The Jar

Summary:

Pandoras jar, told from the point of view of prometheus

Notes:

this has taken me like a month to write because i couldnt figure out if i wanted it to be a box or a jar. i eventually settled on a jar because i may as well keep it as close to the original as possible

Work Text:

Zeus also wanted to get back at man for accepting my gift of fire. So he had Hephaestus create one thing he knew they couldn’t resist. A woman. Who was given the name Pandora.

The gods showered Pandora with many gifts, such as a silvery gown, a crown of laurels and a decorated jar. They prepared her to leave Olympus and to live among the humans

Once the gods were sure Pandora was fully prepared to live among man they gave her to my brother, Epimetheus, with instructions that under no circumstances was she to open the jar.

Pandora lived with my brother for many years but like most people, she was extremely curious about everything. Especially the jar bestowed upon her by the gods.

It wasn’t long before her curiosity got the better of her and she finally opened the jar one day whilst my brother was away.

Once she unscrewed the lid of the jar, out flew horrors of plagues and sorrow and mischief and grief and death. In terror, Pandora screwed the jar shut but it was already too late for all the horrible things that were trapped inside had already been set loose in the world.

Little did she know that by closing the lid she had trapped mankind’s only salvation- Hope. Who is still fluttering her wings in the jar, begging to be let out.

Pandora was now filled with a tremendous guilt after releasing all those evils into the world, which remained with her until the day she died.

It's important to note, Reader, that despite the evils being released onto the world by Pandora there are still good things. Hope may be trapped in the box but there is still joy and love and light. There may be darkness and death but out there somewhere, hope is still fluttering around and waiting for the day she will be let out. And until that day comes I will be here, watching over my darling creations.
