Work Text:
You sat back on your heels, heart in a million pieces. He was gone, killed by his best friend, because he’d gone down a path that none of you could follow. Above you, Gojo stared at Suguru’s corpse with a look on his face that warned that he may vomit. Over and over, your brain played those last words he said to you.
“I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Eventually, you made your mouth croak out, “Those weren’t my words.”
It took the man a long time to react, and even then, it was just a, “Huh?”
“Satoru, those weren’t my words.” Panic rose with bile in your throat.
Both you and Suguru were so sure you were each other’s perfect match, meant for the other in every way right down to the words scribbled on your sides. His read, “I love you, you know that?” to your, “I always knew it was you.” At least, you were sure before he left the school on his misguided revenge quest and became someone you no longer recognized.
Ethereal blue eyes met yours. “They were mine.”
