Chapter Text
It all started on a random Tuesday
”Hurry up Ena!” A voice echoes trough the school’s hallway, coming from a girl named Hikari, Ena knew her from just a couple month ago, and yet she only insisted on one single thing, getting Ena into a club
“I’m coming, I’m coming!” Ena’s voice answered back to the loud girl, maybe she was right, maybe the right option was to… maybe join a club
Ena’s feet tripped as she was practically getting dragged all over the school by Hikari, all the running came to a halt in front of an empty classroom
“Ta da! Its the new art club”
Art club
Enas eyes glimmered at the sight
finally! A goddamn art club!
”one of my friends opened this club quite recently, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for you to join a club once and for all!”
The classroom’s door clattered as Hikari shot it open, the club wasn’t flashy at all, in fact, it only had like three people in it, and yet
Ena already loved it
it didn’t take much time for Ena to start regularly assisting to it, after each day she would rush to the familiar empty classroom, and settle with her fellow club mates
And of course, Ena would be happy every time a new club member would join, heck, anyone would be!
But there was something Ena would hide from everyone in that classroom
The main reason of why she was there was because… she was the best artist in there
It wasn’t really that deep, yet she didn’t want to tell anyone
But she just loved all the attention she got
all the praise, all the attention
it made her happier than ever, she didn’t consider herself selfish at all, and yet, she ate all of that attention up
Because art was Ena’s entire purpose
If she wasn’t the “artist” then, what was she?
She wasn’t the best student, or the best daughter or friend
Art was the only thing she has
And that club gave her all of the validation she needed
Until one day
it started off normal, like every other day, the bell rang and school was officially over and just like any other day, Ena’s legs started moving down all of the familiar hallways
Pushing open the classroom door with a loud rumbling noise and being greeted by the same old students who were always in the club, Yamada, Saito, Yuki and-
Ena’s eyes widened slightly at the sight of… an unfamiliar face
The boy was blonde with peach colored hair and golden eyes who caught everyone’s attention
“Ah, you’re Ena right? Allow me to introduce myself!” The boy’s loud voice startled her, but she was distracted by the… flashy pose the boy was doing
“Tenma, written as soaring Pegasus! Tsukasa, meaning to govern! I am Tsukasa Tenma, brand new member of the art club!”
”I- nice to meet you?” Ena’s words got caught into her throat
This boy was really flashy, he somehow caught every single eye effortlessly
And Ena hated that
One of the chair’s scraped against the floor and she simply sat down on it, carefully arranging all of her art supplies
Today’s assignment was written on the board: Draw where you see yourself in the future
The answer was awfully obvious: Ena was gonna be a successful artist, one so talented that she could easily impress everyone, especially her father
Her hand instinctively reached for the pencil, and like every other time, the pencil lead scraped against the paper
Each stroke being perfectly calculated, aligned to make a perfect piece
One where Ena was seen standing next to a painting made by her in an art gallery, everyone admiring it
Her lips curled into a smile at the thought, and before she knew, the piece was finished
She eyed it proudly, it was perfect awesome, and every other positive adjective
”I see you’re a very talented artist!” Once again the blonde boy caught Ena’s attention
“thanks, do you want me to give you some advice?”
Tsukasa’s hand immediately reached for his own drawing “Please do!”
And Ena could feel her world fall apart at that very moment
Tsukasa’s piece showed him in a stage, the spotlight on him and the crowd smiling and cheering, the lighting was impeccable, guiding the viewers eyes to the Tsukasa in the drawing
It was good
Like, really good
Ena’s face forced a bitter smile
“it’s good! You could maybe detail the stage a little bit?
she didn’t know what she was talking about, it was so good she could even think of advice to give
”Thanks! I’ll work more on that next time!”
Tsukasa shone so bright
And Ena was… jealous
that was a foreign word for her, she was used to the others being jealous of her… not the opposite
That day she ran home, tears flowing down her cheeks
the day she oh so dreaded was finally here
She found someone better than her
And she hated that so much
she hated her drawings
she hated the club
she hated her arms for not being able to draw properly
and most importantly
she hated herself for being so…
behind
