Summary
Nicholas believes that moving to a new city and starting over from nothing might quiet the parts of himself that have felt unfamiliar since his brain injury. And in some ways, it does.
But there are nights when that sense of ease does not come from the city or from anything he has built for himself there. It comes from the painter across the balcony, whose presence begins to feel like the one thing that reach him where his own mind cannot.
