Summary
Set in an alternate version of the Preacher's Daughter lore, this story follows Ethel Cain during her senior year in the suffocating Southern town of Shady Grove, Alabama, where she struggles to survive beneath the weight of her pastor father’s strict religious expectations and her own buried queerness that she doesn’t realize. Isolated, unsettling, and labeled the town’s “creepy preacher’s daughter,” Ethel becomes the favorite target of Maxine Jolie, Shady Grove’s beautiful, cruel golden girl whose obsession with Ethel has bordered on fixation since freshman year.
