Chapter Text
Nope. No. Hell no.
Dazai didn't know why that man thought that would work. Who the hell just…wakes up a kid after he attempted suicide, shoots a man in front of the kid, and then says “Hey I can give you a surefire way to kill yourself if you work for me” NO???? He didn't want to die THAT badly.
So here he was, at age 14, running across the streets of Yokohama like his life depended on it, which, considering how the doctor hadn't hesitated one bit to shoot that frail old man, it probably did.
Wait. Okay so he got away, what was he supposed to do now??? His parents knew the doctor, hence why they sent Dazai to him rather than to a NORMAL hospital (who had mandated reporters, minute one of THEM saw his bruises and his parents were done for.) And even if they didn't send him back, then the doctor might kill them. Or if he didn't, they'd just go back to the way things used to be. So yeah, parents were a No. But then, where-
He bumped into someone head first.
“Oh, sorry-”
Dazai got up quickly, offering a hand to whoever he just ran into. He looked to see it was a girl his age. The girl ignored the hand offered to her and got up herself, eyeing Dazai warily. Seeing as he was a kid like her, she relaxed slightly. Then she noticed the bandages, and some of the bruises that he just couldn't hide.
“Where'd you get those from?”
She asked. Dazai visibly flinched.
“I don't think that's really important-”
“Oh, home life.”
…Was child abuse really that common here?
Seeing how she came off at first, the girl shook her head.
“Sorry, I didn't mean to seem rude, I just had to learn to be wary of everyone, you know? My mom was the same way with me, she used to beat the shit out of me.”
She said bluntly.
“Used to? As in, she stopped?”
“Yep. Well, if I were still living with her she'd probably still be beating my ass, but what can ya do? I'm much safer with my group anyways.”
“Your…Group?”
Dazai tilted his head slightly.
“Yep! I'm part of The Sheep. You heard of them before?”
“I have, actually. They invited me once. Father saw me talking to the boy who invited me and locked me in the attic for a month.”
He responded, feeling oddly comfortable talking about this.
“Well, I can see why we gave you an invitation. Say, you ran away, didn't you? With how fast you were going before running into me, it's obvious you were running from something.”
“...Yes, actually.”
He mumbled.
“Well shit, why don't you come with us for real this time then? Your invitation wouldn't expire or anything.”
She said. Dazai thought about it for a few seconds.
What if the doctor tracked him to here? He probably isn't above hurting kids. But The Sheep are known to be Port Mafia hating, and that old man he shot and said he took the title from kept blabbing about the Port Mafia. AND these kids didn't really have a stable base, they were constantly moving. Besides, maybe sticking with the flock isn't such a bad idea.
“...Okay.”
He said. The girl smiled and grabbed his arm
“Cool! I'm Yuan by the way. I don't use my last name so you can just call me Yuan. What's your name?”
“Dazai. Osamu Dazai.”
“Nice to meet you then, let's go!”
And with that, she led him to a group of teenagers under a bridge.
“Hey, dipshits! New member!”
She pointed to Dazai, who now suddenly felt shy in front of so many kids his age.
“Hey, I remember you!”
One of them called out.
“I tried to recruit you last year and your dad dragged you back into your house and I never saw you again after!”
“Yep. That was me..”
Dazai mumbled.
“Well, glad ya got away, welcome to the Sheep!”
The kid responded. Yuan turned her head elsewhere.
“Hey, Chuuya! We have a new guy, come see!”
She called out. A short, ginger haired boy then walked over.
“New stuff, huh? What's your name then?”
The shorter boy said.
“Dazai. Dazai Osamu.”
He responded.
“Dazai, huh? Name's Chuuya Nakahara.”
Chuuya shook Dazai's hand, but paused after a second, seeming…Confused??
“Why isn't it-”
“Hm?”
A silver haired boy somewhere in the group shouted,
“Chuuya has the ability to manipulate gravity on anything he touches! He always shakes the hand of a new member to make them float for a second!”
“Hey, you snitch-!”
“Oh! Yeah that won't work on me, my ability cancels out all other special abilities when I touch the ability user.”
Dazai explained.
“Oh, so you're an ability user too. Useful.”
Chuuya looked over to Dazai, a small grin on his face.
“Welcome to the Sheep, Dazai.”
“Thanks for the warm welcome, Chuuya.”
