“Guys! I think I got one!”
Hinata said, reeling in a fish. It was both his and Yamaguchi’s idea for the first years to go fishing, as practice was cancelled because another club needed it for their own practice. They were at a lakeside near Karasuno, with fishing rods, and buckets of worms.
Hinata tried reeling in the fish, but the fish was fighting back, and he was too small (or too light) to manage the fish, and it swam away with the bait. Hinata fell off his chair and flopped on the floor, back first.
“Nevermind…” he said, looking up at the sky. “That’s the third time already…” He rubbed the back of his head as he got up, and put another worm in his fishhook.
“I’m surprised your rod hasn’t snapped or broken yet.” Tsukishima said, with a smug expression and a snide accent. Yamaguchi snickered behind him at that. “Well, it’s not like “the king” any better.” He added, pointing at Kageyama who was reeling in a fish.
Kageyama, in response, showed the fish he had just finished reeling in as of Tsukishima’s statement. “I win.” It was flopping about as he tossed it into the bucket.
“WHAT!? NO WAY!” Hinata said, staring at Kageyama. “I’ll take you, watch!” They both put their hooks into the water, glaring at eachother. The other two just stare at them for a moment before going back to fishing themselves.
…
They fished until the sun had set. They caught, surprisingly, a little more than 2nd dozens of fish all together. Hinata and Kageyama both tied for seven fish, and are still fishing to set the score. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi were already wrapping up and were now just waiting for them. The moon had started to rise, but the fish had not.
Suddenly, Kageyama gets a bite. Hinata watches him, surprised, but…
“Ngh! It’s not- aaagh!” The fish is fighting back, threatening to pull Kageyama into the water. He keeps his stance, however, and the fish is yet to swim away.
They fight for about a minute, the other three watching, Tsukishima filming, before the fish gets the better of him and nearly pulls him into the water. He would’ve fallen, but..
“Kageyama-san!” As his first foot slipped off of the boardwalk, Yamaguchi rushes in, putting down his bucket of fish to help the other out. The fish pulls and pulls at the two of their combined forces, although it’s much easier thanks to the added strength. But it’s still not enough, and the fish is yet to surrender, so Hinata joins in too.
With their combined strength (excluding Tsukishima, who was still filming), they were able to finally make some progress on the fish. Sooner or later…
“Come- on, you- AAAAGH!” The three of them fall back into eachother as they reel in a huge fish, launching it up into the air along with a burst of water. They watch together as the fish flies, falling onto the three of them. As it tries to flop away, Hinata and Kageyama apprehend the huge fish to prevent it’s escape. They sigh to eachother as they look at the fish.
“It’s still a tie, since I helped out, by the way!” Hinata said to Kageyama.
“Well, I’m the one who reeled it in the first place, so I win.” Kageyama replied, and they bantered for a minute before Yamaguchi had to split them up.
“Come on, you two, let’s go.” He said, helping them drag the fish away. They pass by the fishing shop and sell it for a quick buck, and they split it three ways (Tsukishima doesn’t get any, cause he didn’t help. He rolled his eyes at that.), not before a photo, though.
They grab their own individual buckets of fish, (which they decided they’d keep) before preparing to split up. Tsukishima sends them the photo they all took together in their GC before they went their separate ways.
“Bye Tsukishima-san! Bye Yamaguchi-san!” Hinata waved as him and Kageyama walked off. The other two waved back as they saw them off.
“Bye!”
