Work Text:
This is where Mok is happiest. He loved his job, working with and protecting Khun Thee, loved feeling needed and necessary, but getting to have the freedom to be with Rome whenever he’s able, no longer beholden to to Thee’s schedule, is utter bliss.
There’s no threats, no danger — at least not that he has to worry about. There are bodyguards here whose express purposes are keeping them all safe — Mok included. The only things Mok is specifically responsible for at the seaside villa are trying to relax, taking mid-afternoon naps, and swimming in the ocean. Well, all that plus Rome’s happiness, which Mok never considers a job.
Rome is the only reason Mok is here in the first place. Rome, who only gets this one week of vacation a year for his birthday, and chooses to spend it here with Mok. Rome, who is currently sitting on the windowsill in their room, backlit by the sunset.
He’s glowing in the red-orange light, and Mok’s pretty sure he’s the most beautiful thing Mok has ever seen. He pauses just to look, to observe without Rome noticing and getting flustered. Although, Rome’s bluish is one of Mok’s favourite sights, so it would have been worth it. The dinner in Mok’s hands is forgotten as he watches Rome lean his head back against the window frame, eyes closed, hair fluffy and unstyled. A familiar warm feeling starts building in Mok’s chest.
He loves the man in front of him. So much, he feels a little crazy with it. Mok isn’t used to feeling out of control, but Rome makes him feel wild. It’s absurd, that Mok is the only one who gets to see Rome like this. He doesn’t feel worthy of the opportunity he’s been given, and he reminds himself every day just how lucky he is.
As if sensing his thoughts, Rome opens his eyes, turns his head, and smiles. “How long are you planning on watching me for?” There’s a soft look on his face that only makes the warm feeling in Mok’s chest burn brighter.
Forever, Mok thinks, but doesn’t say. Instead, he shrugs and tries to ignore the blush he can feel rising in his cheeks. “May I join you?” he asks, padding forward quietly, holding out dinner.
Rome nods, swinging his legs over the sill, letting them swing against the wall of the villa. Normally, Mok would tell him to be careful, but the balcony is only a few feet below them. Mok sits next to Rome and hands him a plate of shrimp and rice.
“Did Phi make this?” Rome asks, eyeing the slightly charred shrimp suspiciously.
“Yes, but I made sure it’s cooked and not just burnt,” Mok promises, taking the shrimp from Rome’s plate and working on peeling them.
Rome watches, shoulders dancing a bit when Mok deposits the peeled shrimp onto his plate. Adorable.
Hopelessly in love, Mok leans in and presses an exaggerated kiss to Rome’s cheek, just because he can.
