It Had To Be You

Summary:

"I guess her heart wasn't really there to begin with." Izuku said softly, strangely enough, this discovery didn't exactly bother him.
"But yours was?" Kacchan asked, looking at the open field in front of them. He was avoiding Izuku's gaze.
"This is not about me." Both of them know Izuku avoided the question, but then again, neither of them wanted an actual answer to it.
"It's always been about you, Izuku."

OR:

After Katsuki encourages Izuku to date Ochaco, both of them uncover some underlying feelings that have been buried deep in their hearts ever since the war, maybe even earlier. What happens when Ochaco breaks up with Izuku after just two months of dating because of her own unresolved feelings towards a certain blonde friend? Guess we'll have to find out!

Chapter 1: Chop Chop

Chapter Text

Katsuki needed to go up the charts as soon as fucking possible. He is already at 18 while Izuku was chilling at 4, obviously the need to catch up was indeed a powerful one.

It is not his fault those fucking civilians are such snowflakes. Back when he had just opened his agency, he tried rescuing an old lady by asking her to take his hand. What did the hag do? She started lecturing him mid battle about how he should've said please.

Of course pro hero Dynamight wouldn't have left an innocent woman to just burn because of her own stupidity, so he did the only logical thing that one could think of. He snatched her from the collapsing building and in no less than two seconds she was already on the ground, safe and sound.

Did she thank him? Why would she, he just saved her from burning alive. Instead she went up to all of the other civilians who were witnessing the entire scene and started complaining about Dynamight's attitude.

And they all agreed with her.

Which is exactly the reason why Katsuki refuses to do rescue work anymore, his strength is combat and he will showcase it as his heart likes. Yes, he may have dropped in ranks because everyone sees him as this mean, out of touch hero, but come fucking on. A lot of heroes avoid rescue work and they don't drop in ranks.

Well, he supposed he could be just a little nicer during interviews.

In any case, it seemed like today villains have decided to take a nap, which is fucking amazing because Katsuki could also use the free time to take a nap.

But why in the world would he do that when he could just pay Izuku a visit.

He checked the time to see which class is Izuku teaching at the moment. Yes, he knows his timetable, fuck off. If Katsuki's memory didn't betray him, which never does but whatever, Izuku should be teaching Eri's class right now.

Katsuki exploded his way to UA, arriving there faster than you would say "Plus Ultra". Too bad they don't just let anyone in. Well, he is not just anyone, but of course they gotta complicate things. The window it is!

This was already a routine by now, whenever he was bored, had some time to kill, shit even when he was in the middle of patrolling, Katsuki would go to UA way more frequently than the usual graduate does. Not that he misses the memories that the school brings upon him, he is obviously only doing all this for Izuku.

Everything he ever did was, is and will be for Izuku, whether Katsuki realises that or not.

The moment he arrived at the window he was actually debating on giving it one small spark to crack, but that would've been way too much damage control for his liking, so he can only hope Izuku lets him in.

It didn't take long for Izuku to notice Katsuki smirking outside the window. The look on his face is fucking priceless, every single time. He noticed how the man started rubbing his palm against his forehead, his irritation clearly visible. It was a sight to see, really. As he approached the window, Katsuki slightly waved at the man in front of him, just to be flipped off by the very same man.

Take a load of this fucking guy.

That one day in first year when Izuku had started catching an attitude in front of Katsuki was the day he knew his childhood best friend had become unstoppable. At first he found it off putting, but later he came to learn that now it was even easier to annoy Izuku since the backbone he had recently developed was going to come handy in their daily back and forth.

The window was now open and Katsuki didn't waste a single second to get in the classroom, as he was welcome with a loud bang on the desk coming from nothing other than Izuku's hand. Katsuki must say, his best friend has extremely distracting hands.

"Everyone quiet down and concentrate on the exam, please!" Katsuki saw other instances where Izuku was definitely angrier than he was now, but it was obvious that his nervous system wasn't going to take much longer until fully shutting down.

Izuku moved in a heartbeat from the desk in front of Katsuki, whispering angrily in his ear. "I told you specifically yesterday that you can't come to this class since they are having an exam."

Oh right, he did tell him that. "Shit, I-"

Izuku put his hand on Katsuki's mouth, restraining him from talking whatsoever. Whenever Katsuki was this close to Izuku, he couldn't help but stare into his eyes as if he'd been caught in a trance. The whole world became brighter the moment his eyes met Izuku's, that specific shade of green made everything look plain around him. Katsuki wished he could take a long, long trip into those eyes, maybe live there actually and never leave.

"Outside. Now." Izuku whispered yelled while covering Katsuki's mouth with both of his hands. Truthfully he didn't know why Izuku even tried to keep quiet since it was so blatantly obvious that those students definitely preferred to watch pro hero Dynamight in the flesh rather than probably write an essay about All Might or some shit.

"Right." Katsuki let himself be dragged outside by the mad teacher, the door slamming with a loud bang.

Izuku took a deep breath then ruffled through his already messy hair. "Please tell me you have something important to share with me that it couldn't wait after I was off work." His tone was almost condescending if Katsuki squinted a bit.

"And what if I tell you I came here just to see your face, hm? Your face is pretty damn important, ain't it?" Lately the pro hero has been getting braver around Izuku, Katsuki himself doesn’t know where this bravery has come from and moreover, why. But he refuses to overthink it, yet.

Izuku stayed quiet for a whole ten seconds before answering. You know what they say, silence is also answer. "Thank you for your concern regarding my face, warms my heart." Sarcasm was overflowing Izuku's tone and Katsuki could never get tired of hearing it.

  He is fucking doomed.

Before he could manage to answer Izuku, the teacher opened the classroom's door and took a quick look at all of those poor, tortured souls. "Katsuma, if you dare to cheat I will fail everyone in this class." Everyone groaned at the same time, besides Katsuma, who looked guiltier than a villain getting caught in the act.

"Sorry, mister Midoriya." Katsuma looked like he was on the verge of crying, rightfully so, Izuku looked like a shapeshifter whenever he talked to them. Who would've thought the guy who stuttered every two sentences would become this.

Izuku just nodded and closed the door once again, slower this time. "I do have to get back, so..."

  "That was impressive."

  "Huh?"

"It's like Danger Sense but for your students." Katsuki chuckled lightly, which he only does around Izuku, just because the dude's presence is funny, alright?

"Never thought of it that way." Izuku smiled for the first time today ever since Katsuki saw him and suddenly nothing mattered anymore.

"That's a talent on its own, Izuku. But of course you refuse to see it since it's about yourself." Katsuki wasn't always so open in sharing his thoughts, well he was, but only the surface ones, the ones which didn't need more than two braincells to form. The ones which he sat with for months, years even though...sharing them is definitely a new addition. He hates to admit that therapy has actually made a difference in his behaviour.

Izuku just let a small defeated sigh, he knew Katsuki was right so why bother arguing against him. "Are you joining the class or not, Kacchan?"

"Only if I don't have to take the exam too." Katsuki crossed his hands, more like his gauntlets.

"I really don't want additional papers to grade." Izuku chuckled then took a better look at Katsuki. Oh he loved when Izuku was not hiding the fact that he was checking him out, it probably wasn't in the way most people would tend to think, but his eyes are still wandering around his body, are they not? "Take those off before we enter the classroom, last time those problem children wasted the whole period asking me what's the technology behind them. You'd think they're from the support course, not the hero one!" Izuku touched the gauntlets and Katsuki could swear that touch went right through them to his skin.

  "Where do I-"

"Teacher's lounge, you'll pick them up after. I'll wait for you in the classroom now." Izuku entered the classroom and shut the door behind him, leaving Katsuki standing in the hallway. He should remember where the teacher's lounge is, he's been plenty of time there, right?

Luckily, he found it rather quickly and left the gauntlets in a hurry right next to the couch. He was grateful no one was in there, otherwise it would've been pretty fucking awkward.

When Katsuki entered the classroom, most of the students were handing Izuku their papers. Him around brats actually made a lot of sense, but of course Katsuki Bakugou would never admit that in front of him. After all the goal is to make him pursue hero work full time, not the other way around.

"Thank you, everyone! I'll try my best to grade them by the end of this week, class dismissed." Izuku got up from his chair and started cleaning his desk, still not noticing Katsuki.

  His students did though.

"Hey Dynamight, I'm gonna fail this because you interrupted me." One of the students said while exiting the classroom. He liked this kid.

“Don’t worry, I’ll bribe your teacher to especially give you some extra credit.” Katsuki whispered in the student’s ear, then both of them chuckled.

"Ah, Kacchan! Didn't even see you there! Would you like helping me prepare for the next class?"

  "Kota's?"

"Yes! I prepared a presentation about public image, but honestly, you're already here."

"The fuck is that supposed to mean?" Oh now Katsuki was offended, why is he always the black sheep when it comes to public image, fucking snowflake extras.

"I think you know exactly what I mean, number 18." Izuku looked at Katsuki challengingly, waiting for him to snap. Too bad Katsuki won't give him that.

"I'm number 3 in the popularity charts though."

"And I'm 2. Gotta catch up. Chop, chop Kacchan." He could fucking swear Izuku's voice got deeper when he said his nickname. Might imagine things. Maybe. Maybe not.

"Tsk, you don’t get to chop chop me." Katsuki looked around the classroom then turned back to Izuku. "I want that seat.” He pointed towards the seat in the front row, the one in the right corner.

"I know, Kacchan, usually no one ever sits there because they're expecting you to come at any time of the day." Izuku says sheepishly. When the conversation was finally getting interesting, Izuku just had to change the subject into something else entirely. "Soo...no bad guys today?" So annoying.

"No, they all came up to me and said: oh dear Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, today we shall not bother you since you so badly want to see the one and only hero Deku." Katsuki could see Izuku's cheeks starting to burn up, it's like he still can't believe it himself that he is in fact, a hero, always in the top charts too.

"Yeah, I totally believe you. Now go to your assigned seat or just wait beside me while I wait for the students to arrive." Izuku sat on his chair looking at Katsuki curiously.

While sitting on a chair sounded nice, sitting next to Izuku will always sound nicer.
