chatting of his customers with their frappes and coffees on their table, it was another peaceful and quiet day at his job at a cafe.

It hasn't been that long since he started working as a barista at a local cafe since sei suggested it to him so they could have extra pocket money for when going out. I mean, it wasn't really needed since they won the lottery magically one day coincidentally right after their relatives stopped funding them with money. That much money could support them for a real good while since their still being payed yearly. Because of it, subin shin never had to work part time jobs to support him and his sister thankfully and he could focus on studying.

But, sei still suggested it to him apparently because he 'studies too much! ' her words, not his, and doesn't have any hobbies and that this was a good opportunity for him to relax and learn some good skills there, like making complicated frappe orders he could barely keep up with, or occasionally dealing with some iritating customers that just cause trouble in the shop, like for example, smoking inside the shop or those chaotic study groups who just mess around loudly instead of actually studying.

Though, how could he reject sei's offer with her cute puppy dog eyes that always manages to convince him to do whatever she wants for him? He won't admit it, but he does have a big soft spot for his little sister.

But, to his surprise, she was right! He did enjoy working there as he gained a new experience, the skill of making drinks, and even the skill of writing down complicated orders really fast.

As shin subin got ready for another day of making drinks, he adjusted his apron, fixed his black cap to hide his face more like he was a killer that would wait for you in a dark alleyway, he practically looked like he was going to a funeral with what he was wearing. He leaned on the counter, thinking to himself until the bell above the cafe door chimed.

A guy with slightly long brown hair with piercings on both of his ears, wearing a long brown coat with a black turtle neck underneath as well as black pants, and a face that could make thousands of girls fall to their knees, came in striding along like he owned the place. I mean—maybe he did?.. After chuckling while he was on the phone, a laugh that seemed like belonged to middle aged millionaire dudes.

"Hello.. May I take your order? " subin nodded, but a bit hesitantly.. Even after working here for a while his social skills were a bit still trash. Even after talking to him, the customer didn't even respond. Not even one bit of acknowledgement as he just kept talking to his phone like it was the most important person in his life.

".. May I take your order? " he said a bit iritatedly while glaring at him.

But then, the customer finally acknowledged him whipping his head around as their eyes met.

"Oh..! " he just grinned stupidly as he just shoved his phone into his pockets. Shouldn't he atleast say bye to whoever that was?

They just stared akwardly for a good 30 seconds, subin just not wanting to repeat what he said for the third time, frowning while the other just stupidly smiled until one finally broke the silence, finally.

"Hmm.. Wheres the girl?" He pointed to subin while looking around the place.

"You know... Dabin? Isnt this her shift? Now that I mention it, it's my first time seeing you around here, yeah? " he leaned on the counter while looking up and down on subin like he was sizing him up like a lion.  Subin decided to ignore that..

Dabin Kim, who worked longer here than subin did and she was the one who taught him around when he was still a newbie and would make a mess with the blenders and mess up orders. It's a bit embarrassing looking back on it, but oh well he needed to learn things around here. Dabin Kim was quiet, straight forward and direct, subin wouldnt admit it but he did look up to her—kinda. She had to give subin her shift since she had to take care of something with apparently her little sister.

"I had to take her shift today since she wasn't available. May I take your order..? " he said slightly desperate now to switch the topic and just take his order. Seemed like this guy was a regular of dabin's.

"Bummer." He frowned, clearly dissapointed.

"Well, anyway. I'm nam woori! I'm a regular of this.. Place. Nice to meet ya. " he winked as his face lit up instantly like he was never even dissapointed to begin with. Who the hell was this guy?

"And you must be.. Shin subin! " he pointed to his name tag that seemed like subin was trying to hide by shifting slightly but failed, sadly.

"Hmm.. Subin, huh? Would have better if you were a girl. " subin could feel his eye twitching as he made that remark. Was he making fun of him and his name?

"Sir, I don't want to ask again. May I take your order? Theres other people behind you. " he could feel his patience thinning as thin as the paper towels they give out in that place.

"Hm? Theres no one behind me, though.. " he looked behind him to see the air swooshing and he felt like he could see a tumbleweed? Rolling by. See? No line.

"Well, anyway!" He coughed, getting to the chase.

" get me a venti Java Chip Frappuccino with oat milk and extra ice, with two affogato shots and one blonde ristretto shot, three pumps of white mocha, two pumps of toffee nut, one pump of hazelnut, and a scoop of vanilla bean powder, light Java chips, no whipped cream on the bottom but extra whipped cream on top, caramel drizzle around the cup and mocha drizzle on top." surprisingly, he said it all in one breath. Was he a singer in his past life or something?

subin shin struggled to write it all down and he could swore a year was being taken off his lifetime as he wrote down a word.

"Name? "

"I already told you, didn't I? "

He sighed, writing the name 'nam woori' down as the obnoxious brown haired bastard walked away from the counter carefree like he didn't had a care in his life.

Since the order was stupidly ridiculously long, it took subin a stupidly ridiculously long time to finish the order as he called out his name .

Woori strided to the counter like a fashion model as their fingers touched briefly as he handed the drink to which he decided to ignore the feeling of.

Nam woori shot him a wink that could make him the leader of a kpop group if he wanted to as he greeted him goodbye with a "see ya. "

Subin waved him goodbye, yet not smiling as he's just glad to himself he won't see him again after this shift, their way to different for each other, like oil and water. Except subin was the water because- nevermind that.

Subin leaned on the counter, scoffing to himself. That guy must have had a great life, fed with a silver spoon and surrounded by lots of people because of his social butterflyness.. He hates those kinds of people. Obnoxious and thinks that the whole world revolves around them, getting whatever they want. No use of thinking about it now since somebody just puked in the restroom and walked out with toilet paper on their shoes ignoring the mess they made.

As subin grabbed the mop and his dignity, he adjusted his cap while still thinking of that weird nam woori guy.
