Privacy, a Luxury

Summary:

Dating Caine is wonderful. I mean, you wouldn’t be dating him if it wasn’t! It’s just that…
He doesn’t really understand how important privacy is.

Notes:

Anon on tumblr requested Caine x Reader but didn’t put any specific details so I decided to wing it yay!
I wrote this with human Caine and human Reader in mind but I don’t describe either of you so feel free to kiss those teeth if you want!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Privacy had become a luxury since you started dating Caine. It felt like anywhere you went, Caine had to follow you there. It wasn’t in a manipulative or concerning way, but it still happened.

One of the most obvious examples of this was actually occurring right now.

Despite not really having anywhere to be or anyone to impress, you’d made it a habit to try and take care of yourself just for you. That means changing clothes daily when you previously brushed it off, which you are attempting to do!

You’re sure it’d be a lot easier to focus on that if you weren’t so busy trying to push Caine out of your room.

“I just don’t understand why it matters so much!” He says, not quite getting the hint to start moving his ass as you try to guide him out of your room, “It’s nothing I haven’t seen anyways!”

If it weren’t so annoying at the moment, you probably would’ve laughed at him, maybe you’d have even found it charming. Caine was right, of course; he'd seen pretty much everything, so from his point of view, this was unnecessary.

“It’s just the principle of it, Caine…” You let out a long sigh, your hands on his shoulders as you attempt to walk him towards the door.

“What principle?” He asks, basically a brick wall.

Oh this man… He is so lucky he’s such a sweet guy, otherwise you might’ve just thrown him out. You suck a deep breath in, hold it for a few seconds, then you let it out, reminding yourself that he needs patience. It’s not his fault he doesn’t get it.

You stop your attempts at pushing him out, they were futile anyways. Instead, you opt for a gentler approach and take both of his hands, holding them together in your own.

“So… You remember what I said about how you have to knock before you come into my room, yeah?” You ask, wanting to get a baseline for how much you’ll have to explain.

As expected, Caine nods with a proud smile, “Of course I do! I’d never forget any of my beautiful partner’s boundaries!” You doubt that, but it gets a smile from you nonetheless. He’s so cute when he needs to be.

“Amazing,” You respond, “This is just another one of those, Caine; a boundary.”

He lets out a small hum at that and for a moment you think he may let it go. It was a foolish thing to hope for and you know that. You know him too well to fully believe he’d drop something with zero questions afterwards.

“Why?” He asks. It’s a simple question, one you’re happy to answer after all the silly questions he’s asked in the past.

“Well… It’s embarrassing for most people. Getting changed in front of other people can feel weird because a lot of us aren’t used to it. It’s a matter of privacy.” That’s just what you think though. You’re sure there’s plenty of people out there that don’t care at all.

He stares at you for a moment after that, his expression morphing into one of sadness. “Why are you embarrassed? I like the way you look!” He insists, trying to help with an insecurity you weren’t even worried about at the moment.

Aw… That little compliment absolved him of all his guilt. He can be so sweet you forget to be mad at him.

“Not that kind of embarrassment, Caine…” You chuckle, squeezing his hands. “I’m not sure how to explain it, but, uh, it’s got something to do with social norms.”

“Ah,” He mutters, “So… You’re okay? It’s not a bad thing?”

“Yes, Caine, I’m okay.” You nod. “Do you get it now?”

He beams at you, “I do! Oh, you are so good at explaining things, my dear!” He giggles, slipping a hand away from yours to pinch your cheek.

“Thank you, sweetheart.” You say, amused. His laughter was so contagious.

“Does that mean I can stay then?”

“Nope, get out.”
