It was the start of the end of the season. Ottawa had come really far into the playoffs, unlike Montreal. Though that way what they deserved after what they had done to Shane.
To celebrate the start of summer the four of them were out. The kids were with Yuna and David. Who weren't aware what was going on between the four of them. They thought it was just a double date. While it actually was just a date.
To everyone else it was a double f´date. The Pikes and the first Hockey husbands.
Shane and Ilya sat in the restaurant booth. That way it was easier for Shane to block the noise. Ilya faced Jackie and Hayden faced Shane. Everyone was happy that way.
They had ordered their drinks. Ilya had told Jackie two times already how beautiful she was. The three pregnancies had caught up on her, which had caused a sudden burst of insecurities. Which she didn't need to have, she was a beautiful women. Ilya was determined to remind her of that as much as he could. He was sure that Hayden was doing the same. Ilya did like the man. He saw the way he loved Shane, and he had always seen how much he loved Jackie, he adored, worshiped that women. Which in Ilya's opinion was the only way to treat that women (and Shane).
Shane was currently looking at Hayden who seemed kinds nervous. Which Shane was unsure how to handle. Jackie was holding Hayden's hand, as a signal that she was there for him and t calm him down. Shane himself was holding Ilya's hand, just because he finally was able to be that affectionate and open with Ilya in public.
There's a comfortable silence between them. They all just enjoyed sitting here together. Their drinks arrived. Shane had his Ginger Ale, Ilya his coke (his medication didn't allow drinking), Hayden had lemonade (he was the driver) and Jackie also had her signature soft drink.
With the drink arriving Hayden became even more nervous. he glanced at Jackie, who smiled at him and gave him a nod. Ilya furrowed his brows. Shane leaned forward like if he was about to ask if everything was okay.
"I have to tell you something." Hayden said.
"Okay," Ilya said leaning back, while Shane moved even more forward.
"I- uhm" Hayden started. But he stopped and blinked unsure.
"Jesus, Hayden tell them." Jackie said with an eye roll.
"Okay, so you know, I'm a free agent now." Hayden started. he was glancing between Shane and Ilya.
"Okay, pike what do you want to tell us?" Ilya asked. Hayden looked at Ilya.
"Montreal was shit his year. It really sucked. They- They gave me shit for sticking with Shane. I also want to leave them." He said, he ignored the soft "Hayd." Shane whispers. But he took Shane's hand and ran his thumb over t to offer some comfort.
Ilya just felt his anger for Montreal. He liked Pike, he was important to Shane and that made Ilya care for him.
"Where will you go?" Shane asked. Ilya glanced between Hayden and Jackie. Hayden was nervous, but Jackie was smiling. Ilya knew that some of their older players retired this season, some were traded (Though Ilya was happy to keep his friends), and Hayden was a free agent. Ilya smiled, when Hayden looked at Shane again.
"It is not finalized, but I would join you guys."
"We are planning the moving. Maybe a house near your guys house? Only the twins are really settled friend wise but… they noticed tat Hayden was not doing well." Jackie says.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Shane asked. His voice sounded a little hurt.
"You never said anything. I knew you were stressed getting used to it all here and I didn't want to put more on your plate." Hayden admitted.
"i guess that's fair. We should stop that, be more honest about our feelings Shane said. Ilya squeezed Shane's hand at that. Hayden smiled, with a nod they all agreed on this.
The mood was a bit down now. The waiter though seemed to guess the mode and came taking in their food wishes.
"That means we can see each other always and hang more put. Maybe even some sleep overs with or without the kids. Could be nice." Ilya offers to lighten the mood.
"Yes, that's right. I really hope we get something close to you guys." Jackie joins in.
"I can help you with that." Shane beams up.
"Oh, my Mr. Landlord, Mr. Businesses man." Ilya teases, before he kisses Ilya's cheek.
"Shut up." Shane laughed and pushed Ilya off.
The conversation split now. Shane asked Hayden about the housing. What they wanted and how they could help. Ilya told Jackie that he could get her into the Wag's chat. he recalled all the things his teammates had mentioned about child care, doctors and other things. He told her about the BBQ's and other things he knew the Wag's did. Jackie listened to it with a smile.
When the food came they started to talk about the summer. Ignoring that tomorrow they would all drive to the cottage. Shane has a list on his phone now. Ilya knew it was a list for what Hayden and Jackie wanted for their house and that he would start to research the moment he got time and a laptop. Hayden was now relaxed. Ilya could see it. It might also helped that Jackie pressed a kiss on Hayden's cheek. Which she did multiple times, cause he was cute. Jackie seemed really happy too. Ilya saw it in the heart eyes she gave Hayden and Ilya.
Ilya was happy too. Jackie and the kids would be around more. Shane would be happy to have Hayden around. he would fit in the team, Ilya has to admit that.
Once dinner was over and they were on the drive home, they cuddled. Hayden was driving. Shane held his hand, and exchanged looks with him. In the back, Jackie was pressed against Ilya's side. Ilya pressed kisses on her head multiple times and played with her hair. Jackie just leaned against him.
At their house they went to bed. Ilya gave Shane and Jackie good night kisses. Normally they would spend the nights with their assigned couples. Tonight though, Shane seemed to want them all.
"can we share the bed?" he asked with big brown puppy eyes.
"Oh, Shaneya, yes, yes" Ilya said and kissed him.
"Sure, cuddles are good." Hayden said.
That's how they ended up all together in bed. Ilya had Shane pressed against him. Shane held Hayden's hand. Jackie and Shane laid beside each other, two friends snuggling. Jackie was held by Hayden but also held one of Ilya's hands.
They were comfortable. This felt good.
A future awaited them were they could have more of it.
The end
