Summary:

Your friends/acquaintances are great people, true heroes. Unlike you. Why do they want you to stay?
BYI: reader has AVPD/severe social anxiety, CWs will be in the notes for each chapter, characters and relationships will be added as they appear
Frizen until further notice

Notes:

I am trying to write a reader with AVPD/severe social anxiety, but as I'm using my own experience as an example, i might accidentally give them symptoms of ADHD and/or STPD
They used to be socially isolated and bullied, came to Megapolis and currently a part-time deliveryperson at Pigsy's. Other than that their backstory is purposefully vague
Reader doesn't appear in the main plot mostly, but their story goes alongside them, so they mainly interact with background characters (Syntax, Mayor during season 1, Jin and Yin, etc.), but they do have relationships with the main cast, even if they get less attention
English isn't my first language and I suck at writing
Chapters will be polished and edited after i posted them (because i won't post them at all if i don't do it like that), so i recommend reading only a couple hours or a day after one was published (also please notify me of plot holes i beg you i can just forget them)
This work is impulsive and a product of my fixation so it will probably switch between being frozen and active
That's it, i think

Chapter 1: once upon a day

CW: suicidal ideation mentioned once

Chapter Text

Despite all the noise, the Megapolis is a surprisingly peaceful place. Probably, maintaining order is very important when you are one of the most popular cities among tourists. Children are playing quietly on the street, people are getting married and divorced, life is going smoothly. Although, in your case, it would be more accurate to say that life is passing by you smoothly.

Your life is a quiet routine that doesn't bother you with great joys or terrible tragedies. Wake up at 8 a.m., put yourself in order, do your job, rest and go to bed. And so it is every day.. Still, you'd rather do that than the hole that is commonly referred to as "friendly behavior" and "a good social life." You've tried it, you didn't like it, and you don't think it likes you either.. It's better to not think about it too much, the abandoned construction site a couple kilometers away from work starts to look very tempting when you do it.

Your job is exactly what you were doing at the moment. You have 1 delivery left, after which you can take a break – unless, of course, the MK has managed to get into some kind of trouble and you'll have to get him out again. The wheels of your scooter turn quietly and take you along a road that is much less crowded than the center. You take your eyes off the road and look at the navigator on your phone. Turn left.

Another couple hundred meters pass in silence and tranquility. When you reach your destination, you carefully place the scooter on the asphalt before walking quietly to the door. It seems like there are people in the house.. Okay, good, probably. Carefully, to not make it fall over, you place a pack of noodles in a bag on the stairs in front of the door before knocking and running back. You watch a person come out and take the order before driving a small distance and checking your phone. Pigsy's message, just a minute ago.

- Do you still have the keys to the back door?

It looks like you'll have to wait for the context.

- yep

he doesn't need more from you, probably.

- Good. Leave the delivery bag on one of the tables and you can go home, we're closing early today.

The apocalypse has arrived and you missed it, great.

The trip back didn't take long and you quickly found yourself at the store. There is a huge figure in the distance.. of a bull(?) Well, a bull with a humanoid body. You don't get paid to care about the end of the world, so you leave the scooter and go to the back. Key in the lock, 2 counterclockwise turns, go into the dark hall. Wearing this crap has never been comfortable, but at least it's not as big as the one in the tuk tuk.

"I don't think your boss will be happy that you're letting strangers in like this." You are startled by a sudden voice from behind, and the bag almost falls to the floor, fortunately it is standing. You look at a stranger over your shoulder and see some man in a suit, white strands standing out amongst the black ones, a smile on his face.

"Well. I didn't expect someone to just brazenly enter a dark, unknown room." In response, his smile twitches slightly, reaching his eyes for a second before becoming as lifeless as before.

"Yes, but you do know what kind of people are hiding in the crowd of ordinary people." He takes a step forward, and you squat slightly, preparing to run.

"If you're going to kill me, please do it outside." You don't know if this is your very witty joke, or a genuine request.

"Oh, of course not! I just want to talk!" Another step, you back away. There's an awkward pause. You're holding eye contact with him, trying to find anything in his completely white eyes. You can tell he's looking straight at you, even though it should be impossible.

"..Yeah. Only outside." You curl into yourself slightly, he hums in agreement and leaves the building. You breathe a sigh of relief before following him, locking the door at the same time. The sun was no longer so high and cast a pleasant shadow on the stairs by the door. While the unknown man got up a flight of stairs, now standing and enjoying the light wind (at least it looked like it), you sat down next to him on the steps.

"You said you wanted to talk, right?" You get his attention back to you successfully, his head quickly turning in your direction.

"Yes! This is a very important conversation." He turns to you completely, leaning on the railing with the side of his torso.

"You see, your coworker, MK, is now fulfilling his destiny of becoming a.. hero." The last word is said with some dislike, but you're more interested in what he's leading to.

"Today, he will defeat his first opponent, the Demon Bull King. This will be one of his many victories, but they will all inevitably lead to pain." He continues before leaning slightly towards you.

"But we can stop it. If you help me, we can create a world free of suffering." It both interested and alarmed you. No matter how tempting such an idea is, no one ever desires pure goodness.

"And... why should I believe you?" At this, he chuckles slightly and stands back up to his full height, muttering something under his breath before starting to speak at a normal volume.

"As I said, he will defeat DBK today. In a couple of weeks after that, I will bring MK a special key that Red Son, DBK's son, will steal. Once that happens, fate will bring you to me."

"And that's going to be proof that you're telling the truth?" You wanted to say that this would prove that he sees the future, but not the honesty of his intentions, but you decided to keep silent. If anything happens, you can always help others with useful information.

He nods at your question before looking into the distance, his smile becomes more strained as he squints, clear look of distain on his face.

"The days of this terrible world are numbered." You look at what he's looking at. It looks like that bull, probably DBK, got stronger. If what the man said is true, then you would really like MK to hurry up. The stranger looks back at you, his smile showing no feelings once more.

"Goodbye for now, [NAME]!" He jumps over the railing before disappearing into the blue smoke. You didn't tell him your name. This is probably something to expect from a paranormal predictor of the future.

For a bit you watch as the King destroys the city. It would've been fascinating if the way he just tramples on buildings wasn't so tasteless. Is there some kind of golden light breaking this picture before the battle begins? You can't see clearly, the distance is quite large, but you clearly see someone, most likely MK, cutting something in half, intending to imprison the bull under it, but he breaks free. This does not end the duel, as the MK makes some kind of red mech(?) and defeats him. You would have clapped for him, but he wouldn't hear it from here.

After about 30 minutes, he, along with Pigsy, Tang, Mei, and some huge blue man drive up to the store and you wave at them as you walk up to the front entrance. You have no idea how they all managed to get in the tuk tuk, especially that blue but you decided not to ask any questions. The MK is the first to get out of it, and he instantly crush you in a hug.

"[NAME]!! Alive, you're alive! I was so afraid that DBK stomped you to death!" He cries and squeezes you tightly, and you pull out one of your hands to stroke his back. Pigsy comes out after him, ready to pull MK away from you, but you wave him away and he sighs wearily.

"I'm glad to see you too.. Congratulations." You move slightly, and let the pig open the door. MK slowly lets you go, still holding you by the shoulders, and takes a step back. He looks tired but happy.

"Want me to get you some soda? My treat." You take off his hands and step away, to which he smiles brightly and nods.

The rest of the day passes quietly. They chat and relax after the incident, and you catch the fact that MK met the Monkey King and became his protégé, being able to use his staff, the others helped him. They are, unlike you, good people, and you can't help but let your thoughts return to the words of the man in the suit. Maybe he was being honest. Maybe you can make a better world for them.

Notes:

If you, somehow, remember the pointless stairs near MKs window, they now make sense and are a shortcut to 2 floors above Pigsy's Noodles
