Summary
In May 1984, Billy is induced to take Max to see "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". He doesn't expect to like it, and he doesn't, but he forms a weird, sentimental attachment to one character anyway: singing, screaming nightclub singer Willie Scott. He'd take the time to unpack this, but his life is pretty quickly uprooted, and their nightmare of a blended family gets transplanted to dusty Hawkins, Indiana (no relation): the Malaise Capital of the Midwest.
The move to Hawkins forces Billy to face some things he'd sooner ignore. Why he's so rankled by swaggering Big Man on Campus "King" Steve Harrington, why his erstwhile sister's new friends put him on edge so much, and why his two-person fanclub...certified gossipy snipe Carol Perkins and freckled pint-sized hellion Tommy Hagan can't seem to get enough of him.
It's slower here, emptier, and with no shortage of time to think about the things that made him what he was and the things keeping him from becoming whoever it is he's supposed to be...whatever those are.

Summary
Gary died from that fall. Jimmy might have made it, but poor Gary didn't make the cut. That's what everybody knew.
That fact is challenged when Petey decides to visit his ex-friend's grave and it sounds like Gary's in there calling out to him.

When Pete wrote the letter, he wasn't expecting anything to come from it. He left the name blank, it was just meant to clear his conscious and let him move on. Jimmy didn't even care about receiving things like that.
So why is he suddenly bringing it up two days later?
Suddenly feeling like he's under interrogation, Pete snaps under the pressure.
