Chapter Text

It was a month before your boyfriend’s parent’s anniversary party, you’ve been seeing each other for quite some time now, and were getting serious you thought it was time to meet each others family. Only problem was you were a lot younger than him. 15 years younger.

You knew what everyone would think, you were 21 and he was 36. It’s not like you haven’t been getting stared at whenever you guys were out. You learned to ignore it over the years; but meeting each other’s family was a whole different story. You wanted both families to accept you guys.

So here you were with your fiancé Reese Wilkerson sitting at some random coffee shop discussing how to go about this, “I love you, but they’re never gonna accept me.”

“Uhh maybe we can think of something.”

“What could we possibly say to make your parents okay with this, I knew this relationship was a bad idea from the start.”

“What are you saying? You regret getting with me?”

“No that’s not it at all I love you. But face it I’m 16 years older than yo-“

“I thought that didn’t matter!”

“Of course it does, look at how everyone views our relationship.”

“I don’t care what everyone else thinks…” your heart slowly steading its beats, looking at Reese’s face. His eyes sunken in under his their lids, his brows positioned slightly angled. Your hand goes to caress the grey stubble that covered his cheeks, whenever he stressed you could tell it aged him. Not only because he was much older than you, but he always looked defeated after thinking too much.

“Hey…we had this same conversation when we first got together. We figured it out then and we can figure it out again. It doesn’t matter what our families think.”

A bit of silence passed as he looked down to his cheek where your hand still held, you saw the thoughts moving around in his head.

“You know what? Yea you’re right.“

“Exactly all that matters is that I love you.”

We’ll show them we’re the best couple ever! Who knows my brother Francis might do something even worse.”

"Thats the spirit! We should go to my parents first, my mothers been pretty laid back since I started college. Although it will be hard, I mean I never introduced any of my boyfriends to them before, and then just laying it on them that I’m getting married.”

"Yea it would be hard, I mean I've told you all the stories about what my mother did to us, even now she's still on me. With everyone out of the house, it's like I'm her punching bag. Not anymore tho, I’m gonna show them!"

"Ou! Should we tell our families together?”

“Oh no no my mother would freak. We should definitely tell just our parents first. I just know my brother Malcom would try to take all the glory from off of us.”

“Ahh you’re right. I’ve never met him, but he sounds pretty self absorbed.”

“He is, all he ever cared about was being the smartest, and trying to prove he’s better than me.”

“Well that’s old news now, cause when we tell everyone there’s no way they won’t be happy for us.”

“Exactly! Oh I love you so much.”

Talking with him truly brings out the joy in you, Reese has always been charismatic without trying. It’s one of the things you really enjoyed about him. It’s not to say guys your age weren’t nice, but they always wanted one thing. But with Reese he was so mature, and was ready for life to settle down.

When you had first got together he was against it, it's not like he didn't have morals. you figured it wouldn't matter much, your age difference wasn't too bad. You wanted to start your life early, and doing that wasn't gonna be so easy, unless you had someone who was also ready to settle.

Then came Reese, he was charming, a little buggy, but most importantly he was a good person deep down.

When you first met each other in the grocery store, he wanted to make it up to you, all the bruises he caused by his foolishness. He wanted to help you; and you let him. and it's a good thing you did, if not who knows where you would be right now.

you wondered what his family was like, and what lead up to him becoming like this. Why he had almost nothing and how you were somehow in the lead in life compared to him.

Whatever the reason was it didn’t matter now, cause at least you were happy.
