Yet you'll never be her

Summary:

Veronica is forced to move out of fear for her life,

or:
Dead girl walking never happened, Veronica actually went through with "I could change my name and ride up to Seattle" but we include McSawyer "Good Luck Babe !" vibes because why not

Notes:

Hey bitches, it's ya boy here, I will soon have this planned out completely. As of writing this (5/17/26, 12:04 AM EST) I have seven chapters planned and the first one written. Expect updates to be at the pace of an elderly snail. I have divorced parents and keep forgetting my laptop, my mom is having a baby in like a month (due date is 6/14) and I'm super busy with school (also depression and mental illness and stuff.) Please forgive me, This is just an approximation but expect to get at least one chapter a month (I know, I know.) I have no idea if that is accurate though, this is my third fic (first one is orphaned) and my first chaptered one so we'll see. I'm not the best at grammar but who gives a shit anymore. There is also a very brief class of 09 ref in chapter on (hence the tag.) Uhh never forget yuri nation, remember to eat your daily dose of microplastics, bye my children.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Veronica enjoys causing problems

Chapter Text

Well, Veronica was an idiot. So far, she’d gone from a dorky teen to fourth in her high school's power system. None of that seemed to matter now—Veronica had ruined her reputation; by Monday, she’d probably be dead.

Secretly, deep down, Veronica had no regrets; the look on Heather Chandler’s face was priceless. The school's “Mythic Bitch” and “Queen Bee” had been covered in puke, although Veronica knew her last-minute drunken decisions could cost her life.

Even deeper down, so far down it was barely there, she had one regret: Heather McNamara. Heather McNamara was the nicest Heather. Nobody talked about it, but they had been best friends in kindergarten. They were even the ones taking photos when Martha finally got her kiss on the kickball field.

Veronica was scared to admit it, but she worried for Heather McNamara. Her anxiety seemed worse, and only Veronica could calm her. What would Heather do when Veronica was gone?

Veronica was sitting in her room, her head in her hands, she had somehow snuck in past her sleeping parents. God damn it…What would she do now? She could kill herself, make it quick and painless, before Heather Chandler did it. Though Veronica was scared, not of death, but rather judgment.

Who were we kidding? It was Sherwood fucking Ohio, everybody was simultaneously judgmental and afraid of judgment.

If Veronica was going to kill herself, she’d want to go out as a troubled teen, not some wannabe Heather slut in over her head.
Veronica looked out the window.

Something caught her eye: her Gray 1982 Ford Escort. She didn’t know why the color or name mattered so much, but they did for her parents when they bought it for her.

Veronica quickly found a sheet of paper, scribbling down a goodbye note to her parents, explaining briefly what had happened with the Heathers, telling them not to go to the police. Before finishing off the note with her pager number and her signature,
(419) 899-4571

Veronica got in her car, slamming on the gas, pulling out of her driveway, and picking up a map. This would be a long drive…
