Work Text:
In hears Thap come through the front door. He listens to the familiar sounds of Thap toeing off his shoes and dropping his keys in the dish with a clatter. He knows that Thap is hanging his jacket on the hook next to the door, and unpacking his bag dutifully, setting his dirty container lunch in the sink. In waits for Thap to call his name, as he always does after he’s done rinsing out his dishes.
“In?” Thap’s voice drifts up the stairs, and In can picture him so clearly. He’s unbuttoning the cuffs of his shirt and loosening his tie as he walks up the stairs. “In? Are you home?”
In stifles a laugh at the questioning tone, not wanting to give himself away. He curls further into himself, hugging his knees close.
“In?” The question in Thap’s voice has bled into worry, and In moves before his boyfriend starts to spiral.
He pokes his head around the corner in time to see In crest the stairs, his shirt unbuttoned as predicted and his face worried. “Welcome home!” In exclaims in a chipper voice, a huge smile on his face.
Thap jumps about a foot in the air, pressing a hand to his chest as he whirls around. In almost falls over laughing, his elbows buckling with the force of it.
“What are you doing?!” Thap asks, voice loud with residual adrenaline.
“Waiting for you,” In says, laughs still bubbling out of his mouth.
“In a…?” Thap squints, tilting his head as he takes in the scene in front of him.
“I made a pillow fort.” Duh.
“I see that,” Thap says, a fond smirk In knows well forming on his mouth. It’s crooked, completely at odds with how straight Thap typically carries himself, and it never fails to delight In. “What’s the structural integrity like on this bad boy?” Thap asks, gently slapping one of the cushions.
“Oh, it’s very strong! Would you like a tour?” In scoots back into the entrance of the fort, making room for Thap in the, admittedly pretty tiny, space.
Thap groans a bit as he squats down, and In stifles another laugh. Old man.
“This is the entry way,” In says, gesturing to the area propped up by couch cushions. “And over here—”
The roof shakes as Thap’s elbow nudges one of the load-bearing walls.
“Careful!” In cries, steadying the wall with a reproachful look shot Thap’s way. “It’s a very delicate ecosystem in here, I can’t have you coming in and destroying it.”
Thap holds up his hands in surrender. “I do apologize,” he says, solemn and apologetic.
“I’ll forgive you,” In says, “but don’t let it happen again.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” Thap swears, holding up his pinky.
Content, In wraps his pinky around Thap’s and seals the promise with a kiss.
“So,” Thap says with a smirk, reclining against the bottom of the couch — a more sturdy portion of the building. “Are you looking for a roommate?”
