    Kinger cannot bear to leave Caine dead. In spite of everything he's done, and the pain he's inflicted, he can't bear the guilt of murdering the poor AI-- on top of the circus falling apart without him. With no choice but to return him exactly as he was, or else the circus will surely collapse and leave them all stuck, but in the void instead-- he is reinstated as he was, with all his abilities, and they have no choice but to trust that he won't hurt him.

    Caine realizes he has *really* messed up. Apologetic, and quickly learning what it feels like to feel hurt, scared, and angry-- he wants to make it up to them. Except he doesn't know how, and so he ignores the problems desperately until he can't.
