Work Text:

Extra sat on the couch silent, sharpening his spear kicking his feet slowly as he got lost in thought*

Napa had vanished and wouldn’t be back for a while so Extra was going to stay here until Napa came back.*

His normal training clothes were on besides a flower crown resting on his head, his hair longer than usual but relaxed in front of the fire.

Zoli was exploring the server he now had control over, teleporting to different builds, people. He always made sure to hide himself, but no one peaked his interest like Evo did.

Until he found himself outside of a cabin, warm colours escaping the windows.

If anyone was going to be alone...

It would be here.

Extra let out a small sigh, resting his head on his spear handle, staring into the fire, making his orange eyes glow.

“Where are you Napa..”

He decided to knock on the door.

Before he could, he heard a voice say the name Napa, and he quickly searched through the player tab to find him.

Interesting.

Almost like a file, he skimmed through his information; first friends with Epax, had a falling out which led to the Vikings, dying, etc etc.

He was an old player.

Which means this person inside must be a relatively old player too. He knocked on the door, waiting for the person to move before teleporting behind them to give them a scare.

Extra stood, eyes moving away with fire, keeping his spear in hand and inched to the door.

When he heard a small sound in the air shift he turned quickly, already jabbing his spear out.

Zolister appeared behind Extra, noticing that the man heard the air move as he teleported.

He grabbed his spear mid swing, stopping its momentum.

"Hello."

“Who sent you.”

Extra’s voice was low and hard, eyes narrowed as he stared at the figure.

He pulled his spear away, kicking or trying to kick the other away.

Zolister laughed, letting his body float upwards before the man could kick. He opened the player's information, his eyes quickly glancing at the information before putting it away.

He adjusted he posture, scrolling through his list of commands, small eyes blinking under his hair. He then moved his deadly gaze to Extra's eyes, smiling.

"I've never seen you before. Well, this will be interesting!"

Extra kept his face carefully blank as he watched the figure float above him.

“Not many people just ‘see me’ so” Extra trailed off, adjusting his stance to defense, it was clear he was stronger, he needed to be careful.

Zolister lowered himself to the ground, brushing off his clothes, fixing the glowing cuffs on his wrists.

"Extra, Extra, Extra. You worked for Napa before the whole wither storm catastrophe, and now you live in a cabin? I wouldn't have expected such a dramatic change from you." *He said as he held the file in his hands.*

"Good with the spear and mace," Zolister chuckled at Extra's spear. "That makes sense."

"Tell me, what are you doing out here all alone? Or.. are you waiting for someone." He smiled.

Extra eyes his hands, suspiciously.

“How do you know that.”

Extra gripped the spear tighter.

“The change in my lifestyle and what I’m doing here is frankly none of you business.”

Death kept his grin wide on his face, pacing around the room with his hands behind his back.

"Huh. Oh, all your information is here for me to see: how you grew up, the big changes in your life, your skills, your relationships." He waved the file in his hand just out of Extra's reach.

"But it is my business! I need to keep tabs on the players, and quite frankly never heard of you until today. Same for this Napa character. He's a nice guy." He taunted.

Extra’s eyes flashed with anger at the mention of knowing his life.

His hands clenched around the spear at the mention of Napa.

“What award you here for? This doesn’t seem like some random get to know you party now does it?”

"Why can't it be?"

He sighed, acting like Extra caught him in a lie.

"You're right, I'm not here for a meetup. I have terrible, terrible news." He clasped his hands together, forcing a concerned, empathetic look on his features.

"Your friend is dead."

Extra’s face broke for a split second, fear, anger, and desperation flashed before it was back to its plain mask.

“I have no reason to trust you.” Extra’s shoulders tensed.

"Oh but you do! I came across him while I was walking around. Seemed to talk about you fondly." He kept the empathetic look plastered on his face.

He missed toying with peoples emotions. Why didn't he lock Pierce up sooner?

"Smart man, but not smart enough to escape my hands. Or.. I guess gaze in this scenario."

Extra glared at him, his chest tightening.

“What did you do to him. What did you do with Napa.”

His ears rang slightly, Napa wouldn’t die. He had 20 hearts. He wouldn’t just die. He wouldn’t leave Extra alone.

"I killed him! Isn't that fun! The man that was the leader of the Vikings," his voice spiked with an over dramatic flare. "Dead by looking into my eyes."

He circled Extra slowly, watching his face in slight amusement.

"Personally, I love that 20 hearts give a person one life. As much as the extra hearts irritate me, at least they only have one chance at life!"

He put his hand on Extra's shoulder tenderly. "Death is not planned for everyone. Sometimes it just.. knocks on your door without explanation." He smiled, peering at the door he walked through, his empathetic face now drowned in a somewhat serious look.

Extra shoved the other off of him, anger burning in his eyes.

“Don’t. Don’t touch me after you did what you did.”

Extra’s mask was slipping his voice cracking slightly.

"Aw. From your records, it shows you have no one left! Napa was the last person that had your back. The last person you could fall back on."

Zolister held a spider lily in his hand, grazing the silk petals.

"Do you need a hug? It looks like you need a hug."

“No! No I have other people. I have other people than Napa. Don’t touch me! You- don’t touch me!”

Extra flinched back, looking at Zoli with anger and finally the fear was clear on his face.

"Scared? That's interesting. Scared of me, or scared that I'm telling the truth?" Zolister inched forwards, waiting for Extra's eyes to lock with his.

Extra shook his head.

“I’m not- you’re not telling me my the truth. I would know if- I would know if he was dead!”

Zolister chuckled.

"Are you sure? I think I'm telling the truth don't you?"

He snapped his fingers, a fake Napa appearing next to him, his eyes half closed, his skin pale.

He remembered what it was like toying with Supzec for Evo, and he hoped for a similar reaction.

Extra paled, looking like he was going to be sick.

“I.. Napa?” Extras voice broke.

"That's how he was when he fell." He said in a serious tone before snapping his fingers again, making him disappear.

"See? You can trust me! Are you sure you don't want a hug now?" Death extended his frigid arms.

Extra remained still and silent, staring at where Napas body was moments before.

"Hm?" He waved his hand in front of his face.

"Interesting. Evo acted the same way. You humans have such interesting emotions." He lowered his cold arms, tapping his chin.

“You killed him.”

Extras voice was low, and he reached for a strength potion. Fuckk this guy. He didn’t care if he died this ghost flying thing needed to go.

“Don’t compare me to EVO of all people.”

"Oh yes! You were with him for a while! I almost forgot. What happened with that huh? Left behind to die?" He looked down at the strength potion in Extra's grip.

"Good luck with that."

Extra moved quickly jabbing his spear.

“Shut the fuckk up."

Zolister watched the man's spear puncture his side.

He smiled, pulling it out, watching his skin close and heal back up.

"I'm not in survival idiot. Are you going to keep trying with your little toy?" He tapped Extra's spear.

“I don’t care!”

Extra snapped and swung his sword instead, running in on anger, which is something Napa had never done. Refused to do.

Letting emotions guide you made you vulnerable.

Death grabbed Extra's wrist, squeezing it until he let go of his blade. He disregarded his cold grip and he tightened it.

"You're just going to end up hurting yourself." He said coldly.

Extra let out a growl, trying to pull his wrist away.

“Let go of me. I don’t care

Extras eyes were filled with anger and guilt.

Zolister's cold hand let go, stepping back to the eye the man curiously.

Evo didn't attack him. Evo just crumbled, listened to what he had to say.

Extra attacking him intrigued him.

"You two were awfully close, huh."

Extra glared at him.

“Shut up.” Extra crouched down to pick up his sword.

Zolister sighed, rubbing his face.

"Did you not hear me earlier? You won't be able to hurt me."

“Does it look like I fuckingg care? You were right. I cared about him a lot. We were close.”

Extras eyes stayed focus on Zolister.

“I can see that curiosity. I’m not some random project or thing for you to mess with.” Extra stared dead at Zolister, anger clear in his gaze.

Zolister chuckled to hide his surprise.

He didn't know what to say.

He stood there, staring at Extra's tense hand.

He didn't feel guilty, Zolister felt as if..

He understood now.

"So you cared for him. For a while. Then I take away that last support system for you, which makes you resort to anger and violence, as if revenge will change anything.

Extra, you are an interesting individual."

“Shut up!” Extra snapped, frustrated.

“You know nothing about me or why I do what I do. I’m not some thing for you to test!”

*Zolister's words made him angry. He wasn’t some thing to be tested, he didn’t need a support system. And he didn’t want revenge.

Did he?

Zolister tilts his head, peering into Extra's code, before throwing his mask back on.

"Extra, Extra. But I have some ideas I can run by with you! What do you say we.. try some things together? Maybe then I can bring Napa back to you."

Extra stilled debating for a second, Napa could be brought back.. a second time?

“How do i know you’re not lying to me?”

"Please. I can do a lot of things! I still have a string of his code." Death lied, hiding his face in his mask of excitement.

"It won't take long. What do you say?"

Extra shifted, hand moving to his flower crown as thought before nodding slightly.

“For Napa..” Extra mumbled.

He smiled.

"Amazing!" He grabbed his wrist again, peering into his memories and pulling out one with Evo and Noob.

The cave appeared in their surroundings, Extra's wrist still in Death's sub zero grip. The memory was frozen in time, Evo handing Noob the golden stew to cure him of the Wither Sickness.

Zolister tugged at his code, the sickness feeling cascading over Extra temporarily.

"Remember what you did here?"

Extra stared, eyes darkened slightly.

“Yeah, why does this matter..

"Would you do this again? Would you kill him?" Zolister let go of his wrist and gripped his shoulders instead.

Extra hesitated

“If I needed to.. and if he needed it done. Then.. then yeah I would do it.

"Desperation is an interesting thing. What if it was Napa? Would you kill him out of desperation to live?"

He snapped his fingers, Evo and Noob changed to Napa holding a singular stew.

Extra stayed silent for a few moments.

“No. No I’d let myself die.”

"Hoh oh. You'd die? You'd let your own life dwindle to let him live? You seemed so focused on continuing your life when Noob grabbed that last stew.

"Weren't they both your friends? Why kill one over the other? Napa then disregarded you and tossed you aside. He was more focused on the Wither Storm than you. Noob was growing trust with you." Zolister asked, interested.

"You've since reunited, but why save someone who hurt you? Unless.. you still cared for him."

Extra stared at the figure of Napa holding the soup.

He missed Noob. He didn’t understand why he felt.. felt so off.

“What’s the point of this.”

Extra didn’t want to think back to this.

"I'm just trying to understand how you work." Death answered, making his way over to Napa.

"You didn't answer my question."

“What question. You asked like four.”

Extra snapped, crossing his arms, almost hugging himself.

"Why would you sacrifice yourself for him if he hurt you?" Death asked, flicking Napa's illusion in the head.

Extra clenched his jaw watching The other flick Napas head.

“Because I cared about him. Doesn’t matter much now that you killed him clearly.”

"Hm." Zolister watched the illusion deep in thought.

"But why? Why did you still care for him? You were obviously hurt by Evo's betrayal, and you barely knew him." Zolister turned his head to Extra's.

Extra stared.

How could he answer a question he didn’t have the answer to?

“I don’t know..”

Extra stared silently back down to his hands, tightening them in fists.

“I have no idea.”

Zolister let the cave fade away, Extra's cabin coming back into view.

Zolister walked away from the man and sat on the couch, everything he learnt swimming around in his head.

Extra stared at him.

“I did what you asked. Bring him back.”

Zolister made a spider lily appear, fiddling with it in his hand as he organized his thoughts before letting the demeanor turn back to normal.

"What if I told you he was gone forever? How would you feel?"

“He can’t be. He can’t be gone forever. But… but- if..”

Extra held his arms thinking.

“I’d be angry. I’d probably get pretty sad. Then.. make choices from there.”

Death stood up, squeezing Extra's shoulder tenderly before handing him the spider lily.

He let go, walking towards the door of the cabin, grabbing the doorknob and opening it. He stood there for a second, forming his last words.

“Didn't you get what you wanted? Bring him back!” Extra snapped, ignoring the sting in his eyes.

"I only heard his name through the door when I first arrived. I never killed him. I never even met him."

Zolister put on a genuine serious look with a small smile when saying, "Cherish it. What you have. You'll never know when it's gone for good.

"I'll be seeing you around, Extra."

He shut the door.

Extra stared out after him.

Napa wasn’t dead, he was alive he was okay.

Extra let out a small cry, leaning on the wall.

“Thank you.. thank you..”
