Chapter 1: Prolouge

Summary:

I know that this fanfiction is a little bit behind the times, seeing how it's taking place after the overlord's first defeat. However, this was the only place I could find that would work with the story line. It kind of trails off on it's own plot. It works the gap between the overlord's defeat and the techno age. When I started writing the plot though, I just couldn't put it into it's place, and match it back to the techno season. So, I kind of took our favorite characters for a new, different story! I hope you all enjoy! (basically, all of the techno, Chen, and Morro stuff don't exist, according to this fanfiction. It may be awkward and uncomfortable, but please bear with me)!

Chapter Text

The city was in complete ruins. Shards of glass and concrete chunks of buildings littered the streets. Neon signs were smashed inwards, flickering in depleted energy, littered about as if they were someone’s idea of abstract art. Never had a city ever been so silent, so empty; like a ghost town. A place of where, seemingly, some mystery storm had just come rummaging through, trashing the streets in its rage.

It seemed as though there were no people left after whatever had happened to the city. Not a single light was on in any of the skyscrapers or department stores. Not a single car to be had to wait at a red light or speed through a yellow. There wasn’t a laugh, a sob, a breath to be heard; empty streets, with its only citizens being flickering neon lights and pointless traffic lights.

However, inside the apartments and houses that stood around the outskirts of Ninjago City, unseen parties were being held late into the night, consisting of dancing and singing and smiles and laughing; all in gratitude for a specific group of five young men. People, who had saved their world from suffering the same fate as their beloved city had, only hours prior.

As it had it, those men were the only ones not dancing into the early morning. Instead, they were sleeping soundly, something they had not been able to do in a long time. The world was now filled with peace; there was no longer the need for sleepless nights, each and every one of the heroes waiting with eyes wide and open ears for sounds of danger. There was no longer a need for them to sleep in shifts, or lay with their weapons as their sleep partners. They could finally, for what felt like the first time in their lives, sleep without a care in the world.

Evil, of course, never rested. A balance between the good and evil was always restored, and so it would always come to pass for their sleep patterns to be doomed. For now, however, the heroes could close their eyes without a threat to keep them awake.

For now, they could finally rest.
