Chapter Text
Did u read the notes? It has details about how the world works so u better have! Thx <3
As a forgotten, inconsequential soul left her world, she did not make it to heaven. Or hell. Or the void. Or whatever you believe in. With a cold, sharp tug on her soul, she was propelled across the multiverse, her essence heaving from the sickening traction despite not even having a stomach. She was hurtled into a universe where people hadn't stayed boring, and gained powers beyond your greatest imagination. Upon entry, she ended up in the family of someone she knew. Someone she had written about and drawn a hundred times. She was in the Bakugo household. Unfortunately, they didn't end up in a happy universe. Her new family was discriminatory to the extreme, and that was proven from her birth.
Our main character was reborn as an Omega male, an “impure body” “corrupted” even more by a cat mutation–a stray fragment from Mitsuki's brother.
The sudden weight of flesh after being mercilessly ripped through the fabric of realities was disorienting, as was normal for those that went through what they did after expecting to just end up floating in a void.
“Congratulations! He's a healthy Omega male. You should be proud. They're a very rare gender to see. What's the little guy's name?”
The doctor was infuriatingly enthusiastic, his loud and energetic voice grating on an exhausted Mitsuki's nerves and startling the battered soul into opening their eyes, which she quickly regretted. The bright, fluorescent lights seared her poor eyeballs, making something long start to lash behind her and two distinct shapes to snap back against her skull.
Wait what? Shifting around to investigate, she found that they had a tail and two cat ears. Starting to chew on her tail, she almost missed the next thing that Mitsuki said.
“Just Kaoru. Basic kanji. I wouldn't want him to struggle to write his own name.”
Yeah, this universe's Mitsuki was crashing out. Of course she had proudly told her friends that she was pregnant, and even asked a friend to get the gender results and make the decorations so that it would be a surprise for her too. Her stupid pride had gotten the better of her, and she knew that all of her friends would ghost her if she abandoned the creature for being a disgusting beast. She would keep the fucker, if only to keep her position as a well-respected member of the community.
“Are you sure? For a child this precious, they should have a special writing, should they not?"
Damn this doctor is persistent. Kaoru was laughing their head off like the sadistic little bitch she was, but only mentally. God knows she didn’t want to draw Mitsuki's ire right now.
“Yes, I'm sure. Can you write it down yet?”
Mitsuki looked like she was gonna crash out on the poor man if he didn't get a move on, her eyes narrowing and promising death to the next person who tried to disobey the tired and disgusted woman.
Apparently, the doctor could sense that too and decided to actually get a survival instinct. He practically bolted over to the computer, the sharp, hurried clacks of the keys cutting through the heavy atmosphere. After he was done, he scrambled out the door, clicking it shut softly, so as to not piss Mitsuki off more.
The resulting silence was quite awkward for the newborn—not that they had ever been good at social things anyways. With Mitsuki completely ignoring their goddamn existence, Kaoru decided that her best option was to just escape the confines of her body, starting to drift and pull up some of the bass and lyrics of their favorite songs in her head.
Oh yeah, did I mention that she dissociates? And that they literally have an entire library’s worth of songs stuck in her head? Combine that playlist with the terrifying amount of My Hero Academia lore she had gained from her past obsession, and you've got yourself more knowledge than should be possible stuck in her tiny brain.
Not that any of it was useful in their past life. It just kinda led to bullying.
She started with one of the songs they connected with the most, and one of her newest, The Tower by NEONI. Just like what the song described, they locked up her emotions and kept up a steady rhythm in life, locking away the hurt from one of her biggest harassers. He was someone she knew well and used to be friends with in 6th grade. He was in practically all of her classes, and would take every chance he had to steal their stuff, hit them, or try to provoke her. She even mentioned him in her journal, a parting gift of sorts, and he would have definitely gotten his future ruined by that. Kaoru wasn't about to apologize.
She also played songs by Citizen Soldier and Raenarde, songs about depression and being a captive in your own body. They connected with all of these songs, and tried to use them to see how there were other people like her, and that she couldn't just give up, as her situation wasn’t as bad as others who kept going. She connected more than ever before with Raenarde, having become not just trapped with their depression, but also now in a frail body that was even more impossible to escape.
Kaoru does realize that there was a reason for the bullying, no matter how stupid it was. They were a weird child. Homoromantic? Check. Asexual? Check. A Demigirl? Check. Depressed? Check. Socially anxious? Check. Kinda addicted to anime? Check. Liking reading? Check. The list could literally go on forever.
She could deal with added problems that came with her body later, but she did actually need to figure out how to freaking survive in this world, and considering how Mitsuki was already treating her? They needed to figure that out fast.
Her tools:
Social anxiety: made her hyper-aware and quiet, which would help her dodge everything
Knowledge: she knows everything about this world
Japanese: despite being American, she did duolingo for Japanese, not sure how much that would help tho…
Her brain: she has knowledge from her past life, like maths etc.
Her memory: the greatest help, it would help her combine what she notices into patterns, instead of just forgetting
She didn’t have much to use, but they could make do. Her social anxiety, once something she despised for making it so hard to talk to others to get the warmth they so deeply desired, acceptance, would be a lifesaver, literally. She wouldn’t put it past Mitsuki to abuse her when she grew up, and the slightest warning could be the difference between hurting for days and a minor scratch. They never thought that learning Japanese on a stupid app would be good for anything besides anime, much less the stupid science and math classes that everyone was forced to take, but they would allow her to concoct something to hide her scent, as well as other protective contingencies. Their memory would allow her to see the patterns in her parents’ behavior, and know when to act.
Best of all, she knew everything that was going to happen in this world, and could plan accordingly. Nothing could ever go wrong, right? They would have to wait for Katsuki to be born to escape, but it would all work out.
