Chapter Text
A peaceful Friday morning came upon Four and X. They were hanging out in their backyard of the beach house they shared. Four, fidgeting slightly with nervous energy even while relaxing, rapidly finished his coffee, his eyes darting across the scenery. X, typically more docile and calm, remained absorbed in his science fiction novel.
A sharp inhale escaped Four’s lips, his voice pitching high with excitement.
“X! We should go to the mall and window shop!” Four was practically jumping up and down, staring at X.
He bounced on the balls of his feet, his gaze drilling into X.
X immediately snapped his book shut and leapt up to his feet. “OH MY ALGEBRA YES WE SHOULD! LETS GO!” Fours arms swung with joy.
When they got to the mall, they grabbed food from the food court and wandered around together, laughing and enjoying their time. They went to fill up their sodas, when suddenly, X pointed out someone.
“Hey…Why does that integer look familiar?"
“What color are they?"
“Green.”
“There are two green integers. Are they shaped like two or fourteen?”
“A two.”
“That’s Two then. They must be moving into this town.”
“OO YAY! WE SHOULD INVITE THEM OVER!”
“Nope, sorry X but that’s not-” Before Four could finish, X was darting towards Two's direction.
“X. GET BACK HERE.” Four demanded at X with annoyance and urgency in his voice. Four kept yelling at X to come back but it was too late, X had made it to Two and started talking with them about plans to come over for the weekend. Four froze, staring as X and Two laughed with each other, X gesturing for Two to come with him. Four’s face hardened, watching Two and X approach with smiles on their faces. When Two and X finally made it to where Four was standing, Two tried to make small talk with Four, but Four wasn’t having what X was trying to do.
“Heya Four! It has been a while since we talked, hasn’t it mate?” Two spoke with confidence in their voice but with a hint of fear along with it. Four rolled his eyes and stared into Two’s soul.
“Yea. MATE.” Four growled, giving a disgusted look. X took notice of Four's reaction and quickly grabbed Four’s arm and started dragging him along to the other side of the food court.
“Be right back Two!” X hollered as he walked away with Four. When the two got to the other side of the food court, X grabbed Four's face and made him look at him.
“What’s going on Four? All he’s trying to do is make small talk!” X softly spoke, trying to help Four the best he can.
“X. You know I have a problem with Two, ever since the shit they pulled back in middle school.” Four broke his head free from X’s grip, looking away. Four was trying to clearly hint to X that he didn’t want to think of what happened on that day back in middle school.
“My memory is foggy from that day.. What happened?” X quietly asked, not wanting Four to get mad at him. Four’s mouth formed into a frown as he remembered that day. He turned to face X and gestured for him to take a seat. As soon as X took a seat, Four followed. Four took a breath and started telling the story about the day in full detail.
“Well, it all started on Mako Shark Thursday, one of my favorite school events. Me and Two were, well…dating. Our relationship was good until they thought it would be a good idea to join the volleyball group.” Four started, however he was interrupted by X, overloaded with so many questions.
“But that isn’t so bad, Four! What’s wrong with volleyball..?” X questioned.
“Well, the sport isn’t that bad, but it’s the people that were on that team back then. On the volleyball team, there were Eight, Nine, Six, Fourteen, and Ten. According to Two, Eight had asked if they wanted to join the volleyball friend group thing they had. Two obviously said yes because..well it’s one of their closest friends, why wouldn’t they listen to their friend. Everyone except Ten was a bad influence on Two. Two would start doing things that they would do, like smoke, drink illegally, drink and drive etcetera etcetera. Two pulled me into their shenanigans and I got framed by them. I had to serve 20 YEARS IN THAT STUPID FUCKING PRISON. ALL BECAUSE TWO AND THEIR LITTLE FRIENDS DIDN’T WANT TO GET INTO TROUBLE.” Rage was pumping through Four’s veins, he was almost foaming at the mouth. X grabbed Four’s hands and started squeezing them.
“Hey hey heyyyy, calm down Four. Didn’t you say that Ten wasn’t a bad influence? Maybe focus on that whenever you think of that memory. Also, it wasn’t Two’s fault that they were surrounded by bad influences, maybe they changed now!” X tried to be optimistic about the situation, but Four didn’t want to believe anything that X was trying to put into his brain. Four crossed his arms and looked away, obviously pissed about having to rant about all of the drama from back then. X sighs and looks down to his feet.
“Look. When I talked to Two, they genuinely looked and sounded like they wanted to change for the better. They want to talk to you, Four. They want to make things right. They hated that time as much as you do. Please. They are going to stay at our house for a while since they don’t have anywhere to live for now. Please, just be nice to them, you guys both don’t want to remember that time. Just put it all behind you two and try to bond together again.” X explained to Four, hoping that he would understand. Four thought about it for a second and reluctantly agreed. Both X and Four stood up and walked back to where Two was standing, waiting for them to come back. When Four and X made it to Two, he got straight to business.
“Alrighty, let’s get loaded into the car and get home so Two can get a tour of our house and find a place to sleep!” X swings his arms back and forth, car keys in hand. Two smiles and stretches out their back.
“Ok! Let’s go, lads!” Two exclaims. Four crosses his arms again and groans. As the three walked to the car, X and Two talked while Four looked at the scenery outside the mall. Four watched every bird fly in groups and every leaf fall onto the ground. When they got into the car, X took the driver seat, while Four and two took the backseat.
