Chapter Text
Cold...
Thats all they could feel. The chill of the ocean waves against their body as they layed upon a sandy beach somewhere. How did they get here again...? They couldn't really remember, nor care to recall at the moment. All they knew was that they were cold, wet, and oh so very tired... They barely managed to force their eyes open, slowly moving their head and giving up just after getting their face to look up ahead, the world around them blurring in and out as a small groan escaped them.
A tall fuzzy brown thing towered ahead... maybe a building?? They squinted a little, trying to get their vision to focus. Yes... yes, it did look kind of like a building. Some sort of a wooden structure with a tall staircase...?
Their head started to pound a little.
They shut their eyes tightly once more, one of their hands digging into the sand and closing into a fist. "Maybe I am crumbling... maybe this is the last things I will see and feel before my end. Pathetic..."
They heard something... no. some-ONE.
They forced their eyes open once more, looking ahead blankly as their vision started to swim even more. They saw the form of another cookie running towards them, yelling words that were too distorted and fuzzy to understand. They seemed.. concerned.
"Why would this cookie be so concerned...? I'm going to die anyway, there's no use in worrying..."
They felt their eyes drooping once more, a strange sort of weightless feeling overtaking them. They were just... so tired... Maybe a small nap wouldn't hurt, right-?
Their eyes closed just as the cookie reached them, her pinkish reddish eyes wide in concern and fear.

Distant static noises was the first thing they heard. Longan slowly opened their eyes once more, the world still a bit blurry but this time slowly focusing a lot better than before. They sat up, and instantly regretted it as a blinding headache came over them, causing them to grit their teeth and hold their hands to their head, flinching a little. They felt something unfamiliar wrapped around their head, something almost cloth-like. They gingerly took their fingers away from their head and looked down at their hand, small speckles of jam dotting their hand.
"I must.. have been injured somehow..."
They shook their head slowly, carefully looking around their environment. Their heart seemed to sink ever so slightly when they took notice of all of the overabundance of decorations littering the walls and shelves all around. Movie posters and ribbons stuck behind photograph frames were stuck up against the wall, some squished quite close together, while a few were spread apart. On the shelves were stacks upon stacks of movie disks and merchandise from franchises that Longan did not recognize. They looked to the ground, finding a blanket covered with the image of some handsome cookie on it. They wondered if whoever brought them here put that blanket on Longan and if it had simply slid off during their slumber.
They heard the sound of someone walking towards the room. Longan's head whipped towards the noise, instantly on high guard and their head starting to sting once more. They held their breath before quickly going back to laying down, shutting their eyes and pretending to be still be asleep. They didn't know where they were, or if this person could be trusted; of course they were going to be a little cautious.
They listened carefully as the sound of footsteps approached them, soft doughy steps going near them. The steps paused for a moment just next to him. A small sigh was heard. A little bit of silence before Longan felt something soft being put on top of him. Maybe a blanket of sorts? Whatever it was, Longan didn't much appreciate the sensation of the cookie's hand brushing against him as the soft thing was put on him. The mere contact of another cookie's dough touching his made his skin crawl.
They instantly shot up, eyes wide and ready to throw a punch. The other cookie gave a small yelp, stumbling backwards and tripping over a unforseen slipper, falling over onto her bum. She gave a small wince, rubbing the spot she fell on ruefully. She looked up at Longan, her slight hurt fading into both concern and slight joy as she lept back to her feet, running back over to Longan.
"Woah woah woah, easy there tiger-! Your still recovering." She tried to get Longan to sit back down, but the tall cookie stubbornly stood there, even though the world was starting to spiral once more. "Who are you? Where am I-? And how did I get here-!?" Longan demanded, their words slightly slurring a little bit. The other cookie looked quite concerned about them, holding her hands up as a friendly gesture. "I-I can explain TWO of those, just please sit on down before you keel back over-!"
Longan stood there stubbornly for a moment longer, about to take a step towards the cookie before the world spun a little too much, causing them to stumble back onto the couch, plopping back down and holding their head in their hands, groaning and slightly whimpering from the sharp pain in their head.
The other cookie stood there awkwardly, fiddling with her fingers a little before running a hand through her popcorn-hair, scratching her doughy head a little before slowly dragging another chair over and sitting down.
"....Soooo.... to answer ONE of your questions..." She began, somewhat nervously. Longan slowly peeked from between their fingers at her, waiting somewhat impatiently. The cookie took in a deep breath, sheepishly smiling. "The only one I can answer with CERTAINTY is that the 'where you are', which would beeeeee... well, my house!" She gave a small gesture around the room. Longan's face went into a look of barely disguised disgust.
"..Well no need to look so mad, eh?" The cookie laughed nervously, sweatdropping slightly as Longan's displeasure intensified. "Annnnyyywhooooo-!" She clapped her hands together, smiling brightly as if already forgetting their previous awkwardness. "Second question I can answer! My name is Popcorn cookie, your local film fanatic!" She gave a slight playfully bow, which was slightly awkward since she was still sitting. She gave longan her brightest biggest grin, tilting her head to the side slightly. "And you?? Whats your name, stranger from the beach?"
Longan stared at Popcorn for a moment, wracking their brain for a moment. "...Longan." They finally murmured. Popcorn blinked in surprise. "longan..." She repeated slowly before grinning brightly once more, nodding slightly. "That fits you!" She said cheerily. Longan shifted slightly on the couch, looking slightly shy by that comment. "..thank-you?" They finally said, confused. Popcorn gave a small giggle before going back to being serious..ish.
"in all seriousness though.... How did you come by my beach?? I don't think you could have washed up on there since water makes our dough's soggy, BUUUTTTTT I wouldn't know how else you would get there except maybe falling from the sky!"
Longan went completely silent.
A clock nearby ticked as longan's face went into a look of concentration, as if trying to recall... wait, how DID they even get to the beach..?
Their face morphed slightly, a hint of alarm in it. Popcorn's grin dimmed a little, concern taking back over as Longan seemed to silently panic. oh Witches, why- why couldn't they remember??
All they could seem to remember was their name and a feeling of cold.. cold wet despair...
Longan shivered a little, freezing up a little as they hugged themselves, trying to warm up and forget that cold empty feeling.
"h-hey, hey-!" popcorn went to reach out to Longan but paused a little, remembering earlier. She looked around before spotting the blanket once more, picking it back up and carefully wrapping it around Longan, trying not to accidently touch them. She quickly scooted back and watched as Longan held the blanket tightly around themselves, trying hard to wrack their brain for any memory, but all they could find was... well it was similar to a wall. A tall brick wall that you keep picking at but don't get too far into.
"...I don't remember...." Longan finally whispered quietly. Popcorn's eyes widened slightly. "o-oh."
They went silent once more, the only sound in the room being the nearby clock ticking away and heavy breathing. Popcorn swallowed, opening her mouth to speak once more but her brain came up with blanks, so she shut her mouth once again.
"...so... you don't remember ANYTHING-?" She asked slowly.
"..." Longan slowly shook their head, gripping the blankets tightly. "huh... I just thought that wound on your head gave you a nasty cut, not maybe give you memory loss.."
Longan's head snapped up at that, eyes widening. "A what on my head-?" "Oh you never noticed??" Popcorn whipped out a mirror from nowhere, holding it out to Longan, who gingerly took it and held it up.
They were instantly jumpscared by their own eyes: Black seclera's with golden iris's and a slit down each of them stared back at the cookie, who gave a slight jump. They looked between the mirror and Popcorn, confused and concerned. "How come YOUR eyes don't look like mine or visa versa-??" They asked, panicking slightly. Popcorn gave a small nonchalant shrug. "Dunno! Your not the first cookie I've seen with weird eyes, so I'm not TOO weirded out." She spoke. Longan frowned a little, looking back to the mirror and finally noticing the bandages wrapped securely around their head. Ah. that must be the cloth thing I felt earlier. They thought, gingerly touching the bandages. There was a small spot where jam was seeping through, which was still wet to the touch.
"oouughh, maybe I should change that..." Popcorn got up and rushed out of the room to find more bandages, leaving Longan alone for a few moments. They continued to stare at their own reflection, staring at the bandages and at their eyes. A slight pounding in their chest began to occur, causing them to grip their chest slightly as they shut their eyes, setting the mirror aside. They looked back to all the posters on the walls, studying each cookie. They all had similar eyes to one another... but none of them were slitted like their's.
..what am I...?
