'Hanazawa, the man downstairs ' teruki's failure to change as much as people believe he has.
S2 ep 11, a mysterious arsonist found its way to teruki's apartment and asked 'are you hanazawa?' To which teruki responded 'hanazawa? The man downstairs?' Which was promptly ignored and his apartment was still blown up.
I believe that this shows that teruki had failed to completely change since it shows that he would throw any random person under the bus to protect himself. This, from a certain point, could be seen as a representation of his introductory chapter : 'eyes that only see inferiority' since he doesnt see his neighbors as people, just ways to protect himself.
That being said, I believe there are two reasons that he can be excused for this behaviour : his lonesome and his history with claw.
Firstly, his lonesome. It seemed clear, borderline obvious, that for years, the only person teruki needed to care about was himself, his parents weren't around and he only had himself in the world. This meant that he defaulted back to doing anything to defend himself since he has no one to help defend him, and he has no form of comfort, he can only know defense, attack and sometimes rest. This probably drives him to impulsively place the blame on others to defend himself.
Secondly, his history with claw. We learn from s1 ep11 that teru believes that going against claw unprepared is like having a death wish. He had to dodge their attacks for years on his own, so when someone tries to ask who he is, he probably would give a fake name since he doesnt want any trouble with them anymore.
With all this being said, him having reasons to fake who he was and sabotage his neighbour doesn't change the fact that it is something that the old teru would've done. That's probably because he hasn't had a run in (from his apartment) since before he changed so he didnt have time to think about his actions.
In conclusion, teruki had changed, but by the end of s2, it wasn't as subconscious which contradicts the fact that teru changed very quickly, because it took him very long to change without trying. Thank you for reading.
