After the worms, the tunnels and everything else, Tim and Martin don't really have anyone else to cling to if not each other, and oh they cling so desperately to the only other person who hasn't left, or has not fucked up completely.
It brings out the best and the worst of them, all at once, and it makes for confusing and conflicting feelings, that they can't escape from, not even in the middle of a hook up.

“Why shouldn’t you- we- do this?” Martin retorted, squeezing Tim’s hips.
“Because it’s just a game, and it’s going to hurt us” Tim was so close, Martin could feel his breath on his lips, and not closing the distance was starting to drive him a bit insane. But he also knew how to wait, if he had to.“It’s not a game for me” admitted Martin, not having anything else to say. For once, he was honest. Not shy, not a liar or anything else he could be. Just, honest.
