Work Text:

"God, why won't this work?!"

An exasperated groan echoed throughout the ship whilst red lights flashes in a blinding sequence. Kit clutched levers, clicked patterns, smashed buttons, anything she could do to stop from crashing. To her dismay, nothing seemed to work. She yelped out in frustration, "This is just a plain waste of time! Kaboodle," Kit called out for her robot companion, clearly at her wits end from this seemingly impossible puzzle.

"Have you got any idea on how to fix this damn thing? It won't stop flashing, 'emergency, emergency'," Kit mocked the message with a hint of sarcasm, clearly unbothered by the alert.

Kaboodle glanced at the panel, then at the message, and his face dropped slightly.

"Did you.. Did you remember to replace the engine after we crashed yesterday..?," he asked cautiously, his voice steady and unamused, though there was a slight hint of urgency laced into his tone.

Kit hesitated, thinking about why that would matter. Surely, the engine would be fine, wouldnt-

boom pow wow aaaaa

"..FUCK"

Suddenly, almost on queue, a deafening explosion pierced through the ship, ripping it in half. Kit yelled frantically, looking for Kaboodle, looking for Gobbles, looking for anyone who could catch her before she could fall any further away from the ship aflame above her.

Kit ripped through the air at rapid sucession, panic seeping in as she fell further and further into the unfamiliar vast space of the Gameoverse. Getting larger, and larger, was a small planet- well, as of right then, in her perspective, a small planet. With little to no time to think, she grasped at the air, attempting to bring herself closer to the, now larger, planet.

Plummeting closer and closer.

And closer.

...

Kit blinked open her heavy eyes, her vision blurred. Her head pounded in pain, and her whole body ached from the impact of the fall. She was grateful that she took a powerup earlier, otherwise she would not have survived that fall. Kit had no idea where anyone was, nor where the heck she was. Shaking legs, she pulled herself onto her feet, examining her surroundings with a profound vision.

Though, there was not much to examine. A barrren wasteland surrounded her. Cold, foggy, with no signs of life nearby. Kit shook her head around, looking for anyone, or anything. "..Kaboodle...?", she called out, her voice a cautious whisper incase she attracted unwanted attention on the off chance there could be a threat nearby. "Gobbles..?" The thick fog that surrounded her had her on edge, her gut was screaming at her to leave.

She wavered for a moment, before yelling out, louder this time. "Kabood-". She cut herself off as her ears flickered to the left. She heard footsteps approaching, not rapidly, yet also not hesitant. As though whoever or whatever was approaching knew she was there.

Kit whipped her tail, her stance low to the ground and stiff, prepared for anything to pop out and ambush her from the mist. The footsteps grew louder, and closer, until they paused fully. Kit regained a bit of height, straightening up slightly from the inconsistent pace the threat carried.

"Who's there, huh? Come out and fight me if you have the balls to," Kit exclaimed into the fog, her voice seemingly egotisfical and cocky, though a slight tremor underlined it. Movement caught her eye from her right, and before she could fully spin around to face it, she was knocked back onto the floor. Kit scrambled up, completely taken off guard, even thiugh she was ready for an attack. Composing herself, she lifted her head with a defensive growl.

"You..?"

Staring back at her with a glare of ice was the same blonde woman she had faced just the day prior. She was built well, lean, toned muscles down her arms and her clothes fitting seamlessly around her curvacious figure. "You're the wannabe hero recon, correct?," she snapped, her tone unnaturally cold for a woman so beautiful.

"Who are you?", Kit hissed, pinning her ears back as she locked her gaze with the blonde womans'. "Miss Information to you, Kitty," she spat, her voice dripping with a tone Kit couldnt quite place, "You sabotaged our ship, and you will pay for that, pretty." Kit tilted her head. What was this Miss.. Whatever her name was, talking about? They hadnt done anything to mess with their ship. Heck, Kit didnt even know what the ship looked like. Plus, did she just call Kit pretty?

Kit whipped herself up from the floor, yet again, this time swifter and angrier than she was before. This woman clearly wanted a foght, and Kit would give that to her, gladly. She pounced foreward, her paws making her glide swiftly towards her agressor. Kit landed a clean hit against Miss Information before she could dodge it with sucess. Miss Information growled in an animal like manner out of frustration, while Kit went for her legs to take her down. Leaping foreward before that could happen, Miss Information grabbed Kit's tail and yanked it foreward, earning a loud shriek from the cat.

Kit hissed angrily, her patience thin. Spinning around, Kit landed multiple hits towards the blonde, dodging most returned attacks. Wanting to wrap this usless catfight up, while also wanting to win it for her ego, Kit swung a final blow towards Miss Information, knocking her clean out a few metres away. The woman sprawled onto the floor apart from Kit, who was panting like a dog. "Did you prove your point yet?", Kit mocked. Getting no response was enough of an ego boost to satisfy her pride. Shakimg her head, a gleam in the distance caught her eye. A metal pipe bent. The fog had cleared a signifigent amount, which Kit had not noticed. Observing her surroundings, her heart dropped to her stomach as she realized where they were. "I thought it.. deleted." she muttered in disbelief, her heart pounding. Tears pooled in her eyes as she couldnt control her emotions. They were in her old village.

The village in a medium distance, was monochromic and quite frankly depressing. Houses glitched out, the walls twitching every now and then. Seeing her home in such a state brought back a flood of unwanted memories. Kit felt as though she was back experiencing it for the first time. She hadn't even realized she dropped to her knees until a hand was placed on her shoulder. "Do you.. know this place?," the woman beside her asked hesitantly, not looking at Kit directly, instead seeming to address the wreckage of the sight infromt of them. Kit didn't answer, figuring her silence would be enough of an answer for Miss. Miss didnt push any further. "I had a home too. A game. I wasnt the hero, I was a side character," Miss information admitted, her voice flat, as though narrorating someone elses trauma.

"How did you.." "The game glitched before it ended. I figured one day something could happen, even though it was forbidden to even hint at aloud. Myself and two others escaped alongside the hero. Not soon after, the hero of our planet took his life. The guilt of indirect murder lingered on his mind until he himself couldnt escape the fate of his peers." Kit nodded. "It hurts. So much." Miss Information sat down beside Kit, not taking her gaze away from the crumbling, empty town. "It eats me alive. I think about how it all could have been prevented if I had just not done it. I could've saved all those people, my family, my friends. Instead I have their blood on my paws and their final thoughts seeping in my mind," Kat fumbled out her words, her confident and hero-like facade long disapeared.

Miss Informatiom didn't reply to that. She averted her gaze from the wreckage for a moment to examine Kit. Her scarlet red eyes were now flooded with tears, making her gaze ashen and blurry. Her silky, brunette hair was ruffled and disheveled. She was very hot, even now as she was falling apart. Was that a toxic thing to think? Oh, well, it was just her being honest, right?

Kit sniffled, tearing away her gaze for a moment to meet Miss' lingering eyes.

"I think you're brave," Miss stated. She said it like a fact, like it was the most simple and easy thing in the world to be.

Kit nodded once, not thinking of anything else to say or any witty comebacks she usually had prepared. No, for once, Kit was silent. The pair basked in that eerily quietness for a long moment, watching the ruins wither away bleakly. The signs of livliness the town once captured was irreplacable, and it tore deep into Kit's heart that she couldn't save that. She closedr eyes, mourning everything she lost as more tears steamed down her face unwillingly. She opened her eyes after a moment, thinking.

"Miss."

"Hm?"

"I know we dont.. know eachother like that. But could I ask you something personal?"

"Enlighten me."

Kit paused, thinking for a moment of how she should phrase her question.

"Why did you.. Why did you turn to the bad guys if you've seen what its like on the good side..?"

...

The silence that followed stretched for what felt like an eternal dream.

...

Miss stood up abruptly, furrowing her brows while gradually regaining her cold demanour and angry resting face. "We look for any sign of either our companions nearby. Do not speak further of what was discussed, and don't ever bring it back up again." Kit glared at the woman leering over her. She was angry at herself for letting herself be vunerable snd weak infront of an enemy. God, was she stupid? She felt it. But, Kit felt like it was requited. Even for a moment. They bonded a small bit. Miss Information showed such emotional restraint to her now. Maybe it was the question she asked. Kit sighed. Maybe she won't ever know what goes on inside of this blondies head.
