Chapter Text
The Dark Kingdom was well... dark.
Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cass all stood at the end of that narrow bridge.
There, right there lay the moonstone. Rapunzel felt nervous, a slight pit in her gut.
She inhaled softly, turning to Eugene and Cass.
"This is it, now promise me if I fall on that bridge one of you will take the moonstone instead. We can't let it fall into the wrong hands," they both nodded solemnly.
Eugene hugged Rapunzel, planting a kiss on her forehead.
"No matter what, I'm right here okay Sunshine?" Rapunzel nodded.
With a hug to Cass she began her walk to the moonstone.
One foot in front of the other, one two, one two.
Before she knew it she made it to the moonstone.
She closed her eyes, gathering the courage. She reached her hand out, picking it up gingerly.
"Yes! Way to go... blondie?" Eugene took half a step back as Rapunzel's normally blonde hair had electric blue streaks in it now, okay maybe the moonstone just changed her hair like the sundrop.
Cass had looked at her dress. Where there once was a dress was replaced with black armor, in the crevasses of the armor were gold and blue that looked like veins.
There were two stone shaped cavities on either side of her chest plate, one had a golden and beautiful stone, the other an electric blue stone with a slight chip.
"Raps?!" Cass ran towards her despite the narrowness of the bridge, she managed to stay balanced.
"Rapunzel? Do you hear me?" Cassandra shook Rapunzel by her shoulders slightly.
No reaction or recognition in her green eyes.
Rapunzel rose her hand, black spikes slowly advancing towards Cassandra, a twisted smile on Rapunzel's face.
Cass was too struck to back away. She felt a hand on her wrist, pulling her back just before a rock would've reached her.
"I never liked you Cassandra." Rapunzel said.
Cass blinked, regaining her focus. She drew her sword. "Rapunzel! You need to stop! Take a second to think please-"
"That's not Rapunzel," Eugene said, hand on Cassandra's shoulder.
The spikes were advancing towards them, they had no choice but to run and leave Rapunzel behind.
They barely made it out of the Dark Kingdom. When they looked behind them it was overcome with the black rocks.
Cass looked over at Eugene, and was he crying or like tearing up?
No yeah definitely tearing up.
"Uh Eugene it's okay," Cass said awkwardly, patting his shoulder.
"Of course it is I know that what wouldn't be okay it's not like the fricking princess just tried to kill us no that's absurd," Eugene said, voice on the brink of being bitter.
Cass inhaled, trying to calm herself. She sat at the stump of a tree, head in hands.
"Look Eugene I know this is bad but we can't pause everything the kingdom needs to know what happened," Eugene walked over, sitting next to her.
"Yeah you're right," there was a moment of silence, something shared between them kept like a promise.
"I'm sorry for snapping at you," he said quietly.
"It's fine," she replied.
"Well we can't sit around sulking we need to make our way back to Corona," Eugene stood up, grabbing Cassandra's hand and helping her to her feet.
