Chapter Text

It had been one week since Jax had joined the circus, if it could even be called that.
It didn’t feel like a circus whatsoever, it felt more like a dam dollhouse, a child’s playroom with circus themes.
Jax himself was a stuffed purple rabbit, he wore a red shirt under his pink overalls, and he had a weird pull cord in his back, his eyes were shiny almost glass like. And he himself felt more lost than ever before, anxiously tugging at his ears constantly, his ragdoll body would twist and flop in weird motions, gravity was not in his favour.
He felt lost until he met her.
Ribbit, a soft plush frog, her body was different and more controlled than Jax’s, she had joints in her elbows, and legs allowing her much more steady movements.
Her body was a soft leather, with a frilly glittery pink bow around her neck, her eyes were plastic, with lashes made of felt.
She helped Jax adapt to his new body, helping him adjust to his new weight, which lead to him becoming rather bouncy and cartoonish.
He had met other “freaks” much like him, Kinger a chess king piece made of smooth wood, Ragatha a patched up Ragdoll who had seen years of “play”.
Jax didn’t know it yet, but their new bodies were based on toys they had all grown up playing with as children.

“You okay?” Ribbit asked Jax softly, “you’ve been really odd.”
“Just fine tadpole…” Jax held his knees to his chest slightly, his glass eyes carrying slight resentment and anxiety.
“I get your adjusting, but soon it’ll all be alright. Things will blow over, and you’ll get used to it.”
“Yeah right, you’ve got joints, I’m full of cotton.”
“Ragatha is a ragdoll too, and she’s adjusted just fine.”
“She has a wire frame in her dress to keep her balanced.”
“And Kinger doesn’t even have legs, what’s your point?”
“I’m just…”
“Scared? Afraid? Uncertain?”
Ribbit reached a small paw out reassuringly, “you’ll be fine, okay?…. It’ll all be alright.”
“You're really sure about this toots?”
“I’m certain.”

And with that Ribbit helped Jax up, steadying his balance slightly by wrapping an arm around his waist.
“I’m sick of Caine, I’m sick of these adventures. First I’ll have stuff falling on my head! Then tea parties! Dancing lessons….”
“Pfft, you're quite a mood Jax, just wait until you get stuck on an icy mountain.”
“I’d much prefer to be on a mountain beating the sh#@! Out of helpless fish!”
“Fish? No Jax. We had to run away from a gang of polar bears.”
“Okay, now maybe dance lessons aren’t that bad…”
“Yeah, now c’mon…. You’ve got to hear Kinger ramble.”

And just like that, the two wandered off away from the corner of the playroom, and towards the dollhouse where the rest were.
Why did Jax feel warm? Why did he feel something strange? Why did the leather against his plush paws feel good?…. God he felt disgusted with himself.
He felt revolted, why did he open up so easily? Why? Why did this “frog” make him feel less anxious and more sure about himself.
