Chapter 1: Home

Chapter Text

The cold of the snow was the first thing the redhead felt as she regained some of her senses. The pain in her bones was the second; it had spread throughout her body. But she couldn't care less; the only thing on her mind were her children, Tommy and Billy.

She had accepted her fate, she had sacrificed herself to save another's life. But the simple fact of facing that she would never see her noneexistent… children again, was painful.

She should be dead.

Likewise, she felt it, she didn't quite know what, but it was strong. A strength so similar to her own.

Perhaps, just perhaps, she would finally have managed to find a universe within it where she could be with them. To be alive.

Her steps were shaky, holding her arms as she walked towards that force. She began to analyze her surroundings with her blurred gaze that started to recover, but the discovery was interrupted by the pain, she was weak. And even if she wasn't in her best senses, she knew she was gonna fall any second.

A light in the distance, a cabin, the force began to torment her, it was close.

Eleven sat watching television, but none of the channels appealed to her; everything was boring. So she changed the channels with a tilt of her head. It's not like she was paying much attention to it; it wasn't that long ago that Hopper let her into his cabin, she recently started to have a "home." She recently lost her friends. It was a lot.

Talking about Rome, Hopper wasn't at home at that hour, he was working at the station, or with Joyce and Will. She didn't know, she was just waiting so she could eat Eggos finally.

Suddenly, she heard movement outside; it could be the squirrels, but with the cold weather, none of them came out, especially not at this time of night.

The next thing she heard was something like a gunshot, the wires.

She stood up from the sofa, leaving her teddy bear on it.

“...”

El turned off all the lights, looking through the window. She squinted slightly, was that a woman on the ground? And she was dressed weird.

The brunette turned to the machine he used to communicate with Hopper and returned to the window. The rules.

Always keep the curtains drawn,

only open the door if you hear his secret knock,

never go out alone.

But there was something weird with this person. A faint red light flooded the snow surrounding her. Did she have something to do with the Upside Down? And what if it was a trap? She's not someone who helps people just for the sake of it, but there was something that drew her to open the door.

Thinking too much wasn't one of her virtues when it came to opening that door.

She didn't know how she lifted that woman and got her to get inside, on the floor obviously because she didn't have much force to lift her up on the couch. If she did that, there would be two people fainted.

7:10 pm, Wanda's eyes started to open. The first thing she saw was an old roof, and the smell of wood and coffee started to come to her nose. It wasn't cold anymore.

When she finally had the force to move her head, she looked down, an old plaid blanket surrounding her. She didn't understand, she couldn't remember anything yet, just the pleasure of not being in the cold anymore.

Her eyes moved to the left. There was a couch, it was giving her the back so she couldn't see who was there, the only thing she could see was the TV in front of it playing Frankenstein.

“Hello..?” She said with a low voice. She felt like she didn't talk in years.

The person in the couch quickly turned off the TV, but stayed silent.

Wanda furrowed her eyebrows, it was all still too confusing, and everything was spinning.

She stood up, well, sat up, the stood up, walking towards the couch, all hurt.

She could finally see the person in the couch, it was… A kid? A girl, short, curly hair, she could almost have thought it was Billy.

“Pain.” The girl said, turning to her. She said it so forward but looked like she was on alert.

“Excuse me?” The redhead asked, she was already confused come on.

“You have pain. You should lay down.”

“I…” She tilted her head “What am I doing here?”

The brunette furrowed her eyebrows “Fainted, outisde. I brought you here." The brunette turned to the window and back at her “Red”

Wanda turned to the window, she saw the snow and started to remember. All the memories. The force.

She looked down at her clothes, god… She still had the dress of the Scarlet Witch.

“Uhm… Do you have any clothes before we continue talking about this?”

Wanda sat down on the couch closer to the TV, wearing clothes too big for her, the girl's clothes didn't fit her so the only option was giving her Hopper's clothes.

“Talk.” The girl said out of nowhere, looking directly at her.

“Uh. Hey, I'm Wanda. You?” She lifted her eyebrows. This kid was weird. But what else can you do after a strange woman appears on your yard?

“...El.”

“El?”

She didn't say more. So Wanda just nodded, she wasn't gonna push her if she didn't want to.

“So…” She looked towards the wall behind El, and to the side. Looking at the furniture, or this place was stuck in time, or this was a different time. “What year is it?”

“One nine eight four”

“Eighties…” She sighed. Looking down at her hands. “Okay, so. Hear me here. I can see you don't trust me, and I understand. But, as strange as it may sound… I'm not from here.”

That took El's attention.

“I'm from another universe, far, far away. I'm a… I'm like a witch.” Silence “And I sound completely out of my mind right now with you and I'm sorry for that.”

“You're not with Papa..?”

“Who?”

“...” El looked away, thinking, and after some seconds she turned back at her “Powers. You have powers. Show them.”

Wanda looked down at her hands.

What was happening? She couldn't…

“I'm weak…” She turned to the coffee table in front of them, more specifically, a book on top of it. She gestured it with her palm.

Exhaustion. She couldn't, she couldn't do any more; she used all her strength to at least get that book off the table with a weak red light.

“...Red.”

“Mhm, I still got it”

Before El could grab her sleeve and say something more, she stopped, both stopped at the sudden noise outside the door.
