Rays of sun crawled up from the horizon like zombies from a grave. Bright yellows, reds, and purples painted the sky as light gale flowed through London, under soaring birds feathers, and into small cracks in windows with just enough force to sway curtains in the wind.
With the sound of metal hooks that hung the curtain swished shut, Tina marched back over to her full length mirror to check her outfit one last time. She wore purple boots, cargo shorts, and purple tanktop with long lighter purple sleeves paired with her classic purple bow.
With a quick nod of approval and running a hand through her wavy hair, Tina turned on her heel and finally rushed to leave.
Keys jingled at the sudden movement of being quickly grabbed and shoved into a pocket.
Tina grabbed her leather wallet as well before she rushed out of his apartment, slamming the door behind herself, and locked it in a hurry before walking down creaking wooden steps that
descended to the apartment lobby with haste. She was already late to meet up with her friends in the north and really didn’t want to be late for the tube.
With an awkward squeak of rusted hinges, the door leading from the apartment lobby to outside opened and the blinding sun hit Tina’s retinas which caused her to blink and adjust to the sudden light when stepping out the apartment building. Gale rushed through her hair along with
the smell of fresh fruits and the sight of bustling streets.
Tina didn’t care to enjoy the moment
while it was, for she was in a hurry and couldn’t miss her train.
“Excuse me, pardon, my bad-”
Tina mumbled to the strangers as she basically pushed past them in an attempt to be polite as she made her way down stairs and into the underground station.
Rails squealed when the tube slowed and the “mind the gap” message spoke through speakers from afar, signalling the tube had made it to its stop and was now letting people off the train and letting new people board it.
After greeting the conductor of the train with a quick smile before letting them scan her ticket and then walking down the aisle of chairs, Tina finally found a seat.
When exhaling shortly in relief to herself, Tina looked around at the rows of chairs lining the walls of the train, noticing how old it looked.
Beeping and creaking metal of heavy doors shutting indicated the train's departure right after the last person had stepped onto the train. A person who Tina swore she knew caught her eye. The stranger–who was a woman–sat directly across from Tina without a care in the world and didn’t even break a sweat at the fact she was almost left behind by the tube.
Tina shook her head to herself in disbelief or admiration before she ran a hand through her hair, wanting to fix it from the winds outside even if her hair looked perfectly fine.
The train screeched loudly on its rails before it had finally started to move. Tina buckled in her seatbelt with a soft click and checked her surroundings. As she did so, Tina caught the woman across from her looking at her which made Tina’s heart stop for a moment and quickly look away with reddened ears.
Was it fate they collided right then and there?
With Tina’s quick look back at the stranger as to not be rude, she noticed the woman wore a bold pink suit with casual deeper pink accents on that warm spring day, paired with beat up white boots, gold jewelry, and gold and light purple sunglasses.
Tina would be lying if she said the stranger didn't look like an absolute angel.
Minutes passed as Tina fumbled with her phone and pretended to text her friends even though her phone wasn’t even on as she was lost in thought and weighing the options of talking to the Beautiful woman in front of her, not wanting to miss this moment out of a fairytale.
Tina stole another quick glance at the woman sitting across from her reading a newspaper between her thumb, pointer, and middle finger with her navy blue eyes, forehead, and ginger hair pulled back into a messy bun with front strands hanging out peeking over top but focused on the words.
The stranger's eyes flicked up at Tina after sensing eyes peering at her and after a moment they wrinkled at the corners, which could’ve only meant that she had smiled at Tina.
Tina’s eyes quickly darted away from the woman in embarrassment, her eyes landing on a window and noticed how gorgeous the nature outside was while the train moved. A stark contrast of the inside of the train.
Leaves were bright green along with the grass and vibrant flowers bloomed in this late spring But the sight did not last for long, for it was interrupted by a stranger shimmying past others and ended up standing right in front of the window, making Tina huff in disappointment and turn her attention elsewhere on the train that stunk of sweat and cheap perfume, wondering what the angel Infront if her must be like.
The tube quickly saved her as it came to a slow stop and its heavy metal doors opened, the “mind the gap” message playing through speakers once again. It was time for Tina to get off her stop at The north.
With a grunt, Tina stood up and looked one last glance at the beautiful stranger, meeting her gaze before losing herself in the flood of people trying to get off the tube.
Wind and regret instantly slapped her in the face when she stepped off the train, wanting to almost go back in and exchange words with the woman. Maybe Tina could’ve even known her name.
The sun glared into Tina's eyes once again after she walked out of the shaded trainstation, but the only thing on her swirling mind was the possibility and wonder if the angel she sat across from felt the same way too.
A buzz rang from Tina's phone, causing her to slow her stride and pull her phone out of her pocket. Tina typed in his password and clicked on the messages app, seeing she got texts
from her friends.
10:32AM
Juan: Remember to look for the very very very big mansion. Everyone thinks you’re lost.
Tina: 10 mins.
With her quick reply, Tina turned off her phone and shoved it back into her pocket.
Her steps quickened with haste up the wooden steps despite her lack of care if she was fashionably late or not, her brain still stuck on the beautiful stranger.
What if she stayed on the train? What if she stood up and sat next to the woman to ask for her name? What if they had become friends? Maybe more?
A train of what-if’s flowed through Tina's mind causing her regret of getting off the tube as if it was eating her alive. But the beautiful stranger would have to remain, at least until Tina hopefully saw her again.
The train of thoughts in Tina's brain faltered when she finally ended up at the north.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beams of light radiating from the sun that still hung high in the cloudless sky shone onto the house that Tina stood before.
Tina sauntered up the concrete steps and gripped onto the cold metal railing for balance before finally standing in front of aforesaid the very big mansion doors, raising her hand and knocking loudly.
After a few knocks the wooden doors swung open with a creak from its rusty hinges and friends immediately greeted Tina.
“Oh my god hi!”
Spider exclaimed.
“Finally you're here!"
Ishan added on.
“We thought you got lost-”
Foolish spoke with a chuckle after.
“Dude, come in!”
Juan finally said, cutting off Foolish despite more piles of questions and exclamations berated Tina's ears and she couldn't help but smile
brightly and nod,
“You guys are soo dramatic.”
Tina responded jokingly and hugged back her friends excitedly as they ushered her into their home and the smell of cookies wafted by.
Conversation ensued as Tina kneeled and took off her boots quickly and left them by the front door with the rest of the pile of shoes. Tina stood up quickly and caught up with her friends walking to the kitchen to meet Roier and Quackity baking chocolate chip cookies.
Running a hand through her hair, Tina sat on a cold granite countertop while jokes in the kitchen were told and eruptions of laughter followed soon after.
She couldn't help but stare off into space, for in the back of Tina's mind all she could think about was the regret of leaving her love that came and left with that train.
And the regret of being too late for her beautiful stranger…
Her angel.
