I'm a Boy, Not a Bird

Summary:

Inspired by Justice League vs. Teen Titains, but from Damian's perspective, but also what if his early exposure to the lazarus pits gave him healing powers I may or may not bother to explain, but also what if Bruce and everyone else doesn't know about those powers bc they need to so that Damian has an even worse time. Me and all otherlike 5 Damian Wayne fans love it when my poor baby boy suffers to the point and grown man would lose his mind (I swear I want him to be happy, he just has to work for it for the sake of the plot) <3

Notes:

Blah blah blah, mommy issues AND daddy issues AND brother issues AND trust issues AND- okay I'll stop now but just know I could keep going.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: A Warm Welcome

Chapter Text

“Try not to behead anyone.”
He quipped, getting out of the Batmobile. I followed suit.
As soon as we got out Starfire greeted Dick, I grabbed my bag from the back, tuning out from the pair’s obviously flirtatious interaction.

First those newspaper covers, now this. Seems like my brother plans on taking the Bruce Wayne billionaire playboy mantle more than the Batman one.
Better for me I suppose, less competition.

Others filed out of the Titans base of operations. They say an engineer gets their wings every time Dick begs father into building a structurally unsound T-shaped building.

I recognized them all easily, if there is one thing I’ve learned from staying with the Bats it’s to do my homework. They have powers, we don’t, taking prep time for granted is the biggest blunder you could ever make. Even Jason recognized that despite his stance on most of their other methods.

Beast Boy, Blue Beetle, and …Raven, I made a mental note to do some more ‘homework’. I knew of her but doubted father had built a good profile on her yet on our databases. I screened all of them during my first month in the manor after all.

“This is Damian, the new Robin.”
Dick gestured to me, introducing me to whom I personally considered my new cellmates. I guess we aren’t hiding identities then.

“Welcome Damian.”
Starfire greeted. I was aware she was from another planet and therefore likely had less of a grip on human customs, but she had still been here long enough to pick up on how humans register talking to them like they’re five. I found how she crouched down to my height demeaning. I’ve heard it’s advice to make a child feel like an equal when speaking to you, I find it only serves to signify how below them they find you.

The others stared at me expectantly. The idea I had to act graceful about moving here against my will as if it were some joyous experience I should be thankful for was not one I planned on entertaining.

“I’ll be in my room.”
I said, keeping my tone as neutral as possible. I was not looking for any friends but there’s no use in making enemies out of father’s allies.

“Would you like a-”
Is she overly polite or just trying to patronize me? I would assume father would’ve given her a debrief of my history in the league, so why would she assume I cannot analyze a building’s layout on my own? Unless she didn’t read it, or maybe father didn’t discuss the details out of courtesy. No, that’s unlike father. Regardless I responded without a beat as always.

“I think I can manage.”
A little snippy but good enough.

I headed downstairs to their training simulator after a small self-guided tour, and dropped my bag on the bed of the room that was labeled Damian in one too many frilly calligraphy swipes for my liking.
