Summary
Ivy (noun): a climbing plant that attaches itself to stone surfaces and is remarkably difficult to remove once established. See also: Skyes, Ivy. sixth year. Gryffindor. An infestation.
Severus Snape did not ask for a stray. He did not ask for a sixth-year Gryffindor who brewed perfect potions and never raised her hand and sat on dungeon floors beside people who had not invited her there. He certainly did not ask for the quiet, stubborn, inconvenient process by which she took root in every crack he thought he'd sealed.
